Last night on my way home from work around midnight I saw the car in front of me swerve, then speed off. So I slam on my breaks and there is a cat in the road. I stop my car, put on the hazards (this is a very busy road) and assume the worst. He was all rolled up in a ball, looking up at me shaking like a leaf. There are no homes nearby, but there is an animal shelter, like 1/4 mile away. The cars were whizzing by in the fast lane, but luckily there wasnt a lot of traffic. So of course I scooped him up and put him in the car. He does not appear hurt, just terrified. So I took him home, set him up on the porch with some food, water & litter. He is really dirty, and was starving, but was really shaking a lot. I didnt sleep at all, worried he was hurt, got up at 6am and he is purring away sleeping, came right over for a pat. He definately came from a home, he really is so friendly.
Anyway, I cannot keep him. I have two cats of my own. I am afraid to let them mingle cuz the new cat is so dirty and definately has ear mites. I called the shelter next to where I found him, they told me I need to speak with a certain lady who was scheduled to be at work at 1. It is 340 right now, she hasnt showed up yet. They suspect someone dumped him out front to abandon him.
I am supposed to be going away tomorrow, and I dont know what to do with this cat!!!! I put an add on Craigslist, what else can I do to locate this cats family? Or find him a new one? He cant stay on my porch and I cant afford more vet bills, still paying off the one for my two kitties. (who by the way have beens staring through the window at the new cat for the last 12 hours)
