Yesterday, January 15, was the day in 1996 that the Disney Vacation Club became Old Key West.

Tomorrow marks the anniversary of the opening day ceremony for Disney's Vero Beach Resort that same year.

Thought you "oldtimers" would enjoy a little DVC trivia. :thumbsup2

Why thank you, I was wondering when DVC resort became OKW. I know it was "odd" to have the resort re-named, and it took a while to get used to calling it OKW.

And we were actually THERE on that day!!! It was weird to see the sign getting changed. It was our trip just prior to buying in, and we were staying at OKW to try it out.

we arrived the next month.

the cm's say it was really funny because the guests weren't told before hand.

so those who left that morning on a bus marked DVC - didn't now to come back on one saying OKW.....

plus the new guests coming looking for DVC and not understanding that OKW was DVC.

she say they never had that many calls.

of course to those guests I am sure it wasn't funny.

We were in WDW Sept '96 right after BWV opened. Did they change the name to OKW because they were going to start selling points at Boardwalk, or were they already selling BWV points?
Just curious...?

BTW, what are the anniversary dates for each resort?

Thanks!

OK, someone has to say what Richyams would have said-"Old Key West still IS Disney Vacation Club", the others are just "wanna-be"s". Only kidding, but with thinking of him the last few days, I couldn't let this go by.

They changed the name in anticipation of BWV opening to remove potential confusion. When the change occured sales were already underway at VB and HH and VB was aleady open.

I don't recall the exact dates when each resort opened, but:

OKW - 10/1/1991 (Opened as the Disney Vacation Club Resort - operating name in the documents was Lake Buena Vista Resort)

VB - 7/1/1995

HH - 3/1/1996

BWV - 7/1/1996

VWL - 11/1/2000

BCV - 7/1/2002

SSR - 5/1/2004

AKV - ?/?/2007 (Stay Tuned! ;) )
