A little disappointed, GF because Polynesian was sold out

I was a huge fan of Poly with little desire to stay after GF. After 40+ trips to WDW including 5 stays at Poly I finally stayed at GF while attended a seminar. A coworker friend also attended same event. We both loved the resort. I liked the quick service better at GF. While Trader Sam's was a lot of fun I preferred quiet atmosphere of GF bar.

I'm sure you'll have a great trip!

You will love the GF! It is an amazing resort that is just as nice (though differently themed) as the Poly, IMO. We have stayed at both many times and we just can't choose a fav between them. The Poly has a romantic, tropical island vibe, whereas the romantic, turn of the 20th century decor of the GF is elegant and beautiful. Both resorts have many amenities and have large rooms with comfortable beds. You can keep checking to see if anything at the Poly shows up, but I wouldn't be disappointed to have a girls trip at Christmastime at the GF!!!

Enjoy!

I just stayed at the GF for a conference, I thought it would be stuffy. It was very beautiful and not stuffy at all.

I got a massage, it was wonderful. The Spa is gorgeous, a great treat for a ladies trip!

Stop by Mizner's lounge and enjoy the band, a drink or two and the apps from Citricos.

You are going during the holidays, so let’s start w/ decorations, the Poly has a decorated tree and other decorations best described as underwhelming. The GF has a multistory Christmas tree and a life size gingerbread house in the lobby and the grounds are decorated in what I’d call an understated elegance. GF in Dec. is far better.
What about the lobbies? Poly’s lobby feels cramped and crowded, crowds mill around waiting for the Luau show, Ohana, etc. & there is no entertainment. The GF’s restaurants are set back from the lobby with separate waiting areas thus the GF lobby doesn’t suffer from the chaos which is the Poly lobby. Certainly there are visitors @ the GF to admire the holiday decor & gingerbread house, but you can generally find a seat in the lobby to listen to the grand piano player or the band on the balcony upstairs.
Want to sit on your balcony and enjoy a drink and catch up chat w/ your friend? @ the GF you’ll have a balcony, at the Poly, maybe you will or maybe you’ll get one of those rooms w/out one.
The Poly has a more in your face frenetic atmosphere - which is fun, the GF has a quieter elegance that sort of creeps up on you and suddenly you think - ah, this is nice, really nice.
The TTC is walkable from the Poly, if you want to go to Epcot from the GF you’ll have to take the monorail to the TTC to transfer to the Epcot monorail.
I personally far prefer the GF, plus it’s pretty simple to monorail, walk or boat between the resorts.

My friend and I had a girls trip and worked with an agent. We put in our requests but in a matter of a day, they didn't have the Polynesian anymore which we had both had our heart set on! We are going the first week of December and now we are booked for Grand Floridian. It's just the two of us (college friends)! I'm traveling without my kids and husband, so doing more of an adult trip. I keep telling myself it will be better to come back and do Polynesian with my baby and toddler sons. Anyone have any good things to say about Grand Floridian?

*Would you keep trying for a transfer at the Poly? We prob won't use the pools much! maybe the hot tub?
You could try Four Seasons Hotel, Yacht Club (never been) and when i ate Jiko Animal Kingdom Lodge looked nice ! And Grand Floridian has the only AAA Five Diamond and AAA Forbes Five Star venture of any kind in Central Florida. It looked quite nice the hotel when I ate at the grand.

We LOVE the GF and stayed there every year (until we bought VGF). We tried the Poly last year as a last minute trip and really didn’t care for it.

I've never been particularly attracted to the Poly so I have to say that I am a bit biased. My favourite is the BWI followed by BC. I didn't really want to stay at the GF because it seemed kind of stuffy to me but DH wanted to. We've stayed there a few times now. It's my third favourite now after the BC (although the top three are actually really close - I'm happy to stay at any). It's not at all stuffy, it's very quiet and really lovely especially near Christmas when we usually go. We like to stay in a lagoon view outer building.
