Hi all! I'm at DCA as I am writing this staring at California Screamin. I have read probably everything there is to read on this ride. Some say it's ok and mild, some say it scared them. My problem: DD9 begs me to go on it. I am terrified of the drops and actually she is too. Never been on any coaster w drops so big. I am ok w Splash and Space, but to me they are completely different rides. Are the drops as bad as they look? Stomach dropping feeling intense? Please help a chicken out!

There really aren't any major drops on this ride. It has a great take off - like you're in your uncle's 1970 Super Sport, but better. There are dips and small drops, but nothing like you'd find at a Six Flags. There's is NOTHING scary about this ride. Just pure fun.

Agreed. Its a great ride. Nice smooth, fast, fun!

For a roller coaster, it is pretty tame. My wife hates coasters and she does fine on Screamin.

Ugh, I hear you on being terrified. We're going on our trip the end of this month, and my SO absolutely wants me to ride on this with him. I told him a flat out no. But there's a tiny part of me that wants to surprise him. It's just...the loop. Everyone says if you close your eyes you can't even feel it, but I've been on upside down rides before and I HATE them. I don't get even the slightest thrill at all, I just feel sick and like I'm going to cry cause I'm so afraid. Plus this ride is insanely high which only adds to the terror (I won't even go on the ferris wheel anymore because it's so tall).

What you feel on the ride depends somewhat on where you sit. In the front you start down some of the drops before the car speeds up, whereas in the back you are pulled over the hill by the weight of the car. It's not a huge difference that most people would notice until they've ridden a few times, but you could always ask to sit in the front. I feel the stomach dropping sensation more on the bunny hills than any other part of the ride.

I hope you did it! If you can do Splash, you can totally do Screamin, especially if your fear is about the drops! I cannot handle Splash or TOT, because of the drops, but I love Screamin. I totally get it, though. I'm afraid for the day my kids want to drag me on rides I don't like! They're only 4 and 5 months, though, so I have time!

I totally agree that if you can do Splash you can handle it. I think the drop in splash is bigger than any of the Screamin drops. If you do go on it make sure to keep your head against the headrest. I somehow missed those warnings and ended up with a headache. Have fun!

THe first time I did it.. I took my glasses off and closed my eyes... you could feel the rush and movement, but nothing overwhelming.. its a very smooth ride... I hated Goofies school of flight.. ugh dont get me started on that..

The second time I went on screaming .. I wore my glasses, but forgot the sport band. so had to hold them onto my face... I didnt feel good after the ride..
now there were a few factors.. 1- i hadnt eaten, 2- I had trouble holding one to the ride and my glasses, and 3 - I wasnt feeling to well to start with..

I think the thing I didnt like the most was the physical feeling from holding my hands up for that lenght of time with the intensity that I held them.. it made me sore and week getting off the ride, I also have a couple of medical conditions that turns out dont like rides like that..
Anyway... all that to tell you.. give it a try . It is a smooth ride that is very fast, and it can be fun...

I am not a fan of roller coasters, but I promised my daughter I'd try it. Rode it with my eyes closed and it was ok. The best part was listening to how the music matched what the coaster was doing.

Ride in the very front. You can see everything ahead of you so there is no surprise drops, turns, etc. My son who hates roller coasters actually LOVED it. It was his favorite ride.

Let us know if you did it. I'm really not crazy about this ride because I'm afraid of heights, but it really is a super smoth coaster and a lot of fun. I would rather do coasters in the dark, which is why I like Space Mtn & Rock & Roller Coaster. But it is a fun ride. Hope to hear if you did it and what you think. It's alway worth trying something once, or you will never know if you would have loved it!!

LOL. Thank you all for the encouragement. Disappointed to say this but I still haven't tried it. Went on Splash 4 times to work up the nerve, then saw a big line at Screamin and said, "Maybe tomorrow". You all are defenitely building up my nerve to go! Thanks! Will post if I do go! Thank you all!

I have a lack of depth perception combined with severe motion sickness. I avoided this ride through 5 trips to DL, until Nov/13 when I finally got the courage to try it. It scared me silly, but I wanted to go right back on it afterwards. I'm scared, let's go again! So if a reformed ride chicken can do it, you can too! While it's scary, the ride itself is very smooth. I'd advise to go when the lineups are short as to not stress yourself out too much before going on the ride.

:cool1: yay! Finally went on it today! We spent about 10 min staring at it and a CM was nice enough to give us a whole day fast pass. He said when I got the courage to go on, we could come back anytime that day and the all day fast pass would be valid. Such a sweet CM! So I just jumped on figuring even if I hated it it would last only a couple minutes. Everything you all said about the ride is true! Drops do not feel as bad as they look. Splash is actually scarier to me. Loop is fine. I'm soooo glad my DD9 had the chance to go on it w/o chicken-mom ruining it for her! Thanks to all of you who encouraged me! You made our vacation great! Thanks to all! FYI ended up riding it 13 times as the morning waits were only 5-10 min!

:cool1: So glad you were able to get the courage to go on, and that you enjoyed it.

Good for you! I hate Screamin', but sometimes you want to make sacrifices for your family, especially your children! My brother insisted I go on Screamin' and my shoe was coming off my foot the whole time and I hated every min of it. :scared1:
