A little confused about Room Only discounts

I am going late August and we are looking for a discount so were going to book with AAA, but that says room only. Does that mean because I am not booking a room with our tickets, which would be a package, I cannot get the dining plan? Can I book the package with the dining plan and use the AAA and if a code comes along through disney can I switch to that if it is worth it?

If you want the dining plan then Yes you have to book a package. Unless Disney offers some type of special package that discounts parts of it, then I do not think you can apply a AAA or AP discount to the room only part of a package.

The restrictions and cancellations on packages is very different from room only so be sure to ask about that.

Sounds like the AAA discount applies to "room-only" reservations, as opposed to a package. We made our room-only reservations last night and used the AAA discount. Saved us about 15%.

And you can always change the discount code on your "room-only" reservation. In May 2004, we booked our room under the AAA code initially, but then changed to the AP codes as they became available.

As Sammie and Johnvree have stated, if you want dinning with AAA you must book "the package" through AAA. If you only want the room discount, you can book it yourself and simply tell them you're a AAA member, bringing your card with you when you check in. The "package" portion of AAA isn't discounted (the tickets and meal plan) but obviously the room is. People have been expecting to get 15% off their entire bill and have been a bit puzzled at the math :confused3 PLEASE NOTE: If you book a package through AAA only the AAA agent can change it if a code comes out. Once a vacation is booked through a travel agent, only they can make changes -- not you. If you call in, they (Disney) can't help you...

I've booked a package including the dining plan through AAA, but I was not able to do it on the website, I had to call to book it. As stated before, the room rate is still discounted even though the dining and tickets aren't.

Sorry for the lame question(s). I don't know what the different codes are or how you can use them so I'm trying to catchup by reading posts.

thanks for any help.

Thank you everyone! So if I book my package with AAA and let's say a great Disney code comes out in June can AAA use that code and get me those discounts through disney?

An AP code is a discount that is available to people who purchase and Annual Pass or AP. Disney offers discounts to people who purchase these kinds of tickets. It is at times worth it to buy an annual pass if you plan on making multiple trips to disney within a year, or plan on one trip of about 8 days or more. The discounts on rooms that they offer can save lots of money, but there is no guarantee that a discount will be offered for any particular time.
The other discount that is generally offered is to AAA members. These discounts are not usually as large as the AP discount, but they generally are available at all times.

This depends on the type of code (discount) that comes out. Last year when Disney had their free dining promotion, you could not get any discount on the room portion through AAA. So if you had a AAA package with room discount and applied the free dining, you lost your room discount.

Okay I got it now. Thank you so much. I have no problem losing one discount as long as the new one is a better discount. I just don't want to be locked into the AAA discount on the room and then have them come out with something like free dining again and not being able to get it. I'm hoping for something better to come out within the next few months that is better than AAA room discount especially because of all the discounts they had last year. I had a PAP last year so I couldn't get all the awesome discounts (although the AP room discounts aren't too shabby)
