A Little Advise Needed

I’m all out of ideas so I thought I’d ask for advise here. First, a little background. We are having a WDW wedding but because our ceremony cannot take place until 10pm, we are having a pre-ceremony dinner. We will then have a short reception (basically an extended cocktail hour) after the ceremony. (Very odd I know.) Anyway, I decided not to wear my gown to the dinner and have found a simple informal wedding dress that still makes me look somewhat like a bride to wear to the dinner. We plan on getting ready prior to the dinner so that we will only have to change clothes between the dinner and the ceremony. Oh yea we plan on taking our formal photos before the dinner. So I’ll get ready, put on my bridal dress, take photos, change into dinner dress, dinner, change into bridal dress, ceremony.

First Question: I’m terribly in need hairstyle ideas that will work with our scenario. My plan is to wear a veil and tiara during the ceremony, but I would prefer to just wear my hair during the dinner. Given that we have a limited amount of time to change, do any of you have any hairstyle suggestions that would make it easy to slap on a tiara and veil but still look appropriate with my informal dinner dress?

Second Question: I’m perhaps a worrier and I’m having trouble with Disney’s preferred timeline. I’m attempting to get a rough estimate of the timeline of our day. (Plus if we aren’t right we might have to move our dinner location since it isn’t available until 7pm.) Here’s what I’ve come up with. We are staying at the Wilderness Lodge and we have allowed 20 minutes to get from the AK(dinner location) and 10 minutes to get to our ceremony. Anybody see any major problems?

2:30pm - Girls start getting ready
3:30pm - Boys state getting ready
4:30pm - Photos begin
6:30pm - Bridal Party returns to Resorts to change
7:00pm - Everyone arrives at Dinner Location
9:00pm - Bridal Party departs for Resorts to change
9:30pm - Guests depart Dinner Location for Ceremony Location
10:00pm - Bridal Party arrives at Ceremony Location
10:00pm - Guest arrive and enter Ceremony Location
10:30pm - Ceremony begins

Thanks SO Much!
Sarah

How about curling your hair a bit and just keeping it down? I am thinking a Jessica Simpson kinda do.

Just wondering where you are having your ceremony since it is so late at night? Could we have a few details?

Yes I think we need a few more details to tell you if your time line will work. Then we will know if your times will work. They are sounding a little close to me.

Hey Sarah -

I think that a nice half-up half down curly do would look fantastic. That way, after dinner you would be able to just put your tiara right on and off you go. The times do seem pretty close together, but im sure you will be able to pull it off! All of the locations sound fairly close together so Im pretty sure the timing is fine!

I hope that helps!
Jessica :thumbsup2

Cassie - Thanks for the suggestion. I’m certainly gonna try that when we go for the trial, but I’m worried that my hair is too fine for the veil and tiara to hold if my hair is entirely down. I think that is actually what I would prefer. I just don’t want the dang veil falling off during my walk down the aisle. I’ve never had my hair fixed and plastered to my head like they do for weddings so perhaps they have some short of solution that will allow me to keep my hair down.

Jessica - Thanks for the suggestion. I think that is probably what I will end up doing baring some hairdresser miracle. My only concern was that if you put half of my hair up, I fear there won’t be much left!

Our dinner will be at the AK, we are staying at the WL, and our ceremony is at the MK. I’ve built in 20 minutes to get from AK to WL and then 10 minutes to get from WL to MK. That leaves me 30 minutes before the guests start to enter the ceremony and 30 additional minutes before the ceremony actually begins. I realize that it is tight, but considering all I plan on doing is changing into my dress, I’m hoping it may be enough.

sessoms_sc Welcome to the boards congrats on your upcoming wedding. I see its at the kingdom thats so awesome and magical CONGRATS

Sarah -
Im sure that the hair dresser you go to will be able to work something out with your hair....Ive seen some really nice half-up half-down styles with ladies who have "shorter hair" (im not sure exactly how short your hair is though!) Good Luck deciding, and doing the trial sounds like a great idea! :goodvibes

My friend did a half up/half down for her wedding and had the tiara in the front and the veil attached at the back. I know what you mean about fine hair, mine is horrible and that's why I wear it so short. My hairdresser used almost an entire can of hairspray to keept it set on our wedding day - it was like glue! I agree with Rustyflwr3 your trial hairdresser will have ideas, that's what they do, so see what she says. Are you going to have your hairdresser help you between the dinner and the ceremony, to get the veil set?

You will love the WL! Of course, I am a little biased ;)

Have you discussed your timing, in regard to travel times, with your EM? I just worry that you're cutting it a little close from AK to WL and WL to MK. I assume you'll have a limo but delays can occur and if dinner runs long it could be pushing it. It will not take you that long to change into your gown unless you have some elaborate undergarments or fancy lacing or something. I got in mine in less than 10 minutes, of course then I had to touch up my make-up, last look at my hair, get my shoes on (that was hard! Thank goodness for my MOH!), gather up my hankie, bridal purse, etc. You don't want to be rushed or stressed right before your ceremony - easier said than done!! Just make sure you give yourself plenty of time - better to have an extra 10 minutes of extra time to wait than to be rushing 20 minutes late.

Best Wishes on your upcoming wedding!!

Oops, sorry I'm not real clear sometimes. My hair goes a little pasts the top of my shoulders, so its not the length of my hair that bothers me. It's just really fine. Although I guess the hairdresser can just coat my hair with hairspray, etc. and it will be fine. Again thanks for the suggestion.

You must have posted while I was responding! Anyway, I agree the WL is the best. I'm sure we will enjoy it. I really want photos there too! Yours is beautiful. I'm relieved to know that hairdressers can work magic with fine hair. So I just have to see what she can do when I go for the trial. I wasn't planning on having the hair dresser stick around for putting on the veil because my future MIL is a hairdresser so I assumed that she and my mother could handle that. (Perhaps not, so I will ask at the trial.)

As far as the time issue, no one seems to figure out that the time line effects the dinner location, so they just say that we can figure that out later. I know I'm still six months out, but I'm a worrier. I'm not worried about dinner running late, we are having a buffet at AK with some sort of entertainment afterwards. It starts at 7pm and buffet dinners are 1.5 hours, so I'm assuming dinner will be done by 8:30. I'm confident that I can leave at 9. (I'll go hungry if need be. :) )

I timed the trip from AK to WL last time we were there and it was about 15min. I put 20min in my timeline to give me a little extra and to allow me to get to my room. I then gave myself 30 min in the room, 10min to get to the ceremony, and another 30 min for last minute primping before the ceremony. From your experiance where should I try to add more time. (Or should I just get ready in the limo? :rotfl2: )

Yes hairspray is the best :thumbsup2 For our wedding my hair was just above my shoulders and it is fine and curly - the worst combination as my hairdresser says - and now I've cut it back to super short (it's probably a couple inches long at the longest part) which I love, love, love!

Well, if you've timed from AK to WL I think you'll be fine. There really isn't anywhere to shave time. From my personal experience, getting in the dress did not take long at all (so no need for limo dressing although that would be a funny story for the future grandkids :rotfl2: ) but I didn't have a "complicated" dress with layers of crinolines or lacing or anything like that so it was just step in, pull on, snap, button, and zip. I did not wear a veil. I have a small head to go along with the fine hair and none of the veils I tried did not swallow me up in tulle! I think your mom and MIL can get the veil on you, lots of hairdressers leave it off until right before the ceremony and one of the attendants learns how to put it in so I wouldn't worry about that too much. The shoes were a hassle just because I couldn't really bend over (they had a small buckle strap) but my MOH did them for me so that was fine. I had to help MOH with her earrings, get my lipstick on, photo finish powder on my face, etc. Just last minute things tried to stress me out, but everyone said I was amazingly calm.

Are you having a rehearsal? That will help you to figure out timing too and probably relax you. May I ask, are you having Cindy's coach? I have a friend of a friend who was married in MK about 5 years ago and she had the coach and it was spectacular! I wanted that initially but I wanted the WL location more than the coach and they only have the coach at certain locations, so I don't regret not having it, but I think it is so special!

Disney will not let you down, they are extremely well coordinated and they will have you where you need to be on time. I'm sure your EM will keep your day running smoothly! Our wedding was completely perfect and I know yours will be too :goodvibes
