My sweet DIL and grandsons were over having dinner with us while our son attended a dinner meeting. She got a call from her mother to let her know her 16 year old nephew had been rushed to the hospital in Memphis.
He pitches for his high school baseball team and was injured at practice. As he pitched batting practice a batter hit a line drive straight back to the mound. The ball hit Adam in his eye. At the first hospital they found three blow out fractures of the eye socket and sinuses. They are not as concerned about the fractures as they are sight and movement of the eye. He has been transferred to Children's Hospital in Memphis.
DIL and her mother will drive up early tomorrow and we will keep the little boys.
Please say a prayer for him.

Definetly in my thoughts tonight.

The family will definitely be in our thoughts and prayers. Keep us posted on his results. My oldest son was hurt in a soccer accident in high school. A kick to the stomach busted several internal organs, and by the time he gave up and admitted how bad he hurt and went to the school trainer, he was in serious condition. The trainer sent him straight to the emergency room and he went to emergency surgery. They said he was within two hours of collapsing and dying because of all the poisons in his system. Since he was a "star" athlete, it made the front page of the Nashville paper, but he doesn't much enjoy looking back at his fame. He's as "healthy as a horse" now, though, and if he can come back from that injury, I have all faith in the world that your family member will recover, too. We'll keep the family in mind as they have to watch him hurt and help him heal, and we'll keep him in mind to keep his spirits up, because teenage boys don't like to be down! We'll also keep you in mind as you take care of your grandsons. Let us know how things progress, and we will ask God to hold all of you especially close during this time. We would be glad to send a card, if you are comfortable with posting an address. If not, just let him know many people are thinking of him and are praying for him to be up and running soon.

It could take a while - my Dh was hit in the eye with a racquetball (no, he wasn't wearing protective goggles). It was touch and go for a few weeks waiting to see if he would recover - the muscles that controlled his pupil opening and closing were damaged. It took a few weeks of putting drops in his eye before there was improvement. He is almost 100% in that eye now, and to look at him you can't tell there was an injury. He just needs a slight prescription for distance.

Please keep us posted - I'm not trying to scare you; just to let you know it could be a little while before it completely heals. :grouphug: :grouphug:

Thanks for all the prayers and good wishes.
During the night all the specialists meet and decided to delay surgery, his eye and face are so swollen. The good news is that they detected some eye movement and reaction to light so we are praying there will not be a loss of vision. They will definitely have to go in and put in a plate because three bones are blown out.
Memom and imsorry, I'm happy to know your sons both recovered well. Our children will never know until they have some of their own just how badly they scare us. Memom, I don't have an address right now but I will pass on your well wishes and try to get one later.
Thanks again and I will post when there is an update.

Glad to read there is some signs of movement. Hope all continues to go well.
Best wishes to you and your family.

I hope everything turns out OK!! I was in the hospital several years ago and my 'roommate' had a similar injury from soft ball. She had several fractures and other injuries and needed surgery. It seemed awful! I am glad to hear that there has been eye movement detected. I'm sure everything will turn out fine in the end.

Prayers said... I do hope everything turns out okay and he has no lasting effects from the accident

Very encouraging that there is movement and reaction to light; my DH had no pupil movement when light was shone in his eyes for a few weeks; it was very frightening.

Keeping your DIL's nephew in my thoughts and prayers.

I took my DS to baseball pitching "camp" once. I found a young man to catch for him ad was standing against the wall watching. Well once I tought the ball was in the catchers mit and took my eye off it for a moment. Turned out it wasn't in the mitt it was just glancing off it and smacked me square in the eye!! According to DS I said a couple choice words. However "there is no crying in baseball!" so I didn't and I was the ONLY female in the room so I ahd to be strong. Since they didn't have a first aid kit available they grabbed snow from outside, made a ball, found what I think was the grossest gym rag ever:crazy2: , and put in on my eye! Ok I know that hurt for days. I can't imagine what a line drive would be like!! :scared: I was told to never get hit in the eye again if at all possible. I was really blessed that nothing was broke or damaged. I pray it works out ok for him too!
