A Letter To A Friend (5) 19th July 2006
Dear friends,
Can you remember me saying about American eggs tasting strange the other day? I thought they tasted peculiar in the Ponderosa and mistakenly thought that was what all eggs tasted like over there.
Well today we went up market and ate in the hotels restaurant for breakfast a whole $12 each. What a difference in the food quality. The eggs actually tasted like eggs, praise be! Plus the sausages were sausages like we get back home according to the men. The whole buffet breakfast was delicious, not that I ate the lot of course. I was just stunned by the eggs.
Magic Kingdom was our destination today. Starting in Frontierland we went on Splash/Rocky Railroad/Splash, walked over to Tomorrowland and rode Stitch/Tomorrow Transit/Stitch and Space Mountain.
Stitch is Garys favourite ride, we think it is funny watching all the first timers trying to pull the shoulder harness down and panicking when they dont stay down.
Usually on Space Mountain I sit in front but this time Craig did. He found it very jerky. Ian didnt fancy the front at all. Even though we told him you could see where you were going better.
After this quick walk round Magic it was time for some quiet time so we headed to Tom Sawyers Island. A good thing about the island is it is never crowded. We stopped off at Aunt Pollys for some satisfactual apple pie. Yum, yummy! As we left I spotted a huge caterpillar, on a tree, last year Craig had spotted a huge spider in the fort. This year I was on red alert for any more spiders hence me spotting the caterpillar.
We had been trying to persuade Ian to ride Space Mountain in the front assuring him it was the best place to sit because you can see where you were going easier. He likes to see where he is going. Reluctantly he did sit at the front and hung on for grim death. He did it and that will be the last time judging by his face when we got off!
We didnt manage to go on Pirates this time, with it being revamped it is more popular than ever. I just love the Pirate films. The dvd of Pirates 2 will be out soon. I cannot believe you have not seen them, you will have to hire them. Johnny Depp just makes both films.
For a change we caught the monorail out leaving the fireworks for another day. We have viewed the fireworks from a few different places but our favourite is on the Main Street with the castle in the background.
It was time for another chill out session and Typhoon Lagoon was the ideal place to go. We last went in 2000 and I fancied trying it again. I should have taken up running with you because I needed to leg it big style from that gigantic wave as it crashed down. I dont know how anyone can just stand there. The kids and Ian thought it was really funny watching me run away whilst I was in foot high water. We had some relaxing time in the lazy creek. A relaxing place to think about next time you have a terrible day.
It was excellent you getting that compensation for your bad holiday by the way, at least you will definitely enjoy your holiday in Orlando . I cannot wait to go again.
A spot of shopping followed at the Premium Outlets. Gary got some cool Nike trainers that are like walking in bare feet freestyle I think they are called. I got some more trainers 3 pairs of shoes so far! Craig wristbands these are dead handy for wiping the forehead in the heat, though you have to watch you dont get white bands around your wrists. Ian some super cool sunglasses.
I lost the family for a while accidentally and got scolded by the kids when they found me! Talking about Lost, isnt it a fantastic series? You just dont know what is going to happen next and I love the way it jumps back into the past and tells you a bit more about the story. I thought it was good how they showed the Others viewing the plane crash, another view of the story.
Suitably chilled we went to Epcot. Gary was slow getting out of the car, then when we were nearly at the entrance he said he wanted to change his shoes. Ian got a bit grumpy so I went back with him. Then we set off again reaching Spaceship Earth. We were just at the top of the line when Gary said he wanted to go to the toilets. By this time I was grumpy too after being delayed so long I told him he had to wait till after the ride. (I thought the ride was about to close). Well I felt guilty all the time I was on the ride and what a long ride it was. I felt like a terrible Mam. Gary wasnt too happy with me when we got off the ride but he never holds a grudge for more than 2 seconds so I was lucky. Next stop the toilets.
We had tea in Innovations they had add your own topping burgers, me a salad and chips. Ian confused the server by asking for 2 number 1s, 1 number 2 and 1 number 3. Well they did have numbers by everything.
During tea, Craig said Ian had said everyone keeps shouting at me. This upset me because it wasnt true and I felt perhaps he wasnt enjoying his holiday. I always have a day in a holiday when I get upset and usually it is a Wednesday, perhaps it is tiredness setting in. Seeing as I was upset Craig fell silent. Even after Ian assured me he was having a good time and my mood lifted, Craig was still locked away in silence. I felt like a terrible Mam again but if I am upset I am no good at hiding it, it is a fault of mine.
We had headed over to the very front and middle of the showcase for the fireworks. We had not seen these fireworks for ages and they were on Ians to do list. The kids couldnt remember them at all and all I could remember was they were good but couldnt see them all because of the crowds. Not so this year we were right by the lake and had an ideal view.
The fireworks were quite out of this world. A definite must do. I dread to think how much they must cost each night, enough to feed a small country probably! They quickly became Garys favourite, well worth doing.
On the way home we stopped off at the Red Hot supermarket for some snacks and a bottle of wine. The wine was delicious. I quite fancied a Chinese takeaway but our favourite was 1000s of miles away.
I do apologise for taking a while to write to you but Gary has now gone away to University. It is taking a bit of getting used to and we do miss him so much. He is only at York which is just an hour away but it is so strange not having one of the family at home. He is having a whale of a time and has made loads of new friends which is excellent. He is also keeping in close contact with us which is lovely. It is just another part of my development as a Mam but it is hard.
Thinking of you.
Love from
Bev, Ian, Gary and Craig
