So why didn't they just give you the other party's reservation and seat you?

Perhaps because the other party didn't actually have a reservation? I can imagine some very slick people who couldn't get a reservation deciding to just go to the restaurant, wait for a name to be called, wait and see if anyone went up and after a minute or two then saying "That's us!" They are in and the unfortunate family that really had the reservation are out.

I'm glad WDW accommodated the OP on another day, but really, I can't understand why they couldn't have found a way to make it happen that night.

OP explained that by the time they figured out what was going on, he had left the party to go and save them a spot for Wishes, and the rest of his party apparently didn't want to either bring him back or eat without him.

I don't understand why any restaurant in Disney still calls out names instead of using the buzzers. Disney is loud and some of the hosts/hostesses don't speak very loudly or clearly.

Sorry that happened to you and I hope you are able to get in on another night.

We did get a buzzer at dinner for Be Our Guest back in December. They never called our name. I wonder why they did not have that the other night? We checked in by stating our name and went in the first holding area. Then they buzzed us and we got in the second waiting area. Sorry to hear your experience.

Update: we have a new BOG reservation for Saturday night courtesy of a helpful manager.
