I read an interesting thread elsewhere, and thought that this board would offer its own wonderful insight. If you had to choose a resort for a late day checkout (great pool/places to hang out on your last day if you are not going to the parks, prior to the Magical Express) where would it be, and why?

It would depend on whether adults only or if with kids, the ages of kids. Some pools with splash pads and zero entry are great for preschoolers while others with big slides are great with older kids.

For adults I'd stay at any Epcot area resort because the Boardwalk is fun and I love the pools at BW and BC. Wilderness Lodge looks great, too. We have never stayed but it looks so interesting. With kids I would choose AKL - we loved everything about it! Pools are great, wonderful restaurants, and the cast members were always doing activities in the common areas.

Deluxe:
BC/YC for SAB and Boardwalk area

Mod:
- CSR for deluxe-like amenities (spa, gym), great pool, and variety of dining options
{or}
- POFQ if you plan to go to DSp (boat) or have small children (splash pad)

AKL comes to mind. I'm not a big pool guy but I'm guessing their pool is pretty cool. It's just a nice place to hang with the beautiful lobby, the lounge is relaxing (at least during the daytime) and you can stroll around, check out the animals, etc. WL also fits this description('cept for the animals.)

These are all such great recommendations! My husband and I stayed for one night club level at Animal Kingdom Lodge (we were picking our daughter up from a summer art camp, and we were celebrating our 25th anniversary a couple of weeks late to do this.) We didn't even to into a park. We had to check out of our room by noon, but didn't need to leave until much later (we needed to drive a couple of hours to our daughter's location for an early next morning art show, so we stayed near her location the second night). We thoroughly explored the resort, walking down both arms of Jambo House, listened to the guides, explored the nooks and crannies of the amazing lobby, and were able to still enjoy Club Level service, had snacks, appetizers, a few cappuccinos, an early beer (hours before we drove) and even got out a board game (it was pouring rain at one point - families saw this, and soon lots of games were out!) You can enjoy the lounge until midnight of the day you leave. I wouldn't have wanted to do that, but if I had a late flight, and it was pouring rain, it is a gorgeous indoor lobby, and it is lovely to have the club lounge. If I wasn't staying there, I think I would love the Polynesian and have a late brunch with Tonga Toast.

I would pick AKL Jambo or GF. Both have great pools with great changing areas (shower, shower gel, shampoo, hair dryers). Both have amazing lobbies and restaurants.
