A lack of planning on your part...

Some businesses still believe in good will. I figured it was a lost cause, but the Travel Agent said, it wasn't, and she was right. Sadly, mom was not well enough to advocate for herself, doubt she would have gone to the media. But I am fairly certain she would have contacted HAL herself for a refund if she had been able, that was her nature. And she had great success over her 90 years with that attitude. You never know until you ask.
I will add, many businesses are VERY VERY VERY mindful of bad online, Yelp type reviews. My daughter used a number of services in preparing her house for sale, and all those contractors encouraged her to write a Yelp review, and some even offered a discount if you did a review.
I have no disagreement with that at all, but that's not how you presented it. I presume this was also some period of time ago, as was another poster up-thread who described getting a refund from DCL 20 years ago.

2012.

How many times has the customer done all the right things but still got shafted by the airlines or cruise lines, and especially insurance. Those posts are plastered all over the Dis. It doesn't steam me one bit the airlines and cruise lines had to fork back a few bucks. Go to the media, post it all over facebook, whatever you have to do. A step towards calling it even.
I have no problem with people going to the media (social or otherwise) when they are truly wronged. This is not one of those times. A two hour flight delay is not unheard of or unusual. Worthy of a full refund? Only if the passenger(s) decides to cancel the flight. They didn't.

During Delta's meltdown in July, Delta cancelled our return flight from our cruise. We got our money refunded. In addition, those of us who are Skymiles members got 20-30K bonus points. Those of us who didn't got $300 ecredit. We're working with insurance to see if it will cover the rental car expenses.

Presumably these travelers CHOSE to fly in at that time, leaving very little room in case there's an issue. No airline is going to guarantee you arrive on time.

so people who purchase insurance are just suckers because they can take their story to social media (or tv) and shame the business into covering something that is not their responsibility?
As someone who purchases insurance, it would piss me off that folks were refunded. My parents had to cancel a cruise due to a cancer diagnosis, refunded because they had insurance.

exactly.
I read cruise critic pretty regularly. The first time you read about someone with an unexpected need to cxl or a missed cruise you think, "poor them, I'm glad the cruiseline was able to help them out" When you see posts at least weekly and know only a very small percentage of cruisers are on that site, you still feel bad for the cruiser, but less like someone else should compensate them. I buy insurance when I cruise and the only time I've ever flown in the day the cruise leaves was my very first cruise, Thankfully we arrived on time. I can't recall why but I feel like I had to file an insurance claim once for something relatively minor and once my travel agent compensated me for a hotel reservation she forgot to cancel when requested she do so.

Don’t miss the boat is a saying for a reason. You miss the boat? It’s gone! Arrive to WDW or Vegas 4 hours late? Still there!

Except the Chase Sapphire Reserve credit card requires, according to my information, an annual fee that supersedes my scenarios.

For me, the coverages are better without the annual fee with better perks for a different credit card.
After the $300 travel credit the card is only $250 per year. Cheaper than many individual travel insurance policies and the coverage is far better.

Which card has better travel insurance coverage. After Chase dumped the Priority Pass Restaurant credit I'm thinking about dumping it.
