Well, it looks like our first hurricane, Alex, is headed straight to our area. I went to buy bread and a few things this morning and the grocery store was packed! DH is a plant manager, so he's been fielding questions all day about hurricane readiness. Then he plans to come home and board up the house. He gave everyone the day off tomorrow, but he has to go in for last minute prep. Batteries-check, propane-check, gasoline-check, clean the yard, etc. etc. I'm so not ready for a hurricane this early. I don't know how the people in Florida did it one year-3 major hurricanes in about 6 weeks.

I tried to get my mom out of Brownsville, but she's staying put. Good luck to you, stay safe!!

From an experienced hurricane preparer - once you prepare once - you don't take the shutters off and keep the canned food ready. Prepping for the first one is the worst!

Good luck - charge all your electrical items to the last second and have a car charger ready.

Many folks didn't even remove their shutters and left all the outside junk in their garages. It was insane!

I haven't really kept up with the current one. How strong is it likely to get? Sounds like you're ready.:thumbsup2 Stay safe! :goodvibes

My mother had surgery this morning in Southern Florida, so thank you for taking the hit this time.

Seriously, I hope this isn't a sign of the season to come.

Don't forget to fill up your bathtubs with water so that you can use it to bucket-flush the toilets if the water is off after the storm. (Also bottle a few gallons for cooking.)

Selfishly, if hurricanes are going to happen, get them over with early. I'm going to WDW at the tail-end of hurricane season.

Seriously - stay safe!

I hope it just peters out. So sad to keep hearing of one thing aftere another, fo our southern friends.
Stay safe.

Good luck! I'm back in Orlando now but I'm still watching the weather for Harlingen. I'll keep you in my thoughts and prayers along with my daughter and her family who are also in Harlingen.

We'll keep a look out down the resaca for her. DH is afraid we'll get lots of flooding.

And four total that year not including more minor storms that didn't reach hurricane strength...

That was 4 weeks, 3 storms-all hitting central florida. The other one was in the panhandle.

Maybe it's because I've never lived where there are hurricanes, but I just couldn't handle dealing with that year after year - wondering if my house was going to blow away - or worse!

Hopefully it will fade away - rather than gathering more force..

Always good to be prepared.. I can still hear my mom now - "An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure.." Literally brainwashed me as a kid - LOL..

Good luck - and stay safe everyone! :goodvibes
