A horrible reminder to all.
Please make sure everyone uses there seat belt, Even the big kids. Who know so much more than you.
This last week was Springbreak for school children in the Mass area. A friend of my daughters went off with family friends to vacation in Florida. Sunday night driving home thru South Carolina just over the Georgia border the section of highway called 'crash corridor' the wind caught the carrier attached to the roof rack making the mother serve and over correcting causing the SUV to roll several times. The two teen girls where sleeping in the back not using seat belts. The daughter of the driver was ejected and killed, the parents where treated and released along with my daughters friend.
We go off on a wonderful trip with no cares in the whole and something tragic happens. Please, please remember to to make you children use the seat belts even if they want to sleep make them do it sitting upright in the seat. Today there is one less beautiful 15 yr old in this world.

That is really sad. Hopefully everyone else will take notice of your post and remind others to buckle up. Thoughts and prayers with the mother and her family.

That is sad :( I'm a seatbelt freak because back in 1994 a set of twins (brother and sister) that I went to school with, lost control of their car and one was ejected.--neither had their belt on. My stepfather was a voluteer paramedic and tried desperately to save their lives, but to no avail. They both passed away :(

So now, I have my seatbelt on, even if I'm just running up the street for something.

Good reminder now that the vacation season is almost here. In fact, they say most accidents are within 25 miles of home, so make sure seatbelts are on always

That is so tragic. My sympathies to all concerned.

God Bless.

I feel so bad for that family...how horrible!
Elaine....
What you have said is so true about most being near the house. My son's girlfirend's brother & their parents were coming home from a BMX race today. The brother has a Mustang & the parents have a Tahoe. The brother asked if he could drive the Tahoe home & they take his Mustang, so they swithed. The drive was a 45 minute drive.... when they got to the stop sign by the house, the brother looked both ways...but not good enough and boom!!! He was hit. The other kid who hit him...had his seat belt on & is ok.. car is totaled... the brother was in the Tahoe...and had his seat belt on..he is ok..car is in bad shape...had he been in the Mustang...he may have been seriously hurt if not killed. The other car was traveling 50 miles per hour..which is within the speed limit... and it could have been all avoided had he carefully looked before proceding thru the intersection.... and their house was within sight! ... and that may have been the reason... your guard is let down when closer to home... SEAT BELT are a MUST in my family!

We never let anyone ride in our car without wearing their seatbelt it is law all over Canada like it now is in many states. Even when we drive to Florida our 7 year old sleeps in the back seat in the van and she has to do it with her seatbelt on no matter what. She used to tell us it was to uncomfortable so we just tell her being dead will be even worse she understands that as we told he if she didn't want to she would not accompany us to Disney.

No, the reason the most accidents happen within 25 miles from home-is that, that is where MOST of us drive-within 25 miles of home...99 % of the time, but I agree- always wear your seatbelt-not too much to ask,and it could make a difference some day.

There is zero excuse/reason not to be belted at ALL times. So sad some do not. Ejection usually means death. So sorry for that family.

What a sad story. My heart goes out to that family.

Seatbelts are always a requirement in my car. DS also complains about being uncomfortable in his seat belt while trying to sleep on a road trip. OH well! That's the way it is!

We also had a fatality on Spring Break. A 17 yo young lady in our community had just been given a new SUV for her 18th B'day. She hit a blown tire on the interstate, lost control and rolled the SUV. She wasn't wearing her seatbelt and was killed.

I don't think teens need to be driving SUV's. They sit too high off the ground and are much more likely to roll than a car.

What a sad story. :( I hope your daughter is coping well.

A few years ago a friend of mine told me that she didn't like to wear a seatbelt because it was uncomfortable. But she said she always buckled up her son. I told her that was great. Her son would survive an accident but she wouldn't but that I was sure that he would be glad that she was comfortable. She now wears a seat belt all the time.

:( My prayers go out to the families and friends.

Two years ago our daughter (26) was in an accident while on her way home from work at 2am. She was hit head on by a drunk driver. Thank god she was wearing her seat belt, Her car was totaled. She was one big bruise from head to toe and still has problems with her back and leg.

On October 2nd 2003 i left home in my 1990 chevy suburban, fully customized suv,, seat belt wasnt working right ,, so i left it off thinking i'ld fix the latch when i get home. No biggy right, drove it all day all over area, no problems, took my time drove carefully etc. We own a home repair service that i was doing estimates for and i had driven over 60 miles that day, was on my way home around 3:30 pm when i was hit by a drunk driver in a school zone less than 1 mile from home. was thrown out passenger window, hung by knees on passenger door as my truck crushed front end of a motor home. bounced off into road, lost right half of my face. now 14 surgerys later, i still havent gotten use of eye back, my head is still partially shaved, i miss eye lids, i currently have 16 staples and several stitches in my fore head, eye lids really arent something u want to do with out, my truck was totaled, the barretta that hit me was crushed, the motor home lost the front cap, the drunk walked away. now i am facing $400,000 in med bills, still not able to work, can barely sit here for an hour at a time and read screen, believe me a seat belt is a life saving device, not a required evel, or something for cops to write you up for, Worst part is i normally wore my belt this was like the one time in months i got into the burbus and didnt strap in. i almost lost my life. i now wear them at all times and if the vehicle doesnt have operational belts i wont ride in it, Am hoping before the end of summer i am able to use my eye again, and maybe even be driving again by then, i know work is still a long way off, and that its going to get worse before it all over, we still have to go through court too. Prosecutor is charging the girl with 5 felonies, and is trying to get her to have to pay restitution, we find out by the end of july. sorry to vent, But i really am one big seat belt supporter now, and i really hope ppl will see this and it starts at least one person to using belts, and maybe saving a life,, life is precious, seat belts do save lifes and a lil bit of discomfort is definately worth the possibility that a life of a darling lil person or a grown man even, can be saved. please every one buckle up. the life u save will be your own. thanks..Froggy,,,,,(pirate: ),,look he looks like i do:) one these days i getting another eye lid i know it one these days:)

Wow, Froggy! God love you! I've been lax about wearing my seat belt lately, and you just cured me!

What a tragedy. That family must be devastated.

My kids never ask to unbuckle, but once my DD did ask because she wanted to lay down and sleep and I said "no way"....not worth the risk. This just makes me stand even more firm on the issue of seatbelt use.

Prayers to the family and friends and everyone this has affected.

Just read your story, Froggy, after seeing your reply on the picture thread. Amazing. My best to you in the days and years ahead. Hope others see your story and wake them up. Thanks for sharing.

So sad...:(

A few years ago my nephew was ejected out the back window of an SUV and thrown so far from the scene of the accident it took hours to find him.. Sadly, he was dead by then..

I'm pretty fanatical about seat belts - but I was prior to that accident as well.. Just makes sense to use them, if you ask me..

My husband lost his best friend 6 years ago because he wasn't wearing his seat belt either. He was driving alone, at night, in the rain without his seat belt. He had just graduated from college and was drivng home from a job interview. I will never understand that.
