Hello! I'm a big fan of the parks and all things Disney in general. I've converted my fiancé into a fellow addict and he even proposed in front of the Voices of Liberty in Epcot earlier this year. Neither of us have ever done a cruise before, but a Disney cruise is appealing to us for a honeymoon. We are strongly considering one of the Norway/Iceland/Mediterranean itineraries. We are hesitant due to the fact that it's a long (and expensive!) trip and I want to love it. Will I love it?? I want relaxation, he wants adventure, and we both love outdoor activities...would this be a good fit for us? Any advice?

If you have never done any cruise before can you swing a short non Disney cruise first? While I personally think cruises are amazing for honeymoons I would consider myself an experienced cruiser. If you've never gone before you may not know if you will get sea sick or if you find them relaxing (I do it is the one true vacation for me) or if you'll like it or not. The sea sickness is not something I would gamble for my honeymoon.

Go for it, cruises are the best combination of relaxation and adventure. My wife and I spend our honeymoon at Disneyland, (before DCL existed), and almost every family vacation is now Disney related. Book it and don't look back and I wish you a long and happy marriage.

Cruises are great for that combo. (though I would be prepared to understand that you might want to relax as he wants adventure, and decide if you as a honeymooning couple are OK being apart for a couple hours at a time to accomplish those things)

I would have rather gnawed my arm off than do a Disney cruise for our honeymoon, though. We did Royal Caribbean to Alaska instead. First cruise for me. DH used to sail on oil tankers well outside the Inside Passage. Only morning I got sick was when we left the Passage, but then again in the week between wedding and honeymoon, and especially in the 5 days from embarkation, we realized that (scary music here...) we were not alone, so it could have been my very first bout of morning sickness.

But in the year of planning the cruise being sick was NEVER anything I worried about. I figured if it happened I'd deal, and otherwise I would assume I wouldn't be sick.

We loved ours. Disney did what they do and recognized our honeymoon throughout (though this was 17 years ago, so YMMV). We were seated at a table of 8 with 3 other honeymoon couples. We had champagne in the room...
We enjoyed the adult only areas the entire time and rarely saw a kid (also did the late dinner seating). We enjoyed it. Ours was only 3 days since we'd never cruised before. If you don't get sea sick and are relatively adventurous I think you'll enjoy it.

Dh and I went on a Disney cruise for our honeymoon to the Caribbean 16 years ago. We've been on a few more since then and will be on one for our 17th anniversary next year. Neither of us had been on a cruise before our honeymoon. The only time I had any seasickness was our last cruise, and it certainly isn't going to stop me from cruising again. I think the different cruises you are thinking of would be lovely for a honeymoon! Congrats on your upcoming wedding!

I think cruising would be a great way to visit Europe comfortably, especially for a honeymoon--unpacking once on the ship and having it take you to different locations. Exploring during the day and coming back to the ship for dinner/show and not needing to worry about 'where' you're going to eat, etc.--and feeling pampered while on board. It would also give you a good mix of relaxing (on board) and activity off the ship. The European (and Alaskan) cruises have lecture series about the locations you'll be visiting--so you could also learn about the history/natural history of the ports you'll be visiting. Depending on the time of year, the amount of children on board will vary--I would think Europe would have fewer little kids than the Bahamas and Caribbean cruises...but I wouldn't know for sure!

As far as seasickness, check with a Dr. for possible medications to take. There are free samples in a bin near the health center--I ended up getting some on our first cruise (to Alaska on the Wonder) for DD16. It was chewable meclizine, which is the generic form of Bonine--it seemed to work well for her with no side effects. We brought seabands--which are acupressure bracelets; ginger candy; and Dramamine Naturals--which is just ginger in pill form. (I'll be bringing Bonine on our second cruise now that I know that DD gets seasick.)

Congrats on your upcoming wedding!

My son was married last month. They wanted a Disney Cruise, but not in the Caribbean, they have done those.
So they flew to Los Angeles and spent a few days there, then drove to San Diego for a couple days. They they went on The Wonder for a 5 night Baja cruise. They loved it, they said the first part of the honeymoon was go go go, but the cruise was so perfect and relaxing. The perfect way to end there once in a lifetime honeymoon.
I'm a DCL addict and I think you will love it. You can do as much or as little as you like while onboard.

Congratulations!!!

Our first cruise together was a DCL honeymoon. I think you will have a great time and there are aspects that will feed both of your requirements.

Go for it! Also, Congratulations!

We did DCL in Alaska for our honeymoon in July 2014. It was amazing. We'd done two short DCL cruises beforehand but the honeymoon was our first longer cruise, so it was nice and relaxing. The port days gave us the chance to do adventurous things like hike and meed sled dogs. We requested a table alone, and our stateroom host was amazing and left us treats every day. She said we were her first honeymoon couple so she wanted to make it special for us. :D We also went to Palo and they gave us the "Happy honeymoon" plate.

I also said DCL for my honeymoon! I have sailed many, many DCL cruises and have loved them all! We were also married on the ship at Castaway! :cutie:

What people are saying about sea sickness is true. If you've not cruised before it might be good to figure out what your motion sickness/sea sickness tolerance is. On each cruise we are both sea sick each and every time we sail. The bands, acupuncture and ginger chews keep the sea sickness MOSTLY away, but neither of us ever feels 100% the entire trip. So that's something that you'll want to take into consideration. With that being said, I'd never let the seasickness keep me from sailing (obviously) on DCL. :sail:

The crew will pamper and spoil you as much as they can and try to accommodate your every wish. I say go for it!! You can find both relaxation and adventure on a cruise with excursions and time on board!!

My husband and I took the Western Carib for our Honeymoon and the Eastern Carib for our 5th anniversary. Rates were much cheaper then though. :) I think Norway would be nice, but you're right... the Europe/Uk/Scandinavian cruises just look so expensive compared to other lines... would you be interested in Caribbean for the relaxation and adventure?
On the other hand... if you can afford it, and you're not stretching your budget (b/c don't forget... you'll need $$ for excursions BEYOND the fare of the cruise/flights).... go for it.

My girlfriend and I are huge Disney addicts as well and we had a blast on our first cruise together, well worth it.

If you are worried about expense, but want to do Norway -- maybe comparison shop other cruise lines to see what you can save. While I'm sure Disney would be great for a honeymoon, if you are that nervous about whether you will like it, maybe cheaper fares on another line might make it more attractive.
