any suggestions? I've had a mild headache all day long and its getting ready to make the jump from normal headache to migrane. I usually take Excedtin Migrane to head it off but I'm out of it. I've also noticed I have NO aspirin, ibuprofren, etc. Any home remedies to head it off before it gets worse???? TIA. :)

Ice behind your neck and/or over your eyes.
Chocolate.
Quiet and dark.

Good luck. I feel for you.

If the ice doesn't work try a warm cloth on your forehead. Or alternate between the two - that is what I usually do. A nice long bath would be good too.

A half a bottle of beer will sometimes work. Another weird thing that sometimes works for me is 1 Reese's Peanut Butter Cup. I've tried the cup of coffee or a bar of dark chocolate but neither of those has worked for me.

DO you have anything with mint in it? Try smelling it slowly.

I dont know. But maybe just try to lay down and relax.

Caffeine. It helps open up the blood vessels that constrict during migraines.

GET OFF THE DIS!!!!

Seriously though... a little reflexology. Press and hold the fleshy part between your forefinger and thumb.

I'm drinking some coffe now. Unfortunately we have NO chocolate in the house at the moment. lol I tried the ice thing but it made me cold.

Definately need to get some meds tomorrow, they usually last for a full day or two when I do get them. :(

That's exactly what you need.. Get in bed with a very cold wash cloth across your eyes and forehead - then snuggle up in the blankets.. Dark room - no noise - and if you're lucky, you'll drift off..

When I feel a migraine coming on I can sometimes take a nice, hot shower and it helps to relax me and in turn helps with the headache. I'm the migraine queen, however, and usually have to take Rx meds.

Sleeping it off/resting works for me. Also, I put one of those microwaveable heating pads on my upper neck. It helps.

for me, the meds definitley help, but i HAVE to go to sleep to break it. Otherwise I end up vomiting, face goes numb, have trouble talking. I'ts almost like a prolonged seizure.

Crawl up in the bed with a cold cloth and go to sleep if you can.

You do know that they are linking Migraines and Seizures together now? I'm just starting on a topomax regimine, it sucks at first, but it's starting to cut down the headaches in quantity and their durration.

My grandmom swore by cutting a potato into thin slices and placing them on her forehead, covering them with a cool damp towel and laying down. Supposedly the potassium in the taters helped.

I just had my Doctor pull me off of Excedrine Migriaine because it's nothing more than regular excedrine, and honestly, it causes rebound headaches for me.

I vote for the hot shower, followed by a cup o'tea and relaxing in bed. If you don't have a heat pack you can place on the back of your neck, you can fill a tube sock with rice and tie it up, then heat it in the microwave for 2.5 minutes, and place that on the back of your neck, it'll help.

Best of luck hon. :grouphug:
