Introduction:
Welcome to my latest trip report! This adventure includes DH-58, me-58, DS-29 and DS-27. As a little background, DH and I spent a glorious month in Disney this past spring (read that trip report here: Our Intentions were Good, but the Treats were Better) and plan to do so again this coming spring. We also discussed a short end of February trip to escape a little of the New England winter instead of our usual early December trip. As I looked at my countdown upon our return in May, it all seemed too far away. Then, I had a revelation, we’ve never experienced Halloween in Disney or the Food & Wine Festival. And, I had read rumors of the magical transformation of the Magic Kingdom to Christmas on Nov. 1st. So, we scheduled a trip for Oct. 26- Nov. 8 for DH and me.
Then…DS-27 called to tell us the famous 611 Steam Engine was going to be pulling tourist trains in Goshen, VA during weekends in October and that he planned on taking a trip there. I suggested since we were driving down anyhow, we could drive down a little early to ride the train and then drop him off at the Charlotte airport as we made our way to Florida. Well, then he decided since we were driving down, we could leave the Sunday prior, making stops in Lancaster, PA to visit the Strasburg RR and Cass, WV to ride the train there as well.
Then, not wanting to leave him out of the adventure, we called DS-29. Well, he said he didn’t really care about the train rides but since we were going to Lancaster he’d love to go to Hershey Park (which is only open on weekends this time of year). So, we added a few more days to the beginning of the trip to fit that in too…thus our 10/26-11/8 trip for 2 suddenly became 10/17-11/8 for 4, 3, then 2. I hope you join me as I recount our hauntingly merry journey involving trains, planes and automobiles.
