My wife and I (yes, we're both female) live in California and got "legally" married in San Francisco, Feb 14th 2004. Our marriage license became invalid just a month or so later after the SF Marriages were declared illegal. We also had a wonderful family, religious wedding that we'd been planning for a year, on Feb 28th 2004. So, we got married twice, neither of them legally binding.
While this is very, very happy news today, it's likely that the good news that the Ca. Supreme Court gave us today, will again be overturned in November as a "Defense of Marriage" statute will most likely, be on the November ballot. Sadly, there are a lot of intolerant people even in the beautiful, progressive state of California.
So, my wife and I are enjoying being able to legally call each other spouse today.

We are also cautious about being able to keep this legal status for any length of time.
It totally baffles me. It's not like allowing us to get married would invalidated heterosexual people from getting married. I honestly don't understand what the problem is. Maybe . . . because it's not an argument based on logic.
