A Halloween Adventure in Autism (11/7) Prayer Request for Catie (p.129)

Ahh yes....Flights of Wonder. I did it this past spring...only for the boys! I HATE BIRDS!! I sat in fear the whole show that one of those big ol' birds would fly over me and.....:scared1:....touch my head!

We enjoyed Pizzafari....pizza and kids is a sure hit!

Love the pic of you and Billy....so sweet!

Well, I agree that if you are a person who is truly afraid of birds, then this show would not be for you!

We've never had a bad lunch at Pizzafari. Yum.

I can't believe my baby is going to be twelve soon! :sad1:

Kathy

We've never done FOW, will have to be sure to add that for our next trip. Pizzafari is a great retreat from the heat, bummer they don't have the frozen lemonade anymore. That was always our choice too because it was so cold and refreshing.

What a great pic of you and Billy!

Aww, thanks!

As Liesa mentioned, above, you can still get the minute maid frozen lemonades elsewhere in the park. Still, it was nice to be able to use them as dessert on the dining plan.

I think you'll enjoy FOW!

Kathy

We enjoyed FOW show too....and I'm scared of birds! It was something fun to see, even though we may not go back every visit. :thumbsup2

Sweet pic of you and Billy! :goodvibes

That show would give me nightmares. I sit though the one at our local zoo every summer for Aisling benefit. It's horrible! I'm so glad that you guys had such a calm relaxing day at AK. Wasn't it so nice not to have to rush around?!?! Sorry you didn't get to try Y&Y. It is yummy. Maybe on a future trip!

You got some great scenery shots of AK by the way. Nice job!!! :thumbsup2

Chapter Eighteen: You Could've Heard a Pin Drop on the Savanna!

Sunday Afternoon
November 1, 2009
Animal Kingdom

So far we were enjoying touring Animal Kingdom in a very relaxed manner. I was especially happy to see that Catie was enjoying the park. DSis had warned me that Catie had not liked AK at all back in 2005; all she wanted to do was ride coasters and after two hours of being “bored” she had demanded to go back to the resort to swim! Well, four years (and the addition of Expedition Everest) can really change a person’s mind about a park… Catie said that she was having a great time. :thumbsup2

She and Tricia were more than ready to hit Kilimanjaro Safaris… they had been having such a good time photographing all the wildlife at Kidani Village and were pumped to see even more species of animals on the safari. Here is where our laid-back touring hit a little bump in the road. It was now late afternoon and we were experiencing the hottest part of the day. Temps were in the mid-eighties and it was getting humid. The good news was: We had zero wait on standby. The bad news was:

disneytrip2009tricia1423.jpg

Not one single animal could be found on the Serengeti!

Not to worry… as we bounced along over dirt roads filled with potholes we were able to find a few animals that were willing to brave the heat of the afternoon. This was the first time ever that I relinquished photography duties on this ride… Tricia and Catie were snapping away like mad… so I just sat back, held on tight, and “enjoyed” the bumpy ride! (Billy would love this ride even without animals because of the bouncing!)

I will keep pictures to a minimum… I don’t want anyone’s eyes to start glazing over!

You can always count on meeting flamingos:

Aww! Mama and Baby!

This was the best shot they could get of the Lazy Lion!

disneytrip2009catie1180.jpg

Our driver stopped the vehicle so we could watch this elephant pick up a log with it’s trunk and move it, end over end, from one place to another. Some of the kids wanted to know why it was doing that and the driver said, “He’s a teenager, he’s probably just bored!” :rotfl:

disneytrip2009kathy1863.jpg

Ah, there are always crocodiles under the rickety bridge!! What do you think? Does the staff keep their food right under the bridge where we can’t see it? Either that or they've got those rocks temperature controlled!

disneytrip2009tricia1421.jpg

What a relief to know that Little Red was rescued from the poachers!

disneytrip2009kathy1869.jpg

We finished our safari. It wasn’t the best one we’ve ever had, but we saw some good stuff. The kids really liked seeing the baby giraffe with it’s mother and the elephant moving the log. We checked our watches and realized that we had just enough time to make it for the last showing of Festival of the Lion King, so we decided to skip the nearby Pangini Forest Trail and hurry over to Camp Minnie-Mickey.

Guess what stopped us dead in our tracks?

Kathy

I'm impressed you saw that many animals on the Savannah. We saw NOT a single giraffe or elephant when we went in the afternoon. That's why we go there first thing now.

Safari first thing in the morning in the drizzle--lots of "aminals".

Safari mid-afternoon with tons of humidity--no "aminals"!

Looks like you had a great AK day!! I am so happy Catie is having fun. We love FOW, it is a great show. I have never seen the savannah that empty. I would say the parade stopped you in your tracks.

That looks like a pretty good safari ride to me! Of course, we've only ever done it in the rain! That elephant turning the log over and over is cracking me up - especially the teenager comment. Did the girls have any reaction to that?

I am thinking there was a parade spotting in you near future....

I bet the girls had just as much fun trying to catch the elusive animals with the cameras as they did on the safari itself!

Sorry more weren't out but the elephant moving the log and the baby giraffe are awfully cute!

Definatley looks like you had a fun AK day. We skipped FOW because we've seen so many bird show at zoo's and our local Rennaisance Faire but reading you report I'm kinda bummed we diden't stop to see it.

Sounds like a fun AK day! Even though you didn't see that many animals on the safari, it sounds like it was a unique ride. :thumbsup2

Dear Kathy,
Last night I dreamed you had finished your TR (although I protested internally that you had just started at AK). I was very embarassed as I am still on my first day, and I have neither children nor a spouse to keep me off the DIS.

:rotfl::rotfl::rotfl: This looks like the same exact shot I've always gotten of those lazy lions in eight trips!

What do you mean leaving us with that cliff-hanger??????

I've learned my lesson! :teacher:

Yup. (Who can blame them, really?) I'd be hiding out in the shade, too!

The driver was very apologetic. We approached the savanna portion and he commented, "And here is my favorite view because there are always so many animals here!" And we found... nothing!
