A Halloween Adventure in Autism (11/7) Prayer Request for Catie (p.129)

Yay for the Great Movie Ride - love it! We always seem to get the gangster too, only had the cowboy once. :confused3

I always get the gangster version too. I have seen the cowboy version ONCE....only once! Last June we never rode GMR because the queue was always out the door. In September I asked DH if he wanted to ride and his reply was, "No....Boring". :confused3 I like the ride personally, especially all the movies clips, which I swear they change ever so slightly.

In the words of Billy, "Fantasmic!, pleaaaase!"

We always get the gangster ("gangsta" to us New Englanders) scene, too. I do know that you can request the cowboy scene, though.

Has Tricia read the Kingdom Keepers books, by any chance? If she hasn't, I recommend them! She'd love them!

I loved The Great Movie Ride the first two times we did it. After the 5th time? Not so much. :rolleyes1

I think we've only had the cowboy once or twice.

We love the Great Movie Ride, we have a friend that is in the CP down there right now and is one of the guides on the ride. I will have to send her a message and see if they run the cowboy verison all the time or not. We have only seen the gangster scene, I will ask her if that is because the accessible ride car only goes to the gangster? You have me curious now.

I hope Billy got to see Fantasmic!!

The Great Movie ride! We've always had the gangster too, haven't yet seen the cowboy version. I recall reading somewhere when the ride isn't dreadfully busy they only have one version going, the gangster, but I'd be curious to hear the official answer. :thumbsup2

It's funny you mention the female version not being quite the same. We had the same experience and I agree. Couldn't put my finger on why... it just was.

I think my favorite part as well is the montage at the end. :goodvibes

We have yet to do this ride but it is on my list for our next trip! Thanks for the insight, think we might add a home showing of Wizard of Oz to our pre-trip ( homework) list!

Yay I was right - GMR!! We like that ride and having the movie clips in the que area is great for Daniel. We too have always gotten the ganster version and I agree that it just isn't the same with a girl ganster. :confused3 I have also read that you can request the cowboy side and think we'll do that next time.

Can't wait to hear about F! Daniel was dead set to see it on our last trip and we didn't get the dinner pkg so I was very wary of trying to brave the crowds. Well, Mother Nature helped me out and it got rained out on our only DHS day. Daniel was so caught up with being in a rainstorm that he forgot about the show thankfully!

I can't wait to show LeeAnn the GMR!! I think she'll really like it! I had to laugh at your captions!!

"I think her sister's gonna be mad.." :lmao:

I've only been on the GMR once and it was the gangster and we were sitting next to him. It was cute, but I think I would prefer NOT being in the front row as he was LOUD! :lmao: I love the Mary Poppins scene and of course the Wizard of Oz scene!

Can't wait to hear about Fantasmic! :goodvibes

Ahh...the Great Movie Ride! I think it's completely under-appreciated! I'm glad you all enjoyed it. :thumbsup2

It's such a classic!

::yes:: I always get really weepy during the montage scene! ;)

 I actually get a bit teary-eyed myself!
Is it because I remember so many of those "old" movies??

We love Great Movie Ride over at our house! :thumbsup2

Hmmmmm, how crowded would Fantasmic be? It doesn't matter to me, because I :love::love: that show!

Billy was on a mission to see Fantasmic last year.... :smickey:

Us too! What's up with that?

So many fabulous pictures came out of MGM Studios!

I'm not sure... I will ask her! :thumbsup2
Right now she's reading Les Miserables... for fun! :upsidedow

I do believe that a "gangsta" version of GMR would look quite different... ;)

Seems like that's more than most folks!

You know I can't disappoint my Billy! :lovestruc

Good question about accessibility and which version you get...

I think the montage just hits you with classic after classic... and somehow it conjurs up a more simpler time in movie-making. I always get a bit nostalgic...

You're probably right about the second version opening when its busy. That would explain a lot!

...just watch out for the scary witch parts!! :scared: She terrified me when I was little!

Well, that was lucky! And yes... you did guess right!

I suppose when I think of old-time gangsters from the movies I think of James Cagney and Edward G. Robinson, not a college-age girl! :rotfl:

"I think her sister's gonna be mad.." :lmao:

And when the Wicked Witch ain't happy, ain't nobody happy!

Do me a favor... ask for the cowboy version and see what happens!

Oh, we were seated right behind the driver once and I'll make sure never to do that again! Those blanks are VERY loud!

Kathy

She's reading Les Miz? For FUN?!

I stand up and applaud her. That book is incredibly long and difficult. While I enjoy the musical, I can't bring myself to read the book. I had to force myself to read Great Expectations :rotfl:

Gangstaaa :cool2:

Meg, she got through part one and told me this afternoon that she may save the rest for summer vacation... it is taking her a bit of time to get through it (with the dictionary by her side!) Victor Hugo is not for the light reader!

She's on a "classics kick" right now... just got back from the library with Alexander Dumas' The Man in the Iron Mask and The Count of Monte Cristo. We recently saw the movie version of the latter and she enjoyed it very much.

Before Les Mis she read the Bronte Sisters' Jane Eyre and Wuthering Heights (I can never remember which sister wrote which!)

Is it possible she's getting tired of vampires and werewolves?? ;)

Kathy

I started a new job, so while I have been reading along I haven't been commenting.

But, I love books and I have to ask "has she read To Kill a Mockingbird?"

Abby is loving the Kingdom Keepers series, the third one was just released. She had just finished the second one and is loving them.

With any luck! :rotfl: (as a HS teacher, I have issues with certain vampires, and the lack of classics in the curriculum... so I'm thrilled that Tricia is reading the classics, and possibly getting tired of the vampires... :thumbsup2 )

She read Wuthering Heights?

Dear goodness...did she understand it?! I had to read it for English III H this past summer, and I didn't understand a bit of it. I gave up halfway through, I'll admit it.

Has she tackled Dickens yet? A Christmas Carol is a good place to start there.

If she ever needs any book recommendations, I have tons!

Yes, she read that a couple of months ago (on my recommendation!)

Congrats on the new Job!!! :thumbsup2

Thanks... she's only fourteen, but now when she cruises the "young adult" section of the bookstore she's a bit frustrated that all the books seem to have the same basic plot.

I'm thrilled that she asked me for some recommendations!

(Clothes - no. Books - yes!)

She is compiling a "Books to Read List" ... she's definitely looking for suggestions. She has never had a summer reading list required for school! So, she's making her own!

Wuthering Heights and Jane Eyre were another two of my suggestions. :rolleyes1 Last summer, she actually found Jane Austen a bit difficult but plans to take a second crack at Pride and Prejudice , Sense and Sensibility, and Emma this year.

I :lovestruc Jane Austen!

If she can read Bronte, I'm sure she can handle Austen now... of course, I'm sure that if she re-reads Wuthering Heights in a few more years she'll get more out of it.

Now, as for Dickens... I do believe Oliver Twist is on The List... She knows the story of A Christmas Carol so well. I know she will want to read something "new."

OT: Funny memory about A Christmas Carol... you will enjoy this, Meg, since you love history...

When I was a Freshman in HS we had to write a term paper for our history class, Western Culture. It was basically an Intro to European History class. The paper was due at the end of the semester (December) so I chose A Christmas Carol from the list of titles because I thought if I had to write a research paper, I might as well write it on a book that would help to get me in the Christmas Spirit!

Any way, my paper was titled, "The Cultural Aspects of Charles Dickens' A Christmas Carol." It was actually rather fun to write!

A couple of days after I turned it in, my history teacher approached me and accused me of plagiarism! "This is a college-level paper!" he said. "Did an older brother or sister write this?" Ha! (I laugh about it now, but I was horrified that he would accuse me of cheating.)

Boy, was he taken aback when I offered to call my mother on the spot and have her bring all my notes, index cards, and rough drafts into school! (Remember, this was "pre-word processor" and we did all that stuff longhand.) I still had everything strewn about on my desk at home.

He declined the offer, but told me he would consult with my English teacher to see if it was "consistant with my other papers." (Little did he know I was getting an "A" in English!)

The next day I brought in all my materials and he apologized profusely. Seems he had checked with my English teacher and found out that I actually could write that paper!

I wish I had it now so I could show it to Tricia...
