A Halloween Adventure in Autism (11/12) New Thread Begun on TR Board!

To all my DIS-Friends:

Please send prayers  and positive thoughts :goodvibes for my Dad, who will be having heart surgery on 10/14... he's getting an artificial valve.

The hospital wanted to schedule him for the first week of November, but he didn't want to have the surgery while we were in Disney.

He had a triple bypass a few years ago and recovered quickly; I'm praying for a repeat situation!

Thanks so much ~ :grouphug:

Kathy

Prayers and Pixie Dust for your Dad's strength as he undergoes surgery and for you and your family as you support him.

Prayers and :goodvibes for a successful surgery and quick recovery!

Sending good thoughts your way, Kathy. Hope that all goes well with your Father!

Hi Kathy:

Thinking positive thoughts and saying prayers for your dad. What a bummer to need surgery again so close to his original bypass surgery? What valve is he having replaced? Are all his bypass grafts open? (I hope you don't mind so many questions, but I work in cardiac surgery)

The hardest part of the Redo surgery is opening the sternum again, unless he is having minimally invasive mitral valve surgery. Otherwise, his recuperation should be similar, as long as he doesn't have any new or significant health problems (lung disease, kidney disease).

I really hope everything goes really, really well.

Hi Mary Ellen!

He's having the aortic valve replaced and unfortunately it's the traditional surgery, not the minimally invasive procedure. But, his grafts are fine... a very slight leakage noted in the mitral valve but not enough to warrent any treatment right now.

He was born with a bicupsid aortic valve, so its not a surprise that its giving him some trouble now that he is in his 70s.

He is otherwise in good health, so I'm very hopeful that he will do well. The same surgeon who did his CBBG five years ago is performing the valve replacement and we love him... what a great doctor!

Thanks for your concern and I will definitely call on you for your expertise if needed!

Kathy
