Delta changed our April return flight times from a non-stop, Tampa to Boston to a 1 stop flight from Tampa to Detroit to Boston. :sad1:
The problem is, our plane is scheduled to land at Detroit-Wayne County, MI (DTW) McNamara Terminal at 5:14pm and leave Detroit-Wayne County, MI (DTW) McNamara Terminal at 5:45pm. IF our flight lands on time that gives us a half hour to change planes. :scared1:
Has anyone missed a flight when changing planes?
Unfortunatly this is the best available flight at this time. :sad1:
Should we change our flight to a worse time to avoid missing our Detroit connection? :confused3
Good luck all,
Joe

I think you'll be okay. That's a big new terminal, but it's easy to get around. You will have to move it though.

What is your travel date? I can't check availability without knowing your travel date but I see plenty of connections via ATL. One would allow you to leave TPA at 2:45pm and arrive in BOS at 8:26pm with a 1hr 23min connection.

Our travel date from Tampa to Boston is April 24th. :sad1:
I've been checking the flights on a daily basis. :surfweb:
The afternoon flights including our flight are booked solid. :sad1:
The only flights with available seats are early morning and the're the worse flights that I'm trying to avoid. :scared1:
Has anyone missed a flight because of a close connection time? :confused3
Good Luck All,

How many seats do you need and what is the latest time you would want to arrive in BOS?

Are you sure you change planes? It isn't just a stop to pick up passengers?

Is it a full size jet to full size jet? The RJ concourse at DTW is farther away than the main concourse. I connected in DTW 2 weeks ago from RJ to Full Size and I was over to the new gate in about 15 minutes. Of course, after I rushed my connection was about 30 min late.

I have never missed a flight but my luggage has! Are you checking luggage and can you live with the possibility that your luggage may not make it back to Boston when you do?

If you end up missing your flight, you will be put on a later flight, either that night or the next morning based on space availability. If the delay was caused by weather and you need to stay overnight, you will have to pay for the cost of the hotel, although you may get a discounted airline "distressed passenger" rate. -- Suzanne

Would flying into TF Green (PVD) be an option for you? There are a few flights, with connections through ATL that are an 1hr or so to change planes.

Thanks for all the suggestions.
We're leaving Tampa on a Airbus Industrie A320
and changing planes in Detroit to a Boeing (Douglas) DC-9-50 headed for Boston.
Delta won't let us change airports, just departure and arrivial times.
Good Luck All,
Joe

a flight usually starts boarding 30 minutes b4 departure . . .

if it were me ... I'd be looking for something different . . .

but that's me . . . .

beacuse they will start boarding your connecting flight as your current flight pulls up to the gate. I just flew this past weekend and on all the boards at the gate it would state when the doors for the flight were closing. It was always at least 5 minutes before the scheduled departure time.

If your plane is running right on time (and not early, which they often do), you'll really only have about 20 minutes to get there. Your luggage will never make such a tight connection.

Are you near the front of the plane on your 1st flight.

My family is great at hustling to make a connection, but I think that is super tight.

They changed our flight times......again; this time for the better. :surfweb:

That gives us 41 minutes to change planes. :teacher:

I'm glad you flight change is for a bit better!

I have done several flights with very little layover time between each leg of the trip. I have always called the airline to find out what gates each leg is taking place out of/from. I have a map of the airport terminal pulled up on the computer screen to see how fare between gates to see if I think I can manage it. (I always change if I feel I can't)

Have a great trip!
