A Guide to Going to Disney on Your Birthday!

I'm so glad I found this thread again. We had to change our November trip to January. Now we will be at WDW for our youngest DS's 14th birthday and my 37th.

I'm bummed that we will miss our DD's 6th b'day by 3 days - and I don't feel right having her wear a birthday pin when it isn't her b'day

I think that is close enough. Plenty of kids have birthday parties that are not on the actual date of their birthday. It is still a birthday celebration. I say let her wear a pin!:thumbsup2

I had planned to take my DGD for her 8th birthday, however it is July 14 and I fear it will be miserably hot and crowded during that time. I had thought about going the first week of June but I think that would be too much of a stretch from her actual birthday. She has been stating she wants to go to WDW on her birthday for three years and we haven't done it yet because of when it is:headache:

Keep in mind that this thread was started many years ago. Even when the OP wrote it, their experience was the exception rather than the rule. There have also been cutbacks since this was originally posted ( and the experiences of the OP go back over many years of birthdays).

At one point, relatively few people even knew about the pins. Five or six years ago, we could be in a park for a day and see only a handful of people with any kind of celebration pin. It was also rare to see a group with special celebration shirts like the OP made - we could be in the parks many days in a row without seeing any.

On recent trips, we could almost always see someone in line or where we were walking/waiting with a special pin. And the special celebration shirts are getting more common. We might not see a group every day, but close to.
With so many people celebrating, there is no way that WDW can give each person all the sorts of special things the OP mentioned.

So, go with the expectation that you will get a fair number of greetings, but anything else is pixie dust that most guests who are celebrating birthdays don't get.

This has been our experience at both WDW & DLR in the last few years. We've each celebrated our birthday there, but received a button (had to go to guest services to get it ourselves) and many warm birthday wishes when they see it but nothing else. No cupcakes, pictures, FPs. or special events/presents in our honor.

Just celebrated my birthday at the beginning of Sept noted it on my reservation and every ADR I had

Got plenty of Happy Birthdays from CMs free birthday cupcake at every restaurant and then I gave myself a little photo op party with Pluto as it was his birthday the day before :cheer2: Celebrate :cheer2:

We are going in honor of all three of my kids' birthdays (they fall within 5 weeks of one another) and did tell them at reservations that we are celebrating all three. I hope they do something special for their birthdays!

Did they used to decorate your room? They don't do that now. Well, unless you pay them to. LOL

Shirts...shirts?! Why didn't I think of that last time?!

Well, excuse me. Got to run to JoAnn's and get some shirts and plan!

I honestly don't think they would do anything for me if I put a pin on. I will be there for my ACTUAL birthday on July 1. Should I even bother? I'm turning the big 3-0

This thread is a bit old. But they still do some of it. For my dd8 5th birthday she got a chocolate and sprinkle covered marshmallow on a stick. We lost count of how many people told her Happy Birthday and that made it special enough. We will be there for DH's birthday on Oct 27th, so I'll report back.:goodvibes

What a great post, sounds like your birthdays are a blast!!! I really wanted to do Disney for my daughters 6th birthday in Nov. but my DH just can not take vacation that time of year so we ended up planning our trip for May, and *my* birthday falls 2 days after we arrive.

I'm still bummed about not doing my dd's birthday there, and was considering doing her half birthday, but even that is 2 weeks after our trip. Would it be totally corny to pick a day as her 5 1/2 birthday even though its not the 24th??

You can celebrate your birthday anytime you are there. We are going in August and my DD;s birthday is in December. We have already told WDW when we booked that we were celebrating her birthday there....we may do a day for each of our birthday's...my DW's is a week and a half before we go.....

I think you still should wear the pin! My son turned 7 on our trip. He wore a Mickey birthday shirt and a pin and maybe got like 2 happy birthdays. I think the reason was it was extremely packed when we went and CMs were stressed out. Even still, he was celebrating with our family and that's all that mattered. You will feel a little extra magic with the pin on. :)

Get three birthday pins. One that says your name, one that says 30, and one that says either the word "TODAY!!!" Or has the date on it so people know that it is your actual birthday. :)

It just makes it a little bit extra special for you and more people will notice and take the time to wish you a happy birthday. :goodvibes

I was there for my 40th. I wore a birthday pin only. I had more people tell me "Happy Birthday" in those 4 days than I had in 40 years. Lol
