A Grandma, A Mom, and A Little Boy Table Service Reviews
Me (A Mom), age 35, my mother (A Grandma) age 63, and my son (A Little Boy) age 4 went to Disney the end of April (Im a little behind on my review!!). This was our first time using the Dining Plan.
This is the second part of my dining review.
Heres what we ate for our table service meals (all are dinner except for Donalds Breakfast):
Le Chefs de France at Epcot:
I had lobster bisque, short ribs, and chocolate mousse cake. The lobster bisque was solid. I dont remember much meat in it. I do prefer when bits of lobster are in the bisque. The short ribs were OK. They werent terrible, but I wont order them again. They were just a little too stringy and chewy for me. The chocolate mousse cake was not good. I will definitely not order this again.
Grandma had the tenderloin. She really liked it. She likes her meat on the rare side, and the steak was cooked to her liking. She did think the potatoes were undercooked.
Little Boy had chicken and pasta, which he ate. We had a tough time with the appetizer for him because the choice was either a salad or a puff pastry. Hes four, so he doesnt eat salad yet, so we went with the puff pastry. He picked at it, but didnt really eat it.
We had a 5pm ADR, so we were able to see Remy. He was cute, but my son was not as excited as I thought he would be.
I am also a Francophile, and I really love the interior of this restaurant. I did feel like I was eating in France!
Overall: We are planning to go back here next year, and I would recommend this place to a friend.
Chef Mickeys at Contemporary:
We enjoyed Chef Mickeys. The wait was not too long, the characters came around in a timely fashion, and my son loved dancing with Pluto. I also love the Contemporary, so it was thrilling for me to be able to eat there.
The food was standard buffet fare, and I thought it was all edible. Stand outs for me were: the mashed potatoes and turkey gravy and the pasta with red pepper sauce. I did note that the ribs were not bad and were very tender.
Overall: I would recommend this place to a friend.
Le Cellier at Epcot:
This was the ADR I was most looking forward to. I tried not to get my hopes up too high. Years ago, I was terribly excited to eat at the California Grill, which had just been named one of the best restaurants in Central Florida. Well, CG was fine, but certainly not on my best of anything list. If I had went in there with normal Disney food expectations, I would have enjoyed my meal much more. So I was trying to temper myself for Le Cellier.
I had the cheese soup, filet, and crème brulee. The cheese soup has been hyped a lot, so I was excited to try it. I love a good soup! It was quite tasty, but it was different than I expected. I guess I was expecting it to be insanely cheesy, and it was not. The filet was cooked as I liked it, and had a good taste to it. The risotto was fantastic. The maple crème brulee tasted like pancakes!! Just as a note, I really wanted to try the soup and the filet, so I chose to pay for the soup OOP. The filet is not offered on the Chefs Menu.
Grandma also had the filet, which she enjoyed, and the mojito sorbet for dessert. The sorbet really did taste just like a mojito!!
Little Boy had cheese pizza, carrots/celery, apples, and a make your own sundae. He was a good eater this night, so everything must have been good! He also had a smoothie (we paid extra for this), which he still talks about.
We all loved the pretzel bread!! And I did love the interior of the restaurant.
Overall: Le Cellier is really great. We had a wonderful time here. Our server, Randy, was really personable and great with my son. I absolutely will go back here.
Donalds Breakfast at Tusker House at AK:
We enjoyed Donalds Breakfast! The food was a nice mixture of familiar (scrambled eggs, bacon) and interesting. The juice was yummy. We had an 8:10 ADR, and we were outside before 9AM, so we were able to get on the first safari of the day! Character interaction was OK. It was a little more rushed than Chef Mickeys or Crystal Palace. But it was fine. We only take pictures anyway.
Overall: I definitely would recommend Donalds Breakfast to a friend, and we are planning on eating here on our next trip. I really loved beating everyone to the safari! Just a note, you meet Donald on the way in. You get your picture taken with him (like with Cinderella at CRT). But, the picture is not included in the buffet price. You have the option of purchasing it.
Crystal Palace at MK:
The food was pretty standard for a buffet. I enjoyed the carved beef and turkey, and I thought they had a good selection of salads. The desserts were not good. I tried several, and none made it past the first bite.
We were seated 35 minutes past our ADR time. We had checked in 15 minutes early, so total wait time was 50 minutes. We didnt have a character at our table for 45 minutes after we sat down. Im hoping this was an anomaly, but to be quite honest, Im not inclined to give CP another chance anytime soon. Needless to say, my son was quite cranky at the end of this meal which from check-in to leaving was over 2 hours.
Overall: Due to our long wait times for both seating and characters, I wouldnt recommend CP to a friend unless they are desperate to see Pooh and friends.
Kona Cafe at the Polynesian:
My notes from this dinner are missing! But Kona is one of my go-to restaurants because I feel the quality is consistent and its never too crowded. Plus I love the Poly!!
I had the miso-glazed mahi mahi, and it was fine. I did like the soba it came with. I wish I could remember the dessert I had, but clearly it wasnt memorable!!
Overall: I would recommend Kona to a friend, and I will definitely return in the future.
Donalds Breakfast is definitely on my rotation now, but only if I can get an early ADR. Grandma has requested a return visit to Le Chefs de France for our next trip. I do think were going to try the Akershus Princess dinner instead of Chef Mickeys or Crystal Palace. Little Boy really likes the Princesses, and weve seen them at CRT and at Ariels at California Adventure. As a side note, Little Boy asked Cinderella at Ariels if she remembered him from our CRT lunch last year, and without missing a beat, she said Of course I do, little prince. I am also interested in trying the Plaza Restaurant at MK next trip. And I do think well go back to Le Cellier, even though it will be 2 credits.
