Went for our holiday haircuts yesterday - now both myself and DD has a very straight style using straighteners. Do you bother taking straighteners to Florida - I suppose they would just take double the usual time to heat up?

I love my ghd's and wouldnt be parted with them for anything BUT my hair is very thick and very long so even with ghd's it takes around 35-40mins for me to do my hair and in Orlando I dont think I will be using them. I will take them just in case but it is probably going to be far too hot to bother only to then wear my hair up because of the heat anyway.

I have to say I wouldn't bother - I just stick it all up in a baseball cap! Not very fashionable I know but to be honest my comfort takes precendence over how I look when in Orlando in August, LOL

I definitely wouldn't bother with hair straighteners. It will be hot and humid in Orlando, so your hair is very unlikely to stay perfectly straightened anyway, making it a bit of a waste of time. Also, like the other posters pointed out, you will more than likely end up with your hair up and out of the way. Another thing to remember is that the heat and sunshine is bad for your hair, so it's probably best not to stress it more by straightening it in the mornings. :sunny:

after 10min in the humidity no one will be able to tell if its been washed

I can't go without my hair straighteners, so I bought some from Wal-Mart, they weren't too expensive - but I would recommend taking some L'Oreal Hot Straight with you, I was able to straighten my hair even when it got damp or frizzy.

LOL I have to agree - I'll be the one in the Minnie hat - with shorts (even though my legs are dire) and a bum bag :goodvibes

i also live with my ghd's my hair is really thick and the sun makes if fluffy and i hate it

I take them!! my first thing I pack

i usually wash my hair and put it straight up out of the way............its too hot to have it around my face :)

I wouldnt bother personally i would either just stick it up outta the way or buy a cheap set in Walmart or something and buy some products to compromise

If it must be the straighteners, i would definitely say to buy when you're there - they won't be expensive, and they don't take up a lot of room to bring home and use for your next trip! And at least they will work properly when you're there.

The only straighteners you will find in places like Walmart look like what we had in the 80s!! The Americans really arent that into straightening !

I live out here now so bought some chi which are the American version of GHD but they were over $100 !

I too love my GHD's but last year they took forever to warm up and as soon as I set foot outside I wished I hadnt bothered.
I'll probably leave them at home this year

im exactly the same as you very thick long hair that still takes ages to straighten with ghds. i didnt take mine with me. while i was in florida i coated my hair with a special leave in conditioner for the sun and i had it tied up all the time so it didnt dry out. i dont leave the house without straightening my hair here but i didnt want to waste time doing it there. plus nobody knew me lol. plus i spent most of the holiday soaked from water rides etc so it would have just frizzed up again.

love

lucy

ps talking of water rides did anyone notice how bad the water smelt on the water rides an how dirty it was. yuck

My daughter's hair is curly and living here in Orlando,it does get very frizzy. She spends a lot of time with straighteners, but when we do any of the parks, its ponytails, clips, etc.

With the voltage difference in the states, do they actually work properly? I am concerned that mine might blow the fuse or something!!

Im going to take mine this year, I wont bother using them during the day but I would like to be able to straighten my hair when we go out at night. They wont blow a fuse but they will just take longer to heat up than they do here.

My daughter uses these, and could not live without them, so we went to Wallgreens when were were there and got some for $9.99.

Was just wondering if GHDs get as hot as they do in the UK, don't mind if they take a while to heat up as long as they get just as hot!!!

Just back and took the straighteners - guess what - they stayed in my case -didn't even plug them in - shouldv'e gone with the advice on here! Just washed and went!
