A Gem of a trip-quality, clarity, color and "Cut that out!" completed 8/4

Wow! Just Wow!

Hi Diamond,
I just read both your trip reports and loved them! Funny, I feel like I know you and your family now! :rotfl2: Thank you for writing. I really enjoyed hearing about your trips and seeing the pictures. You have a beautiful family. How is the dance school stuff going for Eeyor? Can't wait to read more.

:hippie:

Ops!

My journal pages were stuck together and I wouldn't have noticed if it weren't for Cindy.

Miss Cindy and I were upon a picture of her that was taken that day but I didn't include in my report. That's when I realized that I had left stuff out in my last chapter. I can't believe I forgot it because it involves my favorite Disney Character.

Ariel. (Why is there not a smilie of her? Who do I complain to about that?) Remember I was Ariel at the family magic tour? Ariel was the first Disney princess that Cindy noticed. Just before she was two it was her favorite movie and naturally we had to watch it over and over and over and over and well… if you have ever been around a two year old obsessed with something you know what I mean.

We did go back to POR and I did do two loads of laundry in a coconut rum induced haze but before that Cindy and I split from Dh and Jedi. They went to check out toontown and the barnstormer while Cindy and I went into Minnie's house. Shocking I know but I kept the existence of toontown from my family last year so it was a new place to explore for them.

After Minnie's house Cindy and I then headed to the Grotto to see our girl Ariel and to do some shopping because that's what the two of do best together much to Dh's chagrin.

We waited in the rain for Ariel for 45 minutes. Cindy was great about it. Whenever she is having alone time she is always great. And yes, there are more pictures of Cindy than anyone else from our trip because I am the holder of the camera and Cindy is paired up with me. It is not because she is our favorite. In fact today after the Haunted house scenario I think I can safely say that she was not even on Dh's good list.

But back to the Grotto. Whenever I see pictures of it in people's trip reports there are kids in bathing suits jumping around giggling. Not so much today. It was raining on and off again. There was a wind. And of course there was the whole tropical storm threatening to appear anytime again. It is a pattern for the first five days of our vacation.

In front of us there were a couple of families who dropped out the line was so long. It was always the Dads who didn't want to wait anymore. The Moms and the kids were willing to wait. It was also close to lunchtime so I guess the Dads were getting especially hungry.

I had an umbrella with me but I felt bad for the British teenagers behind us who didn't. Who were wearing white tank tops and were already self conscious about their "blossoming" bodies. Apparently in England there aren't many occasions to wear white tank tops without jackets so it never really occurred to the girls. I would have given them my rain poncho but since it was clear it wouldn't have really helped. I suggested to them to wear their backpacks on their fronts. They thought I was a miracle maker. Sadly no, but I had been an unprepared teenager in a white T-shirt in the rain before.

We finally make it up to the entrance. I was a bit worried that there would be a huge line inside as well so was glad to see that Ariel is right there at the entrance.

Her handler told the family behind the teenagers that Ariel had a lunch date with Sabastian and would be gone for an hour. Thank goodness Cindy and I made the cut. Yeah grumpy hungry Daddys! There was no way I would have waited another hour. Why they wait until you get up to the front to announce that. You'd think they would let the crowd know a half an hour ahead or something. Anyhow, we made it in.

Ariel spent a fair bit of time talking to us. I was impressed. She does a lovely job. But since we've now seen her I don't think I would wait to see her again.

Here are our photopass shots. I didn't bother to take any with my own camera.

After Ariel we popped into Tink's Treasures. Here is Cindy posing with a Cinderella Cookie. It was awful.

ab3bf2d9.jpg

Cindy got to wake up Tink and was quite enthralled by it. A lovely CM told her all about it.

"Mommy did you know Tinkerbelle is in the shop?"

Yes, I knew about it but I never dreamed that Cindy would be excited by it so I neglected to tell her. Of course I couldn't exactly say that to her could I? So I put on my fake but appearing to be genuine teacher's smile and exclaimed.

"What a wonderful surprise!"

We did buy Cindy a pair of shoes there. They were covered in a rainbow of sequins and well, I just couldn't resist. So yes if you are starting the count Cindy has one cookie and one pair of shoes ahead of the boys so far. She has worn the shoes once. Again to Dh's chagrin.

Then we found Snow White's wishing well. Nemo32 had a picture of it in her report and it was on my list of places to look for this trip.

I had to kick a couple who were using it as a drink holder while they were having a smoke break out so I could take the picture. I was a bit afraid to do it (they were rough looking) but there was another family behind me that wanted to take pictures there too. I asked them to stand with me if I went over and politely asked the smokers to move over. They said they had my back homey (LOL but that is what it felt like). Thankfully the smoking couple moved over to the side and grabbed their drinks off the fountain no problem. Potential gang territorial fight averted.

On our way to the buses I stopped in at City Hall to check on the status of the Luau that night. It had been cancelled the night before and I was nervous they would do it again. I tried to change our ADR's for another restaurant-you know one that has a roof and four walls to protect us from the storm but they wouldn't let me. So I left crossing my fingers that the Luau would go on tonight after all.

After that we headed back to POR and I did the laundry.

When I got back I found out that Dh had asked at the baby services area about our stroller. He was hoping someone would be able to fix it.

Finally some pixie dust because he got issued a free stroller for the day. Unfortunately it was dated today and we were done in the parks but I appreciated the idea behind it.

Dh was busy talking to people about the stroller. He called building services and they sent Dave from France up to see our stroller. Big shout outs to Dave because he wouldn't accept a tip from us and he fixed our stroller likity-split.

So the kids all played Lego (even Cindy because they had gotten these flower pieces so she made a garden), I did laundry and the other adults rested.

Notice my green mickeyhead in my window!

At some point Poppa pops his head in and wants to know if anyone wants to go swimming with him.

"Okay" says the other two.

"I'm not going to the big pool," says Eeoyre. He had told us he thought the big pool was too busy, too big, too far away and he doesn't do water slides. So in other words the "big Pool" had become a source of anxiety for him. We had some work to do on him before we could get him there.

I get the bathing suits out but Jedi won't change. Apparently he wants to go swimming and he wants to play Lego and he works his way into a fit deciding between the two. This shows Dh and I that he is really too tired to go swimming so we sneak Cindy through the connecting doors and Poppa and her take off themselves to swim.

We console Jedi by telling him he can go again later and start making "ohh" ing noises at his new Lego concoctions. It sounds easier than it actually was. Naturally there was a meltdown but I managed to get a small Lego man and Jedi into cuddle mode on the bed with Dh and watch some mind-numbing Stacy on TV.

Since he won't nap anymore this was the next best thing.

After 30 minutes or so Dh and I took the boys swimming too. Eeoyre was not happy about it. There was lots of muttering coming from him.

"The storm is coming and no one should be swimming. It's dangerous you know."

"You can't make me do this."

I took the reins on Eeoyre and I slowly eased him in the pool.

"I'll sit on the side but you can't make go in"

"Okay I'll put my feet in but you can't make me go all the way in"

"I'm only going in on the stairs here. You can't make me go near the water spray or the water slide"

A few minutes later I left him happily splashing away with Dh and Poppa while I popped down to the concierge desk to pick up our Luau tickets.

Up next did the Diamond clan make it to the Luau or did the weather shut the show down again? Click here to find out.http://www.disboards.com/showpost.php?p=28942944&postcount=395

We never got around to trying a Dole Whip. I'll put it on my list for next time. That list is already getting too big!
Yeah, mine too.

School bread
Grey goose slushie
Lapu lapu
Dole whip

Oh and Thanks for the popcorn lazydoxy66!

Welcome Maplegirl. It's still a thrill to get new readers. And thanks for the praise. I was walking on air while making dinner the other day after reading your note!

Dance stuff for the kids is going fine Thanks for asking. We are at the studio almost everyday. Eeoyre has two group numbers and two duets. Cindy it doing more competitive dancing this year. She surprised me the other day when I got to watch the beginning of her Ballet line (it's 32 girls in her company from ages 6 to 18). I thought watching Eeoyre do Ballet this summer would have fufilled all my ballet (dare I say needs or dreams because it really is all about the kids and the side effect is that I enjoy it too) wishes but when I saw Cindy up there I just melted. I can't wait to see them in costume doing the whole dance for real!

Also I am dancing this year. Tap dancing with the Mother's group. First time tapping for me but it is fun.

Laundry with coconut rum, love it. I was surprised it wasn't just on the rocks after the day you had. I know I was getting tired of the weather by the time we left.

Purplepeg I have learnt to put the bottle in the freezer and drink it straight when it is that cold. However, the freezers aren't big enough in those mini fridges.

Revenge, in any form, can be sweet, especially tempered with some Mickey waffles!!

By the way, I love the photo of you and Purplepeg. I follow her TR to so this was nice to see you two meet up!

Thanks Suz! I love that photo too!
I doubt if Dh will ever eat Mickey Waffles again!

Well, once again it's like one mind. I love laundry at disney! I

Mollyseven let's make a pact. I won't tell your Dh about our dirty (aka laundry) little secret and you won't tell mine okay?

I have to remember Laundry=alone time!!!!

Okay Paula we'll let you into the secret laundry pact too! Just remembered to be prepared. Bring a great book or a magazine, pack some snacks and grab a drink and of course the laundry and just make a run for it....... don't look back or they will see you smiling.

So did you like the Dole Whip????

Sadly Jo I did not partake in any. It's on my list at the top of things.

Coconut rum and laundry...heaven isn't it

coconut rum makes anything pretty heavenly Tnkrbelle565

What will I read in my free time at work?!

I'm back Nemo32 so I guess that means no work for you today.

I'm glad my TR inspired one of your photos. ;) It really is a great place for a photo and (most of the time) is pretty quiet and un-crowded.

AND DID I TELL YOU? I'm going back in January! Yay for more pictures by Cinderella's Castle! And another fun TR! :wizard:

You forgot about Ariel??? The shame :sad2:

Really cute update! I know the answer to whether you made it to the Luau but I won't ruin it for the others :rotfl:

Oh and if you are stopping at the drink booth in France for a grey goose slushie, get a grand marnier one too...they are fantastic as well!

DID I TELL YOU? I'm going back in January

No Nemo32 you didn't tell me you were going back but I forgive you anyhow. I did notice your new trip countdown ticker a while ago. Let me know when your TR goes up.

I know the answer to whether you made it to the Luau but I won't ruin it for the others

Yes, I am ahead of my trip report on facebook. I was going to add more to my facebook photos but maybe I will wait just to keep you Tnkrbelle565 in suspense along with everyone else.

Wow that was a long wait for Ariel but it sounds as though she was lovely :goodvibes

Glad you finally all managed to get a swim in :rotfl:

nice pictures of Ariel! Facebook hey? I'm on there too but very casually. I devote almost all of my time to here.:surfweb:

I just found your TR. We were there the 16th-23rd. All those moments you had trying to capture the magic but then getting frustrated: I was right there with you. It is so hard to keep happy when you envison for months plenty of sunshine, swimming, & happy "sitcom" family moments. We had a great trip but I really feel like I need a do over. I'm looking forward to reading more. popcorn::

:welcome:

You are right. The weather really did affect the happy "sitcom" moments. I like the way you phrased that.

As you probably already know the weather did get better for our last few days. Nanny was only with us from the 18-23 (well she left on the 24th but it was early in the am and none of us spoke with her) and she didn't get any of the better weather. Serves her right for leaving us.

nice pictures of Ariel!

Thanks purplepeg!

Glad you finally all managed to get a swim in

Hi Jo! You're leaving so soon! I hope you are doing at least a mini TR about your Disney Mom's Gig. I'm so excited for you!

It did feel strange to be in the bathroom in our hotel those first few days without tons of wet bathing suits hanging up.:laundy:

So I'll just kill the suspence and let you all know that we did indeed make it to the Luau. See here is our certificate.

20-Luaucertificate.jpg

They held it even though it was raining. The wind was light and apparently it is the wind that affects the firedancers not so much the rain.

Here is my only shot of the firedancer that turned out.

3f0d7766.jpg

So off I go to the lobby to collect my tickets.

It turns out that the guy at the concierge desk was a trainee. So it took me almost 30 minutes to get my Luau tickets from him. This was putting us behind in schedule.

We were going to the early show at 5:15. It is now 4:10 while I am heading over the bridge to the big pool to gather us the troops.

Guess who didn't want to leave the pool he was having so much fun?

That's right. Eeoyre. Now that he had let himself enjoy the big pool he was basking in the glory of it. Because no one was basking in the sunshine. Remember there was none. I know I keep harping back to this same point but when you go to the sunshine state you actually expect that there will be some. Sunshine. Somewhere. Someday. But not for us today.

I rounded up the troops and we changed into our Hawaiian getup. You know I couldn't have us going to a Luau wearing just anything. All outfits had to be pre-cleared before we even left our home back in Canada. Cindy and I even had flowers for our hair. We bought one for Nanny too but she lost it somewhere.

Anyhow we headed to the poly via bus and than monorail. Naturally in true Diamond clan fashion we just missed a MK bus. Someone was slower getting ready than the rest of us even when she didn't even go swimming with us and had the longest nap.

So at 5:20 I run off the monorail and check us in to the Luau ahead of the gang. We're still clear to go but we've missed the "pre-drink" opportunity. I had heard of a blue drink that was supposed to be quite good and had been looking forward to it. I was bummed until I asked the staff about it and they said it was off the menu now.

So what I'm saying is that I was stressed we were late, sad about a tropical drink I will never have and starting to worry about the whereabouts of the rest of my family.

They took so long I watched the lady giving out Lai's go through an entire cigarette while I waited for them.

Turns out that Jedi fell asleep (for real this time) in the stroller on the monorail. I hadn't noticed I was so busy being stressed watching the time. So they kept him in the stroller and were trying to figure out how to get to the Luau without using the stairs.

I gave up and went to sit at our table all by myself. It was a table for eight. Near the centre. I tried not to feel self-conscious. This is where I'm not so sure I could go on my own to Disney.

Finally they turn up. The food is served and I lift my birthday boy into my lap. We have a cuddle.

290c7494.jpg

The smell of the roasted meat awakens him. He is cranky until he spies the ribs. The boy decides that he loves ribs. He wants ribs for every birthday dinner. He sets a goal to eat 6 ribs because he is 6 today and is saddened when he can only consume 5. He decides it is because he has just turned 6 and in a few days when his body is used to being 6 then he will be able to eat 6 ribs in one sitting. It is logic that only a 6 year old can understand.

aad4ad4b.jpg

So while Jedi digs in with both hands, Cindy and Eeoyre balk and refuse to eat anything.

Here is Eeoyre making a pre-teen face at me.

ffc9e3f7.jpg

It is time to turn my attention to them. Oh wait, my wine arrives. If I can't have a tropical blue drink at least I can have a cold glass of wine. I slug some down, take a deep breathe and begin the food dance with the other two.

"How about if I take a piece right here from the middle?"

"No! It is still touching things"

"What if I cut you a piece of chicken from the inside of my piece?"

"No! You used your knife already and it will make the good meat spicy"

By this time I have finished my glass of wine and the waitress comes over to offer a refill. She notices the children's untouched plates and wonders if they would like a child's meal.

A child's meal? Why on earth would she not have offered that to us in the first place?

"Yes, thank you that would be lovely" I smile through my teeth.

The child's meals arrive and while the kids still do not really consume what would be considered an actual meal they pick and poke at their food and after two glasses of wine I am happy with it. They both eat some grapes and carrot sticks which satisfies Dh.

When the desserts come around Miss Cindy has a fit. She doesn't like chocolate. Don't they have anything else? Somehow Nanny gets Cindy to try some and within seconds the entire mound is devoured.

I ask our server if she could bring Eeoyre a volcano without the raspberry sauce and she quickly complies so Eeoyre follows suit and gulps up his volcano within seconds too.

During the meal we all watch the show. It is okay.

Nanny and Poppa took me when I was 13. Speaking of them here is a picture of them from the Luau.

46228c2e.jpg

I remember being picked to go up on stage and dance with them. I remember being amazed at the fire dancers. I don't think my kids will have the same fond memories. Yes, they liked it but they would be happy to go somewhere else. Especially if it had ribs!

I had heard they pull the birthday people up on stage so I had pre-warned Jedi. He was all set to go. However since it was raining (Had I mentioned the weather yet? It rained a lot) they were just to stand at their seats. Jedi is small so no one could see him. He did his birthday dance just the same though. Shook that little tushy of his.

After the Luau we walked through the Poly. I had wanted to book a family photo shoot for this night but I was glad I didn't. The weather wasn't great and with all the rain my hair was a frizzy mess.

Cindy did want her own personal photo taken on the beach. What a glamour girl!

84890e08.jpg

We headed back to the hotel and an early night.

While getting into his Pirate of the Caribbean Pajama's Jedi got quite upset.

"Those are 5 year old Pajama's. I'm 6 now. I need pajama's that say 6 on them". He was referring to the size chart on them. Actually they say small and once we convinced him of that he was fine but he hasn't worn those pajamas since that trip. He says they are for his little cousin now.

Up next Epcot and Dh's favorite food in the world. Click here for the next installment. http://www.disboards.com/showpost.php?p=28987417&postcount=405

Pity about the rain but at least the Luau wasn't cancelled, how cute is Jedi with the ribs and the PJ's :goodvibes

I pretty much feel the same as you about the Luau. I had some fond memories of it from when I was younger, but in September it just wasn't the same experience. At least your kids ended up having a decent time. And you got two glasses of wine out of it, so that's excellent!

I just have to say, I love your TR to death, but it stresses me out sometimes!!! I just want you to have one day where almost everything goes according to plan. I'll use some Disney wishing magic to hope that happens on your next trip :wizard:

Love Cindy's little Luau dress.

Thanks Nemo32. We took two with us (and their coordinating flower) but she decided on this one.

how cute is Jedi with the ribs and the PJ's

Thanks Jo. Why he was so concerned about those PJ's I just don't know. Especially when he is all about the fleece onsies with the feet from Target right now. They look very babyish but he doesn't care. He loves them.

I just have to say, I love your TR to death, but it stresses me out sometimes!!! I just want you to have one day where almost everything goes according to plan. I'll use some Disney wishing magic to hope that happens on your next trip

Alice BlueBonnet is back! I can't wait to hear how your trip went.

Disney was actually a breeze compared with a day like today where Dh is gone hunting so Nanny has come to help and we are juggling the Christmas parade (some of the kids are in it and need to be dressed and dropped off at different places) a Hockey tournament (Cindy's), babysitting some friends kids, racing to a store to pick up the Wii Fit (they were out by the time I got there), and making gingerbread houses.

Girl, my whole life never works out according to plan. I think I plan too much and just need to roll with the punches. It's hard for a type A like myself.

Glad you made it to the Luau okay. Looks like it's a TON of food....it's too bad you missed the blue drink. After that rush- I'm sure you needed it ;)
