A Funny Thing About My Post Count

So I put up three posts, two of them back-to-back, and noticed that they all have post number 268. Then I put up another one, and now they all have post number 269.

Does anyone know the cause? It's not that I care about the number itself, but it just struck me as funny to see 4 different posts with the same post number. An enquiring mind wants to know.

After the previous post, they have all gone up to 270!

I'm guessing after this post, they will all go up to 271.

Okay, now I feel silly and ridiculous. I noticed that others have the same thing happening. I thought that the post count goes up only on the new posts, not on all of them. You know, each post gets its own number.

I will now go to a corner of my computer room and hang my head in shame for wasting precious bandwidth.

If you're going to the corner to hang your head for wasting bandwidth, boy am I in trouble. I'm probably headed for the gallows.
