Hey all, thought you might enjoy this! My dear BIL works for Exxon and is currently working in Africa as they are starting to drill off-shore there. He is there for a month, home for a month and so on. Anyway, he just called my sister a few days after getting back to the worksite this time. As a treat Exxon took the guys on an African safari. He said "you see way more animals on the safari at WDW!!!" They rode around for HOURS looking for animals and barely saw a thing. That's why I love Disney so much, they control the SHOW for us!!! I will never go on a real safari, or even visit any of the countries represented at WS, but I can do it all at DISNEY!!!!!! Gotta love it.....Lacee

My best friend just got back from Disney and this was their first time in a LOOONG time and they went to AK and their exact words on the safari were "Well, we dont have to go to Africa now!" :p

Don't let my 'less-than-enthusiastic-about-WDW' husband read this post or he'll suggest we cancel our July trip to Orlando and just visit the city-centre Disney store/watch a few Disney videos/hire a Mickey Mouse costume instead!!

laceemouse - I think your story is funny (all that way to Africa to see the 'real thing' and Disney have done it better!) and I just got to thinking if it would work the other way.......could we 'do Disney' on our own home territory?? Just a thought...

My sister has done them both and was impressed by the WDW safari. She said it represented the various area from their safari nicely.

Having said that, she loved the African safari and would go again in a heartbeat. Besides all the animals they really learned a lot about life in these incredibly poor areas. I saw some of the movies of their trip and it was really fantastic. The part when the cheetah ate the gazelle that was bebobbing along not paying attention to his surroundings was a bit sad, but that is life in the real world. My sister and BIL went with a tour company that takes small groups so they really saw a lot and had a wonderful time.

Thanks for sharing this great story. I always say I have learned so much at Disney without really knowing I'm learning.

Thanks for all of your responses. I was kinda half kidding about myself, I really do enjoy visiting other places besides WDW. We will be in Williamsburg, Va. in June and I am really looking forward to it. I doubt we will ever make it to the REAL Africa though!
