A few weeks ago, I mentioned to you, my fellow podcast listeners, that I found out my company was bought out, and we all faced a very uncertain future. I was a bit of an incoherent wreck that night actually, nervous and stressed.

As I started looking into the job market, I came across the sad possibility that I might be looking at either a substantial cut in pay, or possibly a horrible commute (long enough that I'd spend a few nights a week at work rather than drive home every night). Combined with still not knowing much about my present job, I was definitely feeling pretty frustrated.

Well, last week a recruiter I have worked with over the years called to let me know a company wanted to bring me in for an interview. Needless to say, I was excited. As all of us at work have been talking amongst ourselves, I learned that a coworker and buddy of mine, was also interviewing there. (They have multiple openings at slightly different levels.) Thursday, I went in for my interview, and spent that afternoon explaining to him a bit about the company, and helping him get ready for his interview the following day.

We were both told that they probably wouldn't be able to determine anything until Monday, since a few key individuals were out until then. Friday night, just before 7pm, I got a phone call. Though the written offer would still have to wait for Monday, it was verbally confirmed they would match my current pay rate. I was also told that they might be interested in my friend as well. I immediately called him to let him know, figuring he might like to hear that things were looking good for him. As soon as he picked up the phone, he said to me, "Hey, did you just get a phone call as well?"

WOW! Never before have I come into work on a Monday feeling so completely stress-free :)

Oh yeah, and the new company is already aware that I have a planned vacation in January, for 9 nights, spanning across marathon weekend :)

Good news, I hope either you get the job or get to keep your current one after the merger/take over, whichever works best for you.

Where do you live, is it a small/smaller town? One of my friends is going through a similar situation in Harrisburg, PA. He is close to looking in Phily and dealing with the commute. As much as the Cleveland job market isn't a glowing example of possibilities it is nice being near a large enough city to have a wide range of possibilities.

Oh, we (yes, we) did get the jobs! :)

I live in central/northern NH. I commute to southern NH, right on the MA border, 88 miles. This new job will cut my commute down to about 84 miles :)

I can't imagine Harrisburg to Philly. I grew up just outside Philly, and know just how far that is.

Congratulations on the new job - and you get to save yourself 4 miles in the commute to boot!!!!:banana::banana:
