Very nice, Sandy. Thanks for sharing!!!!!! Never been there, sure would like to.

Nice pictures, Sandy!

Williamsburg is lots of fun. I'm waiting for my kids to be a little older to absorb the whole experience. Looks like you had a great time!

Great pictures - my wife and i toured Virginia a few year back and had a great time. Stayed on top of the blue ridge mountains - saw Nascar in Richmond - visited Bull Run - Williamsburg was great - and finished of in Norfolk.

jj........ ;)

We ended up somewhere in Norfolk...by mistake! :teeth: I was driving to Virginia Beach for the second time and missed the turn! Must have been in the wrong lane. Should have been on the inside lane to get there. We got a good look at some ships though! ;) I'm ready to go back...one way ticket.

Jason...We had a blast! :) Need to take a vacation much more often than we do! ;)

Dan...It's a great area to visit if you like the military and history. We visited Ft. Eustis, tried to visit Langley AF Base...but they weren't allowing the average person in. Interesting! Went to the Virginia War Museum...displays and info on the wars in chronological order. Great stuff! Williamsburg alone is worth the trip!! :teeth: And there's so much more to see.

Suzanne...I really enjoyed the trip. I hadn't been to Williamsburg in years! It's changed quite a bit since I've been there.

JJ...The Blue Ridge Mountains? Years ago my sister and I took a trip to Wintergreen. That's definitely a place I want to get back to!! Beautiful area!! ::yes::

Pin Wizard - we drove along Skyline Drive and stayed at Skyland for 2nts. Sorry it should have been SHENANDOAH NATIONAL PARK.

Still we had a great couple of nights up there.

jj....... :wave2:

Yup, Skyline Drive is gorgeous. I remember having a great time at Luray Caverns and at Stone Mtn., GA. But that was a different trip with my husband. ;)

LOL! I think everywhere in those mountains is dark at night. ;)

I lived two mountain ranges to the west of the Appalachians, and yes, it does get dark at night. I'm now an hour from getting on Skyline, and around here isn't as dark. It was great for star gazing at night.

I love Skyland! My dad, sister and I stayed there for Thanksgiving one year (one of many trips) and we got dumped with a foot of snow overnight. The car locks froze! We ended up hiking a short distance up to the lodge for breakfast. That's how my dad caught the hiking bug, LOL!

We are going to williamsburg/virginia beach in august. You have really whet my appetite.

Suzanne...You're making me jealous. I'll have to add that to my list of places to visit.

JetMom...Can I pleeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeease go with you?! :teeth:

Sandy,

Awww, go ahead and call and book it. You'll be glad you did. In the summertime, you can 'drive down the road a piece' to Big Meadow and go horseback riding. If you go the 2nd to 3rd week of October, the colors are beautiful...and don't forget to get down to Thornton Gap, go across 211 into Luray and check out the Caverns!

My departure has to be through New Market, even though it's out of the way, because Johnny Appleseed's apple fritters are a must have!

I always loved Skyline drive and trips remind me of the fun times with my dad and sister.

Horseback riding! I haven't done that since I was a kid!! I'd LOVE to do it!! Yup...have been to Luray Caverns. And I'd really like to go there again. I remember when we were in Stone Mtn., GA I think, DH and I went into a building and there was a scale. I got on and was okay with my number. Then he got on...he wasn't a heavy person...slim except for that beer belly. He broke the scale! I couldn't stop laughing over that one. And every time it came up in conversation some how, I would crack up again. It was just too funny. ;) That was a GREAT trip.

Stone Mountain is really nice, too. Loved the cable car ride to the top. Then we saw the laser show (this was in '84) and wanted the soundtrack from it, it was that good!

The horseback riding is good for those who've never been on, and was still fun for those of us who are more accustomed to being in the saddle. A good soak in the tub is what you'll want afterwards though!
