Hi Guys,

time is sure going fast since i signed up for this race, as a quick update ive managed to do 5 miles in 1hr 10 which i think is good for now. i was quite happy with that .... for now training still going on,

anyways i have a few questions for those that have run this race before

1) the chacters along the trail.... are they meetable in the party after the race? or is your only chance with them actually during the race?

2) people seem to want to avoid being in the last corral? whats the reason for not wanting to be in that corral?

3) this is my first rundisney race and on the site it says headphones can be used but they dont recommend it due to information being played throughout the race? do i need to hear those or am i safe listening to my music?

thanks in advance guys really excited :cool2:

First of all, great job on your miles!! You are halfway there :)

1.) Last year the characters that were on course were not the same as the ones in the park; that being said there were not many characters on the course compared to other races. I'll be curious to see this year if they add more entertainment on course ;)

2.) People try to avoid the last corral for various reasons, but mostly because they do not want to get "swept." After the last person goes over the start mat, the infamous balloon ladies start their march and anyone who cannot maintain the 16 min/mi will get swept. Getting into an earlier corral provides you a bit of a buffer zone between you and the balloon ladies :thumbsup2 Also, if you are a serious enough runner, getting into the proper corral helps you to run with people of a similar pace as you run.

3.) Disney has recorded announcements and CM's around making announcements at various places on the course- I remember they warned us about the speed bumps at Animal Kingdom and about the course narrowing at WWOS. They discourage headphones so that people actually hear these announcements and don't get hurt. I personally never wear headphones at a Disney race, there is so much going on around me I don't want to miss a thing :thumbsup2

Your welcome :thumbsup2

You know if you run a race that is a 10K or more, you can use that as proof of time and they will place you in the corral based upon your pace. If you do end up in the last corral, best bet is to get yourself as close to the front of the pack as you can!!

I think running the 10K's are awesome anyhow, it gets you practice before the Disney race :)

Hi thanks for your help.

sunday is my next personal test of pace and speed. will be doing 7 miles this week as a test for myself and im timing, cant wait. :thumbsup2

I do listen to music for parts of the Disney races and just turn the volume down when coming up on an announcement. There are stretches (esp in last year's ToT) when I need SOMETHING to keep my steps lively.

Great start, you are progressing!

1) No idea on the characters, glad others answered.

2) At your pace you don't want the last coral. You are now running 12 minute miles. Many in the last corral will be doing 15 - 16 minute miles, sometimes 3 and 4 abreast. You don't want to try to get around them. It irritates you and them.

3) Do not listen to music in a Disney race. There is too much stuff going on that you really do not need music. There will be people all around you, just enjoy the race. I have used them in other races where you are in the middle of nowhere so I am not against using music but you really don't need it at Disney. Remember, you paid for this experience, don't block it out.

enjoy,
Duane
