Well, I've been a forum member for a while now, and I'm a bit curious - exactly HOW do you view your dvc resort of choice?

For me, it's the familiarity of the resort overall, but not locked into a certain room, a bit of variety in style, in views when you pull the balcony door open :D

Now, I already do know for some it is the exact same room, every time you go. I mean no offense, but, to me that would get dull rather quickly. to have the exact same scene, I might as well stay home. To us, it is the flexibility in going to different dvc resorts, or a different room in our home resort, to have some freshness every trip. Hand in hand with the assurance of a vacation at Disney every year. I would like the opportunity to see how others view it. :D

Well, I'm not sure that I completely understand your Q.
My wife and I get into a sort of groove, and stick to it. We have stayed at The Poly something like 9 times in the last 10 years. We currently don't see ourselves staying anywhere but VWL, VB, The Poly, and AKL. We really enjoy the more heavily themed WDW resorts such as these. We will never abandon The Poly, we will just stay there less days (even though I don't care for the 'new' landscaping behind The Great Ceremonial House).

I'm still not sure I got your question right!

Yes, you did, that's exactly the kind of answers I'm looking for, Thanks! Just visited the Poly, the new Kona Cafe is goregous, and one of the house specials, Teriyaki Beef Salad, is just plain incredible! :D

Try to be detailed and descriptive on how you you use the DVC resort of your choice, and what thought process is behind it - I know it's deeep questions, I'm just trying to understand others viewpoints on DVC. Something a little different to do :D

We originally purchased at OKW with the idea that we would stay at other resorts half the time. We have so much enjoyed the lower points and variety of scenery at OKW, that we have yet to stay at any of the other DVCs! I am not tied to any one room. Every area of OKW is nice and different, but we do like the South Point area on the quiet end of the complex. But then, we love the views from the Miller's Road area homes too!

We are fairly new DVC members and will experience our first trip home in a little less than a month and I am very excited. Our home resort (HH) is wonderfully relaxing and peaceful. I am really looking forward to kicking back and taking it easy while we are there. On the other hand, I did not purchased DVC to stay at one resort only every year. We do plan to spend the majority of our vacations at Hilton Head but certainly not all. I think all the DVC resorts hold a certain charm depending on what one is looking for with that particular vacation and as I contemplate our trips over the next few years, I see how different resorts will fill those needs.

This year we're spending a few days at Hilton Head and then Thanksgiving at OKW. I am really looking forward to trying OKW. It gets such great reviews on this board. DH will enjoy it because he won't have to be reminded too much he's at Disney and I'll be happy to be near Downtown Disney for all my shopping needs :) . Next year DH wants to go to VB (long weekend) for our anniversary and at the end of the year we hope to close out 2003 with a week at Hilton Head. In 2004 several family members want to accompany us to Disney so we'll probably book several rooms in late August at WLV because we'll be spending most of our time at the MK so that seems the most convenient.

I absolutely love my DVC and look forward to sampling all the resorts including any new ones that come on-line in the future. It's so much fun (for me at least) to dream and plan of future trips. I also enjoy the challenge of making our points stretch as far as possible as I try to resist the urge to add on. ;)

I love DVC because of the choices...the variety in what we can do with our points. So far we've only stayed at our home resorts on our points...but will be using them at OKW for a few days on our next trip too. Next year we want to try the BCV for a couple nights. I love trying out all different places, room sizes, views....

I never thought I'd want a certain room repeatedly...but the standard view 1br we had in Jan. was perfect and we will be requesting that room every time we stay in a standard view 1br (like next Oct after the BCV.)...honestly, I know its best not to request by room #...but if we don't get that exact room I don't really care where they put us! But our love of this room is not going to change our plans to stay at other resorts too.

Its all an adventure!

I love all the options, even though we rarely take advantage of them! We have 5 boys under 12 and the convenience of both our home resorts (BWV and BCV) makes staying in other resorts not really a practical choice right now. That said, however...
we have used our points for a Disney cruise, and plan to do so again in a couple years. This December, just the two oldest boys and I are going for a long weekend and staying at the Contemporary.
I love the planning and anticipation of our Disney vacations, and looking at all our options each time. I do not have special room requests, and like you, prefer variety.
Since getting everyone in and out of the car (okay, the van) can be a trial, I love that at BWV and BCV I don't have to do that every day of our stay. I really like having lots of entertainment within walking distance, and think the boys might be a little bored at a resort farther from the action.
Mainly, I value the options.

I like the DVC for the variet of experiences it offers. DH and I have OKW as our home resort, and we do love it there. I am not tied to any one room, but as you said, I do like to stay in the different areas of the complex, and get the different "feels" throughout the complex. The area nearest to Conch Flats is a little busier, while the areas farther out are a little more secluded. Each has its charm, and we have stayed in the complex several times over the last 5 years, always in a different area, and have enjoyed each one.

I also like the flexibility of being able to go to a different resort. We have been to the BWVs and the BCVs (not the VWL yet, but maybe next year!) and enjoyed our stays there as well.

I would have to say that the flexibility has the most appeal for me.

We bought into OKW with the idea that it was our home away form home.
I absolutely love opening the front door and knowing that every single time I enter the 2 bedroom it will be the same.
I know where everything is and dont have to search.
Im NEVER bored staying there.

Let's see I have own at VWL and BCV. I purchased my initial DVC one year ago. I have been to HH, and are going on the Disney cruise and BCV next week. I like the flexibility. I know the majority of my stays in the end will be at BCV and VWL but I am looking forward to staying at all the other resorts in the near future.

I also love DVC for the variety of choices we have. Although I have used 95% of my pts staying at my home resort BWV, I have also used pts to stay at other DVC resorts and am anxiously looking forward to staying at BCV and also making a trip to HH. I choose to stay mostly at my home resort when at WDW because the location and atmosphere of this resort is unbeatable. It's so convenient and for me it is definitly my favorite WDW resort, but I have never requested a certain room number, a certain view or area of the building yes, but never a certain room. I don't mean to be critical but that is being a little on the anal side.

So far we have stayed in two bedroom at OKW in building 27.... loved it..... We have stayed at the BWV in a one bedroom prefered view and loved it.... we have stayed at HHI in a Grand Villa and loved it.....

Each resort is so unique....... that is the draw for us. We dont care where we stay (room location) just that it is in a DVC resort...

With that said we also love the Poly..... and plan on tacking on a couple of days there or a couple of days at AKL on each trip... once the kids get a bit older.... Each resort on WDW property has its own feel..... and through DVC we plan on seeing and doing it all!!!!!!!

We love discovering new things.... and spreading our time around the world is a great place to do it.... it keeps it all fresh, yet makes it all seem like home.

Does that make sense??
