Hi everyone,
Still out here in very sunny Florida, to be honest a mixed trip so far.
Josh, as may of you know is Autistic, he also has Epilepsy which we keep under control with a 'wonder drug' and hasn't had any attacks for nearly 3 years, however he is still vulnerable if he is extremely tired - unfortunatley this happened 5 hours or so into our flight, we were delayed by an hour and he didn't get the best night's sleep also.
He had a minor convulsion and managed to get a little sleep before we arrived, however we were relieved when we finally arrived and fortunatley our 1st night was at the Hyatt MCO so within an hour or so we were in our room -great hotel with excellent service.
Our 3 night stay at the Boardwalk was enjoyable, however Joshua's sleeping pattern was all over the place and he was up at 2 or 3 am each morning, he is generally a very early riser anyway but to be honest we felt uncomfortable with people next door in case we woke anyone up.
In addition the weather has been extremely hot, temperatures in the low to mid 90s.
To be honest we didn't make the most of our stay there, although we enjoyed Spoodles and I had a couple of walks down to the ESPN Sports bar, met a guy from Detroit one night and had a great evening there.
Despite having been in August before, the heat has affected our theme parks days and to be honest we have only managed 2 hour spells each time so far.
Liked the Boardwalk overall but was slightly dissapointed in the room, where the furniture appeared in need of replacement, curtains were very dirty, broken wine glasses next to the kitchen sink when we first arrived and 2 of the cooking rings did not work, I can fully appreciate why people stay on site though and we had a good look around the nearby Beach Club and have also been to Saratoga Springs today and loved it there.
We did find the walk from the car park to our room (number 3105) at the BWV a bit tiring sometimes after a long day and the appeal of the SSR with the ability to be able to park right outside is a big plus we think.
Haven't spent too much time at Universal, to be honest Josh hasn't wanted to go on many of his favourite rides
must be the heat I presume, also doesn't help when some of the rides do not open till 10am, you get there early to avoid the worst of the heat and many of the rides are shut!!
Went to Typhoon Lagoon and Josh got extremely upset and stressed, so we only stayed an hour...2 visits to MK so far and 1 evening stroll around EPCOT.
MK we took advantage of the EMH and had a great hour or so around Fantasyland but had a slight argument with 2 CMs whilst waiting for Julie to come off the Stitch ride - Josh had fallen asleep (still adjusting his sleeping pattern) , now we have a small wheelchair because although he is perfectly mobile he cannot walk long distances, in addition we have an oversize stroller too (both free form Mobility/DLA benefits) - we took the stroller as it was more compact and although Josh is comfortable in it I guess strictly speaking he is getting too big for it now (not that you do not see many kids in strollers at the parks).....cue a few questions from a stupid CM, "is he asleep already....why is he in a stroller....isnt he a bit too old now"....my responses grew louder and less polite and I decided to walk away rather than punch him!!
Then, just outside the Pirates ride, I slept on the damp cobblestones and fell on my back & head, after being up in the air for a few seconds, shaken and slightly bruised we left.
Have attempted to get Josh into a restaurant so we can dine out as a family, however he wouldn't go in Golden Corral or Bob Evans - as a result we have cancelled all our ADR bookings.
We are now at Indian Creek and it's a lovely villa, have been to the Outback 3 times so far, I go on on my own have a Bud at the bar and get a take-out , we have really enjoyed it here...whilst the holiday has been okay and I guess more of a relaxing one we have struggled whilst outdoors and particularly at the parks where Josh hasn't wanted to go on rides that normally he loves.
In addition whilst we are into our 17 night villa stay, I have found the evenings a bit boring as we have not (as usual) been able to go out much as Josh is winding down for bed by 19:00, whilst we have always had this 'problem' and always been okay with it I have been a bit bored in the evenings to be honest.
Having said all that, Josh loves the villa, we have a collection of US format Blues Clues videos for when he is relaxing and he loves the pool (as he always does).
Whilst we already have a booking for next July , to be honest it's just far too hot for us (especially Josh).
