Hi we are thinking of going to WDW in Aug for 7 nights, we want to drive, 2 adults and 5 kids.

What will the cost of gas be? How long will it take? Where is the best place to stop over for the night half way through?

Has anyone ever done a home swap for a trip to WDW? Any idea where to meet up with people interested in that sort of thing?

Also any idea or experience with using Aeroplan miles for park passes?

Any other tips, tricks or ideas on making this trip fun and affordable are welcome!!

thanks

thanks, it calculated my fuel cost at $284 and my guess was around $300 each way, so I will budget $700 for the round trip.

You didn't say which route you will be driving and where you live.

To save money on your drive pack a cooler. Have all your meals, drinks and snacks. This also saves you time on stops.

When we do the drive we make the first day about 18 hours. That way the next day is short and we can sleep in a little if we want to. Also, pick a hotel that includes breakfast. You can get a decent room for about $65.

Just had another thought.....

Is this gas price in USD? Did you add in the cost from home to the city you used for the calculation and back?

You could probably get flights(from a US boarder city) for the same amount of money when you factor in the added cost of hotels. With 7 people you will need 2 rooms both southbound and northbound. The rooms will cost you at least $240 + tax. The cost could be much higher depending on your choice of hotel.
