A few questions about transportation for off site guests, specifically regarding DHS/Epcot and DTD.

We are staying offsite. Can we use the bus system? Here's the deal. One day we are going to DHS in the AM, then Epcot in the afternoon. So we'll park at DHS in the morning. Would it be easier to take our car and drive over to Epcot or would the boat or bus be easier. We'll be hot and tired, maybe a nice boat ride would be relaxing. But would driving be faster than either of those? Also wondering about getting back to our car when it's time to leave for the day.

Also are there buses between the parks and DTD? Specifically AK and DTD? We really want to go to DTD but the current parking situation has pretty much stamped the thought of that out. However if there is a bus and it won't take forever in a day, maybe that's an option?

From what I remember, there is no bus that go from any park to DTD. We were there last week and got to DTD around 10 a.m. and had no problem finding parking. You may use any of the Disney bus, boats and/or monorail. We stay off-site and have used all forms of transportation. We arrive well before rope drop and have use Disney transportation instead of driving to keep front row parking but driving your car would be faster.

Offsite guests are welcomed to use any WDW transportation for free.

I would, however, move my car to DHS. I wouldnt want to have to find a way back to it when it is late and we are tired.

There was a test bus from AK to DTD that ran for a few months but I believe it has been stopped. You would have to drive to DTD if you wanted to go there.

Yes, I think they stopped testing the AK/DTD bus. If you want to go to DTD without having to deal with the parking mess it might be worth it to take the 5 minute bus ride from AK park to AKL resort, and then take the bus from AKL to DTD. Of course AK tends to close quite early, so you wouldn't be able to go back and retrieve your car after a late night Downtown.

You should have no problem taking the bus/boat from Epcot to DHS! The bus is quicker and goes to the Epcot main entrance, while the boat is a bit slower and goes to the International Gateway entrance in the World Showcase between the UK and France pavilions. Again, the logistics of this plan would depend on each park's closing time that day.

As the PP said, off-site guests are welcome to use the Disney transportation. So you can easily boat to Epcot from DHS. The one limitation is that the boats stop running one hour after the theme park closes. So if DHS closes before Epcot, make sure to be at the boat dock no later than one hour after DHS closes. Otherwise, you can take the boat to S/D and then walk to DHS.

In theory, the boat ride takes about 25 minutes to ge from DHS to Epcot. It stops at S/D, YC/BC, and then BW/BWI before going to Epcot. I sure like the boat better than walking (about 1.1 miles).

No, they tested a limited bus route between AK and DTD last year, but it was not extended nor reinstated. So at this point, the only options are to either take a taxi, drive your car, or go to one of the resorts and take a bus from there (just note that you cannot park you car at the resort while you go to DTD).
