A few questions about SOG

I contacted SOG via email and they confirmed that we can stay there. My kids are ID carrying dependents of a retired military member (my ex husband). I am just wondering a few things about SOG.
1. I couldn't find any info on rates online. I'm not planning a trip any time soon but I'd like to figure out what to aim for the future. Does anyone know about how much rooms cost there.
2. Do you still get to take advantage of Disney transportation and EMH while staying at SOG?
3. Does Magical Express service SOG?

TIA for your answers! Liz

the rates depend on the rank of the sponsor(your ex). You should be able to find them at shadesofgreen.org

You will be eligible for EMH. You have almost all the same perks as other on-site guests. You won't be able to charge things to your room key and you won't be able to use Express service from the airport. Last I heard, SoG did not have a transportation service from the airport.

Lizzy, I'm so glad you asked and found out. Good for you! Can't help first hand with your other questions..just wanted to let you know how glad I was for you.

No magical express.

EMH's are applicable as well as transportation. You are a short walk from the monorail at the poly and SOG has busses.

What you pay per night is based on you ex husbands rank. You may want to call them (they have an 800 #) if the dependents are under 18 I'm not sure about how they would sponsor a room as they are not old enough to have a room in their name.'

Good luck!

They said the reservation would be in my ex's name but the kids would but it's ok as long as the kids have ID's. When I emailed them I let them know that my kids were the only one's with military IDs and my ex husband, the military retiree, would not be traveling with us. So I'm thinking it would be fine, they didn't ask the kids' ages so it doesn't seem like that's an issue.

And THANKS DMRick, it may just make the difference of being able to take my kids back and maybe even treat my parents instead of vice versa :teeth:

If you go to the main SOG page, at the top, below the picture, you will find a toolbar........Who are we, eligibility, etc. Place your cursor on the Help and Information link. Under that will pop up a list and click on PDF Download Section. Here you have links to not only room rates, but ticket prices for all parks as well as resort layout.

Since your husband is retired military, you would fall under catagory 3. Unlike most resorts where poolside means you are simply facing the pool, here it means you are on the groundfloor facing the pool, so you simply exit your sliding glass door and have a short walk to the pool. (unless things have changed since my last visit). The sliding glass door locks once it is closed, so to get back in, you must go through one of the main doors down the hall to get to your room. It is convenient having a pool room if you go to the pool alot. Thye used to not charge extra for this sort of view, but I guess wherever they can make more money.

Keep in mind that each year in Oct, the rates usually increase by about 2 or 3 dollars. You will truly enjoy your vacation. It;s a benefit your kids deserve and should be used. Buy your tickets at SOG for savings. Utilize the Garden Gallery........they have wonderful breakfast buffets with everything you could imagine to eat for breakfast....and at a wonderful cost. You won't find this kind of pricing anywhere in the World. You can make reservations for your room one year in advance. Enjoy.

Good for you Lizzybee, I'm so glad you're going! I agree with Sleepy, your kids are absolutely entitled to SoG and you should absolutely take advantage of it!

I'm sure SoG runs into this more than once, and can guide you. You can't have the first eligible kids under the age of 18, and be booking a room..I'm betting there have been other kids, whose mom and dad are divorced, or whose dad is serving overseas, and just the kids and mom can go to Disney. In regular Disney rooms, you can use a child under 18's AP rate, and that room isn't in their name, so I'm sure you will be fine.
Have a great time.

One thing I'd caution you about is keeping notes about everything you discuss with them (specifically regarding the reservation being in your ex's name). I've encountered a few employees who seem to 'make up' answers off the cuff rather than actually finding out the correct one.

Oh, one other thing... if you have free long distance and want to ask a simple question like that, call the main number rather than the toll-free reservations number and you'll get an answer MUCH quicker!

When are you going? I hope that your children and you have a great time!

We just got back from Disney, so unfortunately I'm not planning on going back soon. I'm just trying to figure out what my options are so when I try to save up I know what to aim for. I'm not sure if we'll stay at SOG or not, my kids are sooo in love with POR that I may just postpone things another 6-8 months and go that route. Just trying to figure out how I can do it. Thanks for all the answers and supports you guys are awesome :cheer2:
