A few questions about POFQ

My youngest was watching an older Disney video. We ordered our new video a month ago and still haven't received it.

He saw the pool for POFQ and was so excited. He wanted to stay there.

I have already booked at Coronado, but had a few questions about Port Orleans French.

Is it quiet? My friend told me that you could hear other guest and they hardly got any sleep while staying there.

Also, is the only way to get around without a car via the bus system? We're debating on whether to rent a car. We have no plans to go off Disney property. We'll go off Disney property when we visit Orlando the next time.

Are the rooms bigger than the value resorts? My other friend liked All Star Music and said it's not worth spending $40 more a night or more for a moderate when they are pretty much the same sized rooms only more expensive.

Thanks for any help you can give me.

Only 10 months to go. lol.

I have stayed at POFQ several times and once during Christmas week - a very busy time. I never found it to be noisy. I found it to be quite peaceful. The bus system was excellent. The resort was not so spread out so the food court and bus stop was very accessible. The beignets at the food court are awesome! The rooms are slightly larger than the value resorts (I have stayed at ASSp). I much prefer the FQ. I found the ASSp very noisy!!!

Thank you for answering. After seeing some photos of POFQ I think I'll call and change my reservation. I wish I didn't have to wait 10 months to go though. :)

Thanks.

Heidi

I think the FQ is at least 50 square feet bigger than the all-stars, with a bigger bathroom/double sink. We always had a seperate bench in our room, too, which I don't think the all-stars have, but I've never stayed at a value so I'm not positive

We have stayed at all three AllStars, POR, and CRB. Our next trip in April we're staying at POFQ. We are staying here not because of the rooms, but because the Allstars were booked solid.

The moderate rooms are slightly larger than the value rooms. The bathrooms are a little nicer. The grounds and pool areas are much nicer (maybe more grown-up and sophisticated is more correct) - although I think the AllStar and POP theming is cute.

The food courts are comparable, most moderates have a sit down restuarant (POFQ does not), the value resorts do not have anything other than the food courts.

There is some debate over transportation - do the higher priced hotels get more frequent busses ? I don't know about that. It is true the higher priced hotels have bus stops at the parks which are closer to the gate than the the value hotels.

I believe the price difference between value and moderate is $40 to $50 a night depending on the season.

We (2 adults, 2 children) generally stay at the value resorts because most of our time is spent in the parks and not hanging around the resort. We believe our money is better spent on things other than the room.

I don't think you can go wrong at any of the onsite resorts, just a matter of finding one that meets your needs and budget.

Have a great trip.

Jeff

ps. A lot of people do complain about the unique setup of the food court and specifically how beverages are handled at the Coronado. Many people do not like the mandatory tipping for drinks. I think that is unique for the Coronado, I don't know of any other Disney food court that works this way. That may be another reason to switch to POFQ or one of the value resorts.

There is/was boat transportation to downtown Disney and PORS (Dixie landings) Everywhere else is by Bus. The longest we waited was 10 minutes for a bus. The only time the bus was full was at the park closing times.

One of the really nice things about the Port Orleans resorts is your ability to use both Riverside and French Quarter. The walk between the two isn't bad at all, and you can utilize the pools, the food courts, Boatwrights (sit-down restaurant) and anything else you want!

If you don't want to walk you can take the bus or the boat.

My daughter and I stayed at POFQ Christmas week 2002... and it was quiet. However, that may have been because we were at the end of a building. The only thing we heard in the evenings was the boat running between the two resorts.

We didn't have a car, but LOVED the boat to Downtown Disney. Also, loved the fact that we were the first people to get on the bus to the parks (before the POR folks).

Didn't have a problem with the food court (other than being a bit limited in food choices), but you do also have the option of eating over at POR.
