Hello. We are staying at the FW cabins in August. I have a few questions. Does anyone know of good fishing spots for my husband? We are doing the guided tour, but he'd also like to fish around the resort. Also, for people on the dining plan: what do you do for quick service meals since there seem to be none at the fort? I was thinking of going to other close by resorts like port orleans, or is that going to be a pain? We are renting a car so we won't have any transportation issues. Anyone know of cabins or loops to avoid?

Thanks,
Melissa: yay:

:welcome: To the Boards!!! If you got questions about fishing, Frank will be able to help you out! :thumbsup2 Be patient, He'll be along soon!

frank must be makin' donuts... he is slacking today. normally he'd be here by now. lol

Yeah, normally Frank would have been here in all CAPS by now. :lmao:

Seriously, they have a limited CS menu at the Meadow Pool Snack Bar (sandwiches, etc) and in August it will still be hot so the pool will be staffed and you can pick us something there. What most Fort people do is catch the bus/boat to Wilderness Lodge or boat to the Contemporary to get a counter service meal.

2200 Loop is the cabin loop closest to the Meadow Pool and Trading Post.

I've never done the DP but this is what I've heard people say.

PS-Of course, Frank will tell you ANY place in the Fort is a good place to drop a line! :worship:

FRANK!!!! Yoo Hoo!!! Where are you? Boy you picked a bad time to take a nap. Maybe he is out fishing?!

He'll be along shortly, my turn at the computer. :lmao:

i think denise has him tied up with the fishin' line. lol

i can see it now.. he probably even has a bobber in his mouth. :)

Afternoon all !

Melissa,,WELCOME to the boards,:thumbsup2

So hubby wants to fish,,well he aleady sounds like my kinda guy.
We have fished the Fort in Aug. and I can tell you that day fish'n is gonna be HOT, and the catch'n part could be a little on the slim side. Due to the heat the big bass and crappy are gonna in a little deeper water, also just because it's hot, fish tend to be less active. However, thats not to say that you won't catch fish, but the quality and quanity tend to be a little less.
I honestly like to get out and be fishing by 4:AM/4:30AM til sun up..the fishing is fair in the dark and morning, then it leaves the day to do the parks.

The Guided Excursion is a good idea in Aug. cause the guides know where the fish are and can put you on the fish. I really like the Guided Excursions.

Fish'n on his own,,stay off the beach areas and stay OFF THE DOCKS.
Bring plenty of lures, expect to loose some to the water grasses. I bring a variety of lures,,I tend to be a impatient fisherman, if a lure doesnt get hits quick, I change to another.

The 300 loop canal and where the 300 loop canal meets the lake, is a popular fishing.
You can however fish ANY canal or pond in the Fort and the Bay Lake.(stay off the docks)
If you don't mind wading somewhat to get beyond the grasses, then I like to fish the shore between the Fort going toward Wilderness Lodge.

Catfish'n,,try the ponds

.Happy fishing to you and hubby !:fish::fish:

One more thing,, if you fish with nightcrawlers,,DO NOT buy them from Disney $$$,, they are not Magical,, they will not catch more fish.Stop at a Wal Mart and buy some.(if you can)

And remember,,it is Florida,,
Florida has gators and snakes.

Thanks for the advice everyone. Frank, thank you for your suggestions. Hubby wants to know if you suggest any certain lures. He is mostly interested in catching bass. They are a lot bigger in Florida than the ones we catch here in New York.

We drove to Port Orleans French Qtr a few times during our trip last month. It was a quick drive and easy to park & get in there. Not the best food but not the worst either.

As for your question about the Food, the nice thing about staying at the cabins with a car is that your car is parked right outside your door. I don't find it to be a pain to drive anywhere when I don't first have to schlep across a parking lot to find my car.:)

Its a very easy drive to POR and POFQ. If you are willing to drive a little further DTD has Wolfgang Puck Express and Earl of Sandwich:cloud9:

Some other good CS are at POP and CSR, but they are more of a drive.

For locations immediately accessible by Fort transportation, the small boats at the Marina will take you to WL and CR. We also like Captain Cook's at the Poly:thumbsup2
