Actually johare, I think the Star Wars Preview pulled in a lot of people opening weekend.
the fact that its a good movie could bring the regulars back for a second showing.

True, Johare. That plays out for Shek's overall numbers. Shrek did $42m opening, it repeated that the next week. It ended with 6.3 times its opening weekend in total US gross.

Recent multiples for Disney and Disney/Pixar films:

Toy Stroy 2 - 4.3x
Atlantis - 4.1x
Emporers New Groove - 9.1x
Tarzan - 5.0x
A Bug's Life 4.9x

Assuming that Monsters, Inc. gets 4.5x in total (I'm hoping for more, I think the word of mouth is fantastic right now) it would finish with about $290 million.

Even with the stiff competition I'm hoping for a strong Thanksgiving weekend.

Even though I like Shrek better I'm hoping Monsters does really well for Disney. If they match the 4.3x that TS2 had they'll wind up with $270 million. However while I hope that Monsters does will financially (for Disney's sake), I hope that Shrek takes the Oscar next year!
