we're less than a month away now, and leave even earlier than that for the US, so...
a few questions:
-- can i put a limit on the amount my kids can charge on their key cards?

-- i'm somewhat concerned about the fact that the safe is opened by the key card......that doesn't seem very safe to me.....do the workers master keys also open the safes?...if so, what's the purpose of a safe?

-- we just finished reading all of the documents (don't you just love legalese?)....we noticed that you can check valuables with the master....has anyone done this?...

You cannot place a limit on your kids KTTWC -- if you cannot trust them to be responsible with the card I would not give them charging privledges. But, if you just want to keep a close watch on it -- you can request a printout of all of your accounts each day at guest services.

The only card that opens the safe is the one that has locked it. Another words -- if DH locks the safe and then is off on his own and cannot be reached DW cannot open the safe without DH's card. I'm not sure about the crew having master type cards that will open the safe? I've never heard of that capability before.
:)

The crew has a mastercard for the safe. On our first cruise I inadvertently closed the safe's door when I brushed by with a big bag - It locked itself after some time and we weren't able to open it with either of our roomkeys. I called our stateroom hostess and she had her superior open the safe.
But I think most hotels have masterkeys for their conventional safes - for YOUR safety.

We left everything in the safe, didn't use the master's safe.

i'm not worried about my kids spending....i'm worried about them losing their cards and then someone else using it...

actually the same can be said about a key opening the safe...
in a traditional hotel safe that's opened by combination, even if someone steals your room key they can't get into your safe...
but with this set-up someone can steal your key and get into your safe as well....
seems like a less than secure arrangement...

Your room numbers are not printed on your KTTWC so someone would have a hard time finding which room the card belonged too. Also -- when you charge something they put your kttwc thru their computer then ask which room you are staying in. All of your info shows up in their computers and you are verifying your room# to them. ALSO will show up your birthdate. So if an adult tries to use your kids kttwc to charge --- it would be pretty obvious that they are not children.

If at any time you realize that your kttwc is missing -- just notify guest service immediately and they will cancel the card and issue you a new one.

Is their procedure completely safe and no chance of error? NO, but I think it is just about as safe as they can make it.
:)

You don't have to use your KTTW card to lock the safe, you can use any card with a magnetic strip on the back.

For example, on our last cruise in January, one time I used my Driver's License and another time I used a credit card to lock the safe, and another time I used my KTTW card, I moved it around.

I think it's much better that the CMs have a way to get into the safe with a 'master key card'. Suppose you use the safe and then inadvertently lock it when you leave to go home. Sure, the safe is empty and does not have your valuables in it anymore, but how does the next guest get access to the safe, for their purposes? Should they replace the safe and bill it to your credit card? Should they have it drilled out and then replace the lock mechanism, and bill it to you? Nope, much easier and cheaper to have a 'master key card', and only use it with discretion.

I don't know this for sure, but it would not surprise me at all if they have a data printout of when the safe was opened, just like they can tell when a door was opened and by what KTTW card. It would only take one additional pair of wires (installed when the ship was built) to detect when the safe was locked and unlocked, but I doubt that they could identify the magnetic stripe used, unless it was one of theirs.

hope that helps

My DD and Ds found the arcade and charged about $20 each on their card so I blocked charging privileges and just would let them use my card with my permission and my presence. We had a hard time with the safe. I would forget which KTTW card I used and then would use them all and then it wouldn't open. I called Guest services and they came promptly. My suggestion is to use a credit card and you won't forget. HAve fun!!!
