A few ADR question

OK have had all my ADRs booked for some time now but as we get nearer to our trip, have a few things we're unsure off. This is the 1st time we've been since 2006, so new to this whole ADR thing.

Firstly, how soon before your ADR should you get to the restaurant?

If for some reason you're a little late (which l plan not to be!), how long will they hold your slot?

And finally (this one might be a little silly:rolleyes1), what happens when you have an early ADR for before the park opens. And does staying offsite make any difference to that?

1 - they tell you to arrive 15 minutes ahead of your time, I think that's written right on the confirmations.

2 - don't know how long they will hold your spot. I've heard 15 minutes.

3 - this question I don't really understand - what do you mean "what happens"? You are let into the park early with a pre-opening ADR and you go to the restaurant - that's about it. Off site or on site doesn't impact that.

That's great thanks for the quick reply.
And yes l meant are you just let in early, l didn't explain that very well. Just didn't know if it was anything like emh, as in a perk of staying onsite.

I've also heard they will hold your ADR for 15 minutes, but...if it's a very popular restaurant or a place that is running well behind schedule you could forfeit your reservation without the 15 min grace period.

I've been looking for an answer among threads, so I'll just ask it here since it seems related:

1)if you suddenly can't make a rez, how far in advance must you cancel? I read a thread where someone said they charge you. But wouldn't there be 15 more people waiting to take your table?

2) If I book for 5 people but end up with only 3 one time (for example), will they seat 3 of us or is it possible to lose the whole thing due to specific table sizes?

I ask because little kids get sick, tired, etc and this is my first time with a kid in the park. It was sooooo much easier as a free-wheeling single adult. I'd eat dinner at 9pm and never need a rez.

Cancel as soon as you know you won't be using the reservation as a courtesy to others. At some restaurants, the reservation list is printed early in the day so even if there's a long line of walk ins, they may not get a table if you wait until the very last moment. If it is one that required a credit card guarantee or you paid in advance then there is a deadline, usually 48 hours before the reservation where you will have to cancel or there will be a no show fee (e.g. Cali Grill, Fantasmic package, Akershus) or you will lose the full prepayment (e.g. CRT, dinner shows).

2) If I book for 5 people but end up with only 3 one time (for example), will they seat 3 of us or is it possible to lose the whole thing due to specific table sizes? Not a problem at all. It's much easier to show up with fewer than to add extra people. The restaurants understand that people get ill or some of a party can't come. Again, though, if you know in advance and it's a prepaid or no show credit card guaranteed ADR, reduce those by the number not coming.
