Having read the blogs and viewed the pics, we did not expect to be seated by the windows, but as we were escorted into the restaurant, we were seated along a window wiith the best view ever! And my darn camera isn't working!!!!! This is deinitely the biggest nbummer of the review because I would have loved to shown you our table and the food. Plus during our meal, the keepers came out and placed food for the animals. We had the best, up close view of giraffes, zebras, and many other animals right outside our window. It really doesn't get any better than that!
Darcy, our merchant, was phenomenal! This meal was very unnerving for me because LOTSO doesn't not like any complex food. He is your typical 'spaghetti, chicken nuggets, etc..' type of kid so I am not sure if he was bit by the Disney Magic bug or what, but was excited to try out these new foods. Back to Darcy, she was so awesome. She thoroughly explained what each food was, how it looked, how it was cooked, flavor profiles, etc. She covered it all. Once we were done eating, I made sure to tell her how great she was and let her know that her descriptions were so spot on....amazing!
Since we were on DxDDP, we started with apps. Even though some of them said that they were 'for 2', we were able to each order what we wanted.
We got:
Bread Service
1. Naan (LOTSO tore this up)
2. Onion Kulcha (my fav)
3. Papadum (LOTSO also liked because it had a zip to it)
DIPS
1. Cucumber Raita (Clean, cold, fresh...yummy)
2. Coriander Chutney (I love coriander so enjoyed this. Very strong flavor so didn't need much on the bread)
3. Mango Chutney (Very good, but least favorite probably becuase it is something common that I can get around here)
Salad Trio
1. Chickpeas wtih Cucumber and Tomato (A bit plain, but I also can get that around here so didn't want to fill up)
2. Roasted Beets (I love beets so these were a bit hit)
3. Carrots, Orange, and Mint (Shredded carrots that tasted like heaven. I devoured these and could have eaten a whole plate....such simple ingredients, but the flavor was the bestest!)
African Chicken - LOTSO recommended I get this and it was another heavenly dish. I will be getting this again on my next trip. I can't explain in writing how great this tasted. It had turnips and cherries and I believe a butternut squash sauce in the bottom that had just the right balance of sweeetness.......my mouth is watering as I write this.
LOTSO got the Slow Cooked in Gravey with Basmati Rice. He chose the Beef Short Ribs and Chicken in Red Curry. When the plate came out, the rice had some sort of toasted seeds in it....UH OH! I figured LOTSO would not be a happy camper, but he dove in tried them, looked at me said, This is the best rice I have ever eaten in my life." I tried some and it was pretty darn good. I asked Darcy what was in there and she said that she believed it was toasted cumin. LOTSO tried both meats and said that they were okay (major triumph that he ate anythign here). The chicken and ribs were both very tender and quite tasy. However, we were pretty full at this time and needed to keep some room for dessert.
Dessert Trio Sampler. Holy Mother of Desserts....I am going back to SANAA just for this alone!
1. Chocolate cake - moist, rich, and the perfect size.
2. Chai cream - if you like chai, you will love this.
3. Passion Fruit Kulfi - if you are like me, you are wondering, "WHAT THE HECK IS THIS?' I had no idea what to expect and when I looked at it, I tried to figure what it was. I honestly thought it would be like a custard, but it was frozen...sort of like a cremy sorbet and I stole LOTSO's too.
This dessert platter was a sample of perfection and one of my favorites of the trip.
I would totally recommend this restaurant in a heartbeat. I didnt' have any alcohol on this trip, but there were some really nice drink selections and wine pairings for the meal.
