A DxDDP extravaganza with TIG and LOTSO ***PICS FINALLY***

Having read the blogs and viewed the pics, we did not expect to be seated by the windows, but as we were escorted into the restaurant, we were seated along a window wiith the best view ever! And my darn camera isn't working!!!!! This is deinitely the biggest nbummer of the review because I would have loved to shown you our table and the food. Plus during our meal, the keepers came out and placed food for the animals. We had the best, up close view of giraffes, zebras, and many other animals right outside our window. It really doesn't get any better than that!

Darcy, our merchant, was phenomenal! This meal was very unnerving for me because LOTSO doesn't not like any complex food. He is your typical 'spaghetti, chicken nuggets, etc..' type of kid so I am not sure if he was bit by the Disney Magic bug or what, but was excited to try out these new foods. Back to Darcy, she was so awesome. She thoroughly explained what each food was, how it looked, how it was cooked, flavor profiles, etc. She covered it all. Once we were done eating, I made sure to tell her how great she was and let her know that her descriptions were so spot on....amazing!

Since we were on DxDDP, we started with apps. Even though some of them said that they were 'for 2', we were able to each order what we wanted.

We got:

Bread Service
1. Naan (LOTSO tore this up)
2. Onion Kulcha (my fav)
3. Papadum (LOTSO also liked because it had a zip to it)
DIPS
1. Cucumber Raita (Clean, cold, fresh...yummy)
2. Coriander Chutney (I love coriander so enjoyed this. Very strong flavor so didn't need much on the bread)
3. Mango Chutney (Very good, but least favorite probably becuase it is something common that I can get around here)

Salad Trio
1. Chickpeas wtih Cucumber and Tomato (A bit plain, but I also can get that around here so didn't want to fill up)
2. Roasted Beets (I love beets so these were a bit hit)
3. Carrots, Orange, and Mint (Shredded carrots that tasted like heaven. I devoured these and could have eaten a whole plate....such simple ingredients, but the flavor was the bestest!)

African Chicken - LOTSO recommended I get this and it was another heavenly dish. I will be getting this again on my next trip. I can't explain in writing how great this tasted. It had turnips and cherries and I believe a butternut squash sauce in the bottom that had just the right balance of sweeetness.......my mouth is watering as I write this.

LOTSO got the Slow Cooked in Gravey with Basmati Rice. He chose the Beef Short Ribs and Chicken in Red Curry. When the plate came out, the rice had some sort of toasted seeds in it....UH OH! I figured LOTSO would not be a happy camper, but he dove in tried them, looked at me said, This is the best rice I have ever eaten in my life." I tried some and it was pretty darn good. I asked Darcy what was in there and she said that she believed it was toasted cumin. LOTSO tried both meats and said that they were okay (major triumph that he ate anythign here). The chicken and ribs were both very tender and quite tasy. However, we were pretty full at this time and needed to keep some room for dessert.

Dessert Trio Sampler. Holy Mother of Desserts....I am going back to SANAA just for this alone!
1. Chocolate cake - moist, rich, and the perfect size.
2. Chai cream - if you like chai, you will love this.
3. Passion Fruit Kulfi - if you are like me, you are wondering, "WHAT THE HECK IS THIS?' I had no idea what to expect and when I looked at it, I tried to figure what it was. I honestly thought it would be like a custard, but it was frozen...sort of like a cremy sorbet and I stole LOTSO's too.

This dessert platter was a sample of perfection and one of my favorites of the trip.

I would totally recommend this restaurant in a heartbeat. I didnt' have any alcohol on this trip, but there were some really nice drink selections and wine pairings for the meal.

On an end note to this wonderful meal, I gave LOTSO's KTTW charging privies to help teach him some financial responsibility and to learn how 'credit' actually works. He was given a $$$ limit for spending by saving up his allowance and some money I matched so this was a good way for him to track his balance and decide which purchases to make. He was so excited and felt like such a grown up. Darcy brought the bill to him and he signed it and learned about tipping (we are a 20% tipping family because we understand how hard of a job it is). He was truly beaming...

Joining in...great start. Happy 40 b-day and congrats to retirement.

Thank you all for the kind words. I truly am so blessed in my life.

Speaking of blessed, I didn't really address earlier that I am also raising my nephew since my sister died of breast cancer. He jsut turned 17 and wasn't sure where he wanted to go on a special trip, but he wants to go to WDW!!!!!

So...I am planning another trip for a week in the summer for us and we will be doing the DDP so he can experience some of the wonderful dining experiences too. We will also be trying some new places (hopefully depending on DVC avail) like Cape May Cafe Breakfast Buffet, Tusker House Dinner, Kona Cafe Dinner, Le Cellier Lunch, Les Chef's de France Lunch, Yak & Yeti Lunch, BOMA Breakfast, SANAA Dinner....

loving these reviews - how remarkable you are to juggle all that life has thrown at you and can't think of a better trip to make again than WDW.

Really interested in your AKL and Sannaa reports as we love Boma and are going to AKL for the first time as resort guests in October.

How far is it to walk from AKL to Kidani? Know it doens't seem far on the bus.

Speaking of welcome, don't you just love when you hear "WELCOME HOME"....I literally got a little teary-eyed when I first heard it upon entering AKL.
I love hearing this. I heard that it's a DVC thing, but I'm not a DVC member, and we still get it at AKL (I guess it's kinda hard for the CMs to distinguish between DVC and non-DVC). I don't get emotional easily, but for some reason, this hit me when we were there, and made me fall in love with Disney all over again!

Sounds like Sanaa is awesome. If we didn't already have all of our meals planned for our trip, I'd throw it in there. Oh well, gives us a reason to go back :-)

Loving your trip report :) It sounds like you guys had a great time. I've been debating Disney Quest and Sanaa for my October trip so I'm happy to hear first hand reports. Also, it's great that you gave your son a budget and charging privileges. There have definitely been times I wish my parents did more of that when I was younger!

I honestly don't know what the heck I am going to do when I retire and the kids are out of the house. I have no idea how to slow down, but I am going to give it my best effort! Speaking of juggling, I am also working on my degree in Health Care Administration in the evenings. My nephew has play practice, oldest son has Speech Night, and youngest has a baseball game so I will be on the go all evening tonight and then writing a few papers. Good times! <----Can you see how I just love to escape to WDW for some quiet time ;)

I will be reviewing BOMA soon for breakfast and dinner. We even went and did a second breakfast because we loved it. Definitely one of my favorites.

We did not take the walk to Kidani, but it would take about ten minutes. We hopped on the Dowtown Disney bus from Jambo which went to Kidani. The theme park buses go to Kidani first and then Jambo so it is an easier return. I should say that we chose to take the bus due to weather, not out of laziness. However, it is not a walk that I would want to be taking often to go back and forth to grab some quick service meals. That is definitely the big complaint about Kidani.

Would I pay for DQ....um no! But since the kids now enjoy the waterpark and more option, DQ is covered under that and a convenient option for us. It is a nice way to kill a few hours in the afternoon or on a non-park day. Plus my boys love video games and it is much easier to let them go there than play in the pay arcades at the resorts which can add up quickly. DQ definitely needs some TLC, but has enough options to keep my guys happy. My nephew will be going a few times on our upcoming trip.

I hear you on the budgeting things. My parents didn't prepare me at all with financial responsibility. My kids get a good allowance but are responsible to save for things and budget for their entertainment, charitable donations, etc. It has really worked out well for many reasons. The best is that I don't hear "Mom, can I have some money??????" every time we go out or to a store. It really has ended up saving me a lot of money and they are really great about being responsible. I figure that I will probably need them to take care of me when I am old so they need to make sure they can afford it :)

'Welcome Home' while simple is something we also use when our personnel are returning from deployment. After not being at home nor seeing our loved ones for so long, it is an extremely emotional moment...perhaps that is part of the trigger that just pulls at my heart strings. But part of Disney that I love is the 'family' attitude. Don't get me wrong, I completely understand that it is a business looking to make money, but we really have encountered such wonderful customer service (for the most part) and love the CMs who really help make us feel so welcome.

Jungle Juic, Frunch whatever you call it........I call it NECTAR OF THE GODS! Okay that may be a bit dramatic, but it sure is so delicious :)

First up the fruit bowl. Very simple, but the selection was nice and fresh.

LOTSO loves the traditional breakfast fare....pancakes, sausage, eggs. He did not care for the bacon nor did I for most of the trip. It had very little flavor and was not very crispy. He also loves to turn everything at breakfast into a sandwich, thus the roll and bread. He also loved the JUNGLE JUICE (I still prefer FRUNCH, but our server laughed when I called it that and said that she hadn't head that in a long time)

Great start! We love Saana too and we have it scheduled for our first evening.

Also, I love how the DIS gives me ideas re: parenting. I think it's great that you let your 10 year old figure out the tip and "pay" for it. :thumbsup2

Wow 40 and retired lucky you .I will be following the rest of your report and Happy Belated 40

I should explain tha tI definitely won't be retiring from working....just retiring from Active Duty. I will still be working full time to cover my bills. However, please don't take that as me complaining....I am greatly appreciative for the stipend and medical benefits. They aren't free, but compared to what others are paying, it is a very good deal.

I am mostly grateful to not have to leave my family again....that is the thing that I am most looking forward to when I retire.

Sorry for the delay in posts. My best friend's birthday is tomorrow and so we enjoyed a SPA Day on Friday to celebrate and it was heavenly!

Then found out my son's finger is fractured so had to take him back to the doctor to get it mobilized and he is out of baseball for a while. Luckily the fracture was very small so it should heal quickly.

Then a good friend's daughter fell asleep at the wheel and died in a cra crash. She just turned 18 and was their only child. The Viewing and Memorial are tomorrow and Tuesday so will be out of pocket for a couple of days.

Joining in on your reviews. Your Son is adorable.

I am so sorry to hear of your friends Daughter. That is just heartbreaking :( Thinking of them and her family.
