A Dream of a Dream

that is sad he was there alone but i am sure it still a special moment for him even though you witnessed it. they must have had a real love for the falls.

I snapped a few more garden pictures before heading up to the room to make my friends wake up so we could get the day started. What was with all this sleeping in, you would think they were on vacation or something. :rolleyes:

Britt and Kyah were awake when I made it back but they weren't ready yet so I chilled and watched some Regis and Kelly and read the morning paper. The hotel had free copies of The Globe and Mail (best paper in Canada), the sign of a good hotel, they carry a high quality paper and not trash like the Toronto Star. ;)

Once the girls were ready we were off! We had to make our way down to the Table Rock at the Horseshoe Falls so that we could buy our Adventure Passes. The Adventure Pass costs around $40 and includes admission to the four main attractions: Maid of the Mist, Niagara's Fury, Journey Behind the Falls and White Water Walk. You also get free transportation on the PeopleMover bus which shuttles you around to all the various sites in the area. You can also get discounts on other area attractions with the pass such as the Butterfly Conservatory.

They have it set up so that you can reserve a time to enter the attractions (except Maid of the Mist, that is first come first served). Not really necessary at the time of year we were traveling but probably very useful in the summer.

We decided to go to Journey Behind the Falls and Niagara's Fury first since both are located in the Table Rock centre where we bought the passes. First Britt and Kyah needed to grab some food. They hadn't eaten yet since they weren't productive early risers like me. :snooty:

Once their tummies were full we went to Journey Behind the Falls. At this attraction you get shuttled down behind the falls in an elevator and then you walk the tunnels to viewpoints behind the falls and then you can go out onto two observation decks. The lower deck was still closed so we only got to go onto the upper one, that was fine and the view was still great. The guide who took us down in the elevator made a big deal out of the fact that Marilyn Monroe had visited when she filmed the movie Niagara. No kidding! ;):laughing:

The picture isn't very impressive but that is a wall of water through that opening. It was VERY loud! There were two portals you could look out.

Journey Behind the Falls was neat but if you only have the money to do one of the "up close" activities I would go with the Maid of the Mist.

Next we went upstairs to Niagara's Fury. For some reason I thought this was a motion simulator ride. Instead it turned out to be a movie in the round like the Canada and China movies at Epcot but with water effects.

Everybody who enters is handed a souvenir poncho that you can keep or recycle at the end of the show.

There is a cute little preshow where you are introduced to the main character of the film, Chip Flat Tail. He has to write a paper for school about the history of the Falls. He falls asleep on the books and that is when you are escorted into the main show room.

Just like at Epcot the movie plays all around you and you stand in the centre. The basic plot is that Chip is taken back in time and you follow along with him to see how the Falls were created. Along the way you get doused at regular intervals with water, hence the ponchos. It was a very cute and fun film and Brittany said it was her favourite of the four attractions we did that day.

I can imagine those viewpoints were super loud!! Did the ground sort of shake too??

You do such a nice job photographing the flowers!! Again, GREAT JOB!!

Huh.....I expected some sort of a moving ride too. The name "Fury" kind of makes you think of that.

My family has been behind the Falls TONS of times, but only on the Maid like...once....or maybe twice.... It's mostly because we don't want to park elsewhere.

I love the new Table Rock Centre. Got great new souvenirs and a candy store! Also, the food court is better arranged.

Both experiences were fun but I definitely before the Maid of the Mist, it was just so much fun! We came off the boat grinning. :laughing:

Gorgeous pictures of the Falls, Lessa! I've been once when I was a kid. Would love to go back someday.

Looks like a really fun trip! :goodvibes

did they have something from keeping people from going to to close to the falls when you were behind them?

It is a really fun place to visit and there is so much to do there. :thumbsup2

Yep, it is gated off. It would be really easy for somebody to climb over and run for it if they really wanted to though.

I'm going to finish the Niagara TR this week as I leave next Sunday to spend two weeks at my dad's house out in British Columbia.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
After visiting Journey Behind the Falls and Niagara's Fury it was time to go on the Maid of the Mist! This is the one thing I was most looking forward to.
I suppose we could have hopped on the PeopleMover but it was such a nice day out and so warm so we decided to walk back down to where the Maid of the Mist docks which is almost right across the street from our hotel.
We got another set of souvenir ponchos and then made our way down to the bottom of the gorge to get on the boat.
Kyah was really nervous about going out near the Falls. I reassured her that nothing would happen and that the Maid of the Mist has been operating for a hundred years and that they knew what they were doing. ;)
I was juggling two cameras at once trying to get photos and video. Brittany and Kyah were too nervous to handle the cameras, they thought they would drop them or get them too wet.
Well I must not have tied my hood on securely enough as it went flying off once we started to get close to the Horeshoe Falls. I couldn't mess around with it though as I was focusing on keeping the cameras safe. Needless to say I got drenched. It added to the fun though and I was laughing like crazy. It was such a neat experience and hopefully I will get to do it again someday.
I definitely recommend that if you only do one thing when you go to Niagara Falls that you do the Maid of the Mist. It is a lot of fun and I don't think the price is too bad. I think it is $14 for an adult if you don't but the Adventure Pass.
There is an elevator that you can take back up to the top of the Gorge so you don't have to walk all the way back up afterwards if you don't want to. Of course you get dropped off in a dump shop where they have souvenir photos for sale that they take before you board the ship and all sorts of other touristy stuff. We bypassed all of that though and exited to find the PeopleMover bus stop as we were now off to the White Water Walk.
I think of all the things you've done so far at NF, I'd have chosen this one. How amazing to get to close to such power!! I too, am leaving for 2 weeks, we'll catch again later in June- until then, my friend, have a wonderful trip!!
Awesome pictures! I could actually feel being right there with you! I was getting excited! Haha
White Water walk? I've actually never heard of that. How much was the Adventure Pass again?
The Adventure Pass was about $40. White Water Walk isn't right there in the thick of things so I think it often gets overlooked. I really liked it though.
Great updates. Can you imagine that in all the times I have been to Niagra Falls I have never been on the Maid of the Mist? I was always too scared to go on, so I get where your friends were coming from.
Ever since seeing your pics I cant get going back there out of my mind, so my mom and I decided that if finances look good we will take a long weekend and go up there this fall.
Hopefully you get to go and should definitely try the Maid of the Mist, it is not scary at all and they were so glad they did it.
