A DREAM is a WISH your HEART makes ..... 18 days of Free Disney Dining! (with pix)

August 17 continued - Tokyo Dining

After a relaxing break at the resort we headed to the TTC and used the Monorail to go to Epcot for our Tokyo Dining reservation.
This was one reservation I was nervous about. Tom likes Japanese, but this was my first REAL encounter of it. I had had sushi before, but only the pre-packaged stuff.
We arrived there a little early to find out that central reservations had made our reservation at the Japanese Steakhouse, not the Tokyo Dining. The CM signing us in was very helpful and we were able to get a table at our desired restaurant.
After about a 20 minute wait we were led to our table. Our server was very sweet, but unfortunately her English was VERY hard to understand, so smiling and pointing to things were in order. She also whispered more than she spoke, so we were in for a fun time.
Before we were even able to order she brought out hot towels to clean our hands. Then she took our drink orders and returned with them to take our orders.
I ordered the Ginza Gozen a Tempura and sushi combination, which is allowed on the DDP and I wanted to try their sushi.
The food came on one big "tray" and had a plate of 5 pieces of sushi, which was fresh and tasted quite nice. I liked the pickled ginger that came with it, not so much the wasabi, which tasted different from what I was used to. The rice was bland and sticky, but tasted nice after being dipped into soy. The green stuff in the little yellow bowl was okay, but the dark stuff (whatever it was) was very odd tasting.
The tempura was to die for! It was crisp and nicely seasoned and there were scallops, shrimps, asperagus, mushroom caps and pumpkin. VERY very good!!
I just wish my chopstick skills would have been better - I had to ask for a fork :rotfl2:

Tom had chosen the Shinjuku Gozen, a Tempura and sashimi combination. He liked his dish very much and thought the fish was very fresh and tasty. He loved the tempura (same as mine) too. Plus - he CAN eat with chopsticks. :lmao:

For our desserts Tom chose the Green Tea Pudding, which we thought would be a bit on the bitter side, but on the contrary, it had a slightly sweet taste and was very nice and light. Odd colour though!

I went the more secure route and ordered the chocolate ginger cake. What a surprise! A light sponge cake with chocolate cream and a light ginger finish.

After dinner we wandered through WS and into Futureworld. There was time to fit in a few rides before we headed back to Marokko for the preferred fireworks viewing.
We were the first people there and decided on a spot to view Illuminations. It turned out we had picked a very good spot and enjoyed the fireworks very much.

After the fireworks we went back to the Monorail and travelled to the MK for EMH. Needless to say when we got back to Oak Manor we were greeted by our friend Froggie and his family again.

next up Wolfgang Puck's Express (again!), Riverside Mill snack, Raglan Road

That frog! :lmao: He's like your trip mascot.

I know you didn't plan it this way, but thank you so much for posting your Flame Tree BBQ review before I left! :thumbsup2 I've been debating counter service in AK, and your meals look yummy! Can't wait to try it myself.

Now, I'm also very interested in Tokyo Dining, looks like some excellent Japanese cuisine. :thumbsup2

I can't wait for Raglan Road!! That tempura looked heavenly and light as a feather, I'm definitely going to have to give it a go!

Thanks for the Tokyo Dining review. It looks really good, and I'm looking forward to trying it.

I am loving your reviews and pics thanks for sharing, that frog I would have had a heart attack, I am absolutely terrified of them, I so wish I could get over the fear x

That sounds good, and I'm sure it was, but that color just makes it look so unappetizing to me.

You are right, the colour makes the pudding a bit "odd". That's why we were really surprised it tasted much better than it looked! :)

I've just read your report so far - it's great and I love your photos! :thumbsup2

Your report might help me to decide where I want to try next April. :goodvibes

Ribs from Flame Tree...mmmmmmh popcorn:: I'm asking myself: I want to go ther now! ^^ I'm looking forward to your next post!

Great update. I am flattered that you have read my trip reports :flower3:

The tempura at Tokyo Dining looks amazing - I'm afraid I can't say the same for the raw fish

I love your little froggy 'mascot' at Oak Manor. How sweet.

Looking forward to your review of Raglan Road.

Aug 18 - Wolfgang Puck's Express, Riverside Mill and Raglan Road

Since we had come back to the resort very late the night before we decided to sleep in and headed out shortly before 11am to hit Wolfgang Puck's again.
I had done massive research on the DIS, so I talked Tom into trying one of WPE`s signature dishes, the Rosemary Rotisserie Chicken - served with house-made garlic mashed potatoes. I tried a bit and it was very moist and tender, with just a hint of rosemary and those mashed potatoes were just heavenly. Needless to say he cleared his plate.

I had another pizza. This time I tried the Barbecue Chicken Pizza. Thank god I was really hungry, it would have been a sin to leave some of it behind!

IMG_7471.jpg

For dessert I had another Creme Bruleé. Forgot to take a photo because I was so looking forward to it. But you can see it in the background in the next photo.
Tom tried the All Natural Frozen Vanilla Yoghurt with fresh strawberries! Very yummy indeed!

We decided it was time to go outlet shopping, so we went to the "Former Beltz Mall" (I always forget what it is called now) to have a look what the Disney outlet store had to offer.

When we finally got back to the resort I remembered something I had wanted to try. A Magic Cookie Bar from the foodcourt.
I tried it ................ and

was HOOKED!!! What a yummy treat! And only a snack credit!

To be continued .........
Next up Raglan Road!

OMG I'm ready to grab the food right off my screen! Great photo's! Great descriptions! I'm ready for MORE!!

August 18 continued .......... Raglan Road

After we had spent the afternoon shopping and nibbling on the Magic Cookie Bar we were ready to go to Pleasure Island and check out Raglan Road.
I have to admit that we rarely go to Pleasure Island, so we had never thought about eating at Raglan Road before.
We had a little time to spare so we checked out the whole Pleasure Island area before heading to the restaurant to sign in.
After being given a beeper it took about 20 minutes for us to be led to our table which was to the side of the main dining area where the entertainment was about to start.
While we were looking at the menu we both realized that it was near to impossible to talk to each other, it was LOUD in that restaurant. And to top it off we were seated next to a party that had a lady laughing very loudly, remember Fran Drescher in "The Nanny" - just like her, only louder! :lmao:

When the waitress finally appeared Tom ordered an Irish beer, a Kilkenny if I remember correctly. He said it was very nice.

IMG_7516.jpg

Next up was some olive oil that was infused with a Guinness reduction.

IMG_7517.jpg

They brought out a bowl of "Sodabread" rolls with it. These were the most disgusting rolls I ever had at WDW! Hard and tasting like sawdust. Not even dipping and more dipping into the olive oil made it more tasty. Yuck!!

IMG_7518.jpg

IMG_7519.jpg

We had chosen to share a starter and it looked like a fun dish when it arrived! The Calamari City - Salt 'n' Pepper calamari and mixed tempura vegetables served with a spicy remoulade did NOT disappoint! The tempura was crisp and well seasoned and the portion was definitely enough for us to share.

IMG_7520.jpg

While we were finishing the last few bites they brought out our main courses. Again, VERY generous portions and neither of us could finish them, even though they both were excellent!
Tom had Kevin's Heavenly Ham - Chef Kevin's signature dish. Oven-roasted loin of ham with an Irish Mist glaze. Served with braised cabbage and creamed potato - very moist ham and delicious cabbage and potatoes.

IMG_7525.jpg

I love Shepard's Pie and that was what I ordered. The photo does not do it justice. The portion was HUGE!!!!! and very tasty. The sauce was soooooo good!

IMG_7524.jpg

In the meantime the band was playing and the Irish Dancer was on stage and with the occasional outburst of "Fran" laughter it had become impossible to have a conversation! We were kind of reduced to "signing" to each other.
When the waitress came to ask about desserts, it was VERY hard to understand her and even more surprising to hear that only half of the choices on the menu were available.
We both ordered our desserts and right after that, she brought over the bill! Having worked in a restaurant it really made me mad to suggest to pay for your meal before you have even seen the last course. So I pretended not to see it.
It took a very long time to bring out our desserts. I had ordered Ger's Bread & Butter Pudding, which was served cold with kind of tasteless "Creme Anglais" but very tasty butterscotch sauce. For the time it took to bring it out one could have thought they would have been able to heat it a bit.

IMG_7536.jpg

Tom had ordered the Dunbrody Kiss, a very chocolatey dessert. It tasted nice but for those of you who watch Chef Gordon Ramsay - he would have had a nervous breakdown, had he seen the "smeared" plate we got!

IMG_7531.jpg

IMG_7534.jpg

So, to sum it up - The food was quite good (even the cold bread and butter pudding) and we would go back, but we would definitely go at a less busy time and ask for a table away from entertainment, because of the noise level.

Tom had developed a headache, so we called it a night and went back to POR. I was a bit disappointed my friend Froggie wasn't in his usual place, but was happy to find his friend on one of the columns right outside our door!

To be continued ............
Next up Riverside Mill breakfast, a snack from Japan, lunch at the Mara and a few more treats from Goofy's Candy Co and dinner at Boatwright's!
