August 18 continued .......... Raglan Road
After we had spent the afternoon shopping and nibbling on the Magic Cookie Bar we were ready to go to Pleasure Island and check out Raglan Road.
I have to admit that we rarely go to Pleasure Island, so we had never thought about eating at Raglan Road before.
We had a little time to spare so we checked out the whole Pleasure Island area before heading to the restaurant to sign in.
After being given a beeper it took about 20 minutes for us to be led to our table which was to the side of the main dining area where the entertainment was about to start.
While we were looking at the menu we both realized that it was near to impossible to talk to each other, it was LOUD in that restaurant. And to top it off we were seated next to a party that had a lady laughing very loudly, remember Fran Drescher in "The Nanny" - just like her, only louder!
When the waitress finally appeared Tom ordered an Irish beer, a Kilkenny if I remember correctly. He said it was very nice.
Next up was some olive oil that was infused with a Guinness reduction.
They brought out a bowl of "Sodabread" rolls with it. These were the most disgusting rolls I ever had at WDW! Hard and tasting like sawdust. Not even dipping and more dipping into the olive oil made it more tasty. Yuck!!
We had chosen to share a starter and it looked like a fun dish when it arrived! The Calamari City - Salt 'n' Pepper calamari and mixed tempura vegetables served with a spicy remoulade did NOT disappoint! The tempura was crisp and well seasoned and the portion was definitely enough for us to share.
While we were finishing the last few bites they brought out our main courses. Again, VERY generous portions and neither of us could finish them, even though they both were excellent!
Tom had Kevin's Heavenly Ham - Chef Kevin's signature dish. Oven-roasted loin of ham with an Irish Mist glaze. Served with braised cabbage and creamed potato - very moist ham and delicious cabbage and potatoes.
I love Shepard's Pie and that was what I ordered. The photo does not do it justice. The portion was HUGE!!!!! and very tasty. The sauce was soooooo good!
In the meantime the band was playing and the Irish Dancer was on stage and with the occasional outburst of "Fran" laughter it had become impossible to have a conversation! We were kind of reduced to "signing" to each other.
When the waitress came to ask about desserts, it was VERY hard to understand her and even more surprising to hear that only half of the choices on the menu were available.
We both ordered our desserts and right after that, she brought over the bill!

Having worked in a restaurant it really made me mad to suggest to pay for your meal before you have even seen the last course. So I pretended not to see it.
It took a very long time to bring out our desserts. I had ordered Ger's Bread & Butter Pudding, which was served cold with kind of tasteless "Creme Anglais" but very tasty butterscotch sauce. For the time it took to bring it out one could have thought they would have been able to heat it a bit.
Tom had ordered the Dunbrody Kiss, a very chocolatey dessert. It tasted nice but for those of you who watch Chef Gordon Ramsay - he would have had a nervous breakdown, had he seen the "smeared" plate we got!
So, to sum it up - The food was quite good (even the cold bread and butter pudding) and we would go back, but we would definitely go at a less busy time and ask for a table away from entertainment, because of the noise level.
Tom had developed a headache, so we called it a night and went back to POR. I was a bit disappointed my friend Froggie wasn't in his usual place, but was happy to find his friend on one of the columns right outside our door!
To be continued ............
Next up Riverside Mill breakfast, a snack from Japan, lunch at the Mara and a few more treats from Goofy's Candy Co and dinner at Boatwright's!
