A Dream Come True - 2/6/11 4-day Bahama Cruise

Sounds good to us! Can't wait to leave... this week is going on and on and on... and it's Sunday! Safe travels to those who are coming to FL this week!

Question: Is anyone going to have a list/ paper/ white board on their door for us to check for any upgrades/ GTY assignments? Were GTY but have no room # yet for the FE... this could be problematic. (Although, we could just deliver the first day so everyone has our room #...) :yay:

Did you sign onto the DCL website, and pull up your reservation? I didn't receive a notification, but found my GTY room assignment that way.

BTW, please allow me to introduce myself, I'm a man of wea... sorry, wrong song. My DW and I signed on at the last minute for this cruise, mostly because we want to see the Dream, and are in Florida at the moment. A pleasure to be joining you all!

Our last DCL adventure was the WestBound TransAtlantic from Barcelona to Canaveral, Sept. 18 - Oct. 2nd, 2010. It was a blast, and the weather was amazing. We were worried about doing another cruise because we didn't think anything could be as good. Then we thought, "Well, let's just see the Dream, then it won't matter if the cruise isn't any good." And frankly, I could care less whether we see Nassau or not.

In any case, See You Real Soon! :wizard:

WELCOME!!!

Hope you'll be joining us for the Sail Away Party...We can sing Stones songs together.

I like Deck 12, midship, starboard side. That way you can see the show, but your not in the middle of that madness! You also get good views of everyone who came out to Jetty Park to wave to the ship as she leaves!:thumbsup2

Okay! I just hope I can remember this. Anyone got ideas? Or want to take responsibility for finding me?

Four more days till we leave for Disney. St. Louis is suppose to have an ice storm tomorrow so I might have a snow day. Just will give me more time to pack.

We're hoping for a snow day on Wednesday! We're still looking at about 12 inches of snow and we're only about 40 miles north of the ice range. And wind. And single digit temperatures.

I predict chaos! And mad runs to the grocery store for french toast supplies (milk, eggs, bread).

(Also: husband is a weather geek, so I've been getting hourly updates on the storm for a couple of days now. Also also: it's supposed to start earlier and earlier, which is good. it can finish up earlier and earlier, too!)

Welcome. And if that song gets stuck in my head all day, I know who to blame!

There's some pleasure in realizing that the weather is going to suck and we're going to leave. O happy day.

Oh rats. For those of you who take private transportation to the ship, how much do you tip? I keep seeing 20% but that seems high for my cheap little self.

I think this cruise will be a total blast :D Maybe even some crazy antics thrown in.

I'm no help. For my last DCL cruise - I had a friend pick us up from the airport and when I tried to pay for his meal he paid for our meal for the entire group (I think he thought my friend was hot) I would tip like 10 to 15% but I dunno the norm.

Ooohhh, my computer is throwing hissy fits this morning:headache:. It won't let me quote anything today.

So...

Welcome to Futurist! The more the merrier!

Deck 12 sounds good, I'll try to remember to get the two of us there!

We're looking at a storm for tomorrow morning. There should be snow on the ground in the morning. Unless there's more than six inches of new stuff it won't be a snow day for me, but it will be a two-hour delayed opening. I hate those. Public transportation just doesn't work at the whim of the school board (the municipal offices follow their lead on snow days, etc.). I can take a train that gets me here one hour later than usual, and the next one gets me here three hours later. I hate taking a cab on a bad morning because I feel safer walking! Well, we'll see what happens.

We spent yesterday afternoon at the mall. Jim "suddenly remembered" that he needed new socks, he needed a haircut, he needed new sneakers, etc. On the other hand, I needed a butter dish. Somehow ours got lost when we moved. How on earth do you manage to lose a butter dish?:confused3

On that note, I think I need a vacation. I need to go somewhere that the sidewalks aren't covered in snow and ice, and where the temperature can stay above 32 degrees for more than ten minutes. Maybe I'll head for the Bahamas next week. ;)

I hate this computer. NOW it's happy to quote!!!

My BIL is a limo driver, and he seems to think that 20% is the usual tip. Of course, when he takes us anywhere, all he gets is dinner!

The U doesn't close, because students and faculty live close enough to walk. Except that grad students and faculty have to stay home and take care of their children during snow days, thus most classes are canceled. It's kind of like the thought process is halfway right... but not entirely.

But I agree. I'm wishing I had snow shoes, except it's 5 miles each way. I figure if the bus can't get me there safely, no one can and I ain't coming in.

It'll turn up next year. And, rats, I meant to get a haircut, too. Today's probably my last chance, as we're not likely to drive again until after we're back.

Man, I must be REALLY cheap! :headache: Oh well.

It'll turn up next year.

20 years ago, we moved from Eastern PA to the Jersey Shore. At that time, I packed a small box with five plates in it. They were those blue and white "Willow Ware" plates with the Japanese scenes on them, stamped on the back "Made in Occupied Japan". Never saw them again.

Until yesterday! We have moved five times since then, up until this last time all in the same town. This time we moved 1.5 miles away. Last night, I was unpacking a box with my good dishes and my MIL's silver. Now I've had this box unpacked at all but one of those residences, where it actually spent about four months in storage. It's not like the box was sealed for 20 years! There, in the box, wrapped in newspaper were my plates! No idea where they've been all these years, but I was glad to see them. Of course, now I had to apologize to Jim for yelling at him 20 years ago for something he didn't do! So I guess there's hope for the butter dish. Let's see, in another 20 years I'll be almost 80 years old. Will I even remember where that butter dish came from? :rotfl2:

Good luck to all those trying to leave today in this weather. Safe travels! See you Sunday!

Was he entirely confused? Or was he still holding a grudge?! ;) ;) ;)

We lost a CD for 5 years; we thought that was bad enough. Of course, we had ripped it to mp3, so we could still listen to it. We found it in an old Discman, which ... well, I guess it was probably closer to 7 years?

Good luck to all those trying to leave today in this weather. Safe travels! See you Sunday!

Our SNOWPOCALYPSE has STARTED. We got 2" of snow overnight. After much, uh, discussion, we agreed the smart course of action (<-- this would clearly be my decision) would be to take the bus, as SNOWMAGGEDEON starts at 4pm. Halfway to the bus stop, our neighbor (and fellow Disney fan) stopped and picked us up and brought us to work. It helps that we all work for the same place. I was still late but I was also the first one in. Not bad since we have 2 people scheduled for 7:30 and 3 of us for 8. (I'm in the 8 crew)

We'll see. Blizzard warnings. 15 inches of snow predicted. I'm surprised, sort of, there isn't rioting in the streets yet. Maybe up at Michigan State! (I assure you that's funnier when talking to UMich alumni)

Jim is frequently confused. He has some memory-loss issues, and a good sense of humor about it. So he just usually accepts whatever I tell him. That kind of makes him the ideal husband, doesn't it? :rotfl:

I woke up to the most amazing weather this morning. Not snow, not sleet, not ice, but rain! Plain, old-fashioned rain. It's been a while since we saw that here. Of course, it's only rain right here along the immediate shoreline. The temperature is about 34 degrees now, but it won't stay that warm. Tomorrow is the day that will be really wicked here since all of this rain will freeze, along with the huge puddles of melting snow. We're supposed to leave on Saturday, but now they're predicting yet another storm. If it looks like it's going to be bad, we're thinking about trying to change our flight to the latest one we can get on Friday night, or just giving up on flying completely and taking Amtrak.

Safe travels to everyone headed out soon!

Beth

Safe travels everyone with this crazy weather!

I'm just trying to get through the next couple of days at work. My husband is mean and teasing me about how he is now officially on vacation.

Oooh that might be grounds for divorce. After vacation, though. ;)

And, Beth, yes, he sounds like the ideal husband! He's perfected the art of "smiling, nodding and pretending to know what you're talking about"!

I wish something was going on at work. Everyone has just commenced panicking, with the local news site (we have NO newspapers any more!) comments raging about plowing/driving/U refusing to close. I kind of wish I had snow shoes. I called it snowpocalypse, but our friend, traveling with us, called it snowmaggedon. My husband decided it's really blizzardtopia. Hmm. Imagine if we weren't at work.

Anyone have opinions about Old Town Orlando? Our friends are taking us there on Saturday.

He has also perfected the art of "Yes, dear, whatever you want." It's a good thing I'm not a high-maintenance woman. We'd be even more broke than we are now!

Hey guys.
Well we got out of Boston - just!
We moved our flight up to the 6 am flight this morning.
We were to fly tomorrow. Got one of the last 4 slots!
They cancelled the flights after us and all the flights tomorrow!
Yikes - that was a close one!
We're at wdw right now! It was 80 today down here.
See you all on the ship. Happy trails!
