A Dream Come True - 2/6/11 4-day Bahama Cruise

OH AND! Our friends scored an upgrade. I'm totally jealous. I never seem to get them, but I like my room and my location. They went from an oceanview back of the ship room to a mid ship veranda!

Our blizzardapolooza has started, but it looks like it might wuss out and we might "only" get 7-9 inches of snow. The local community college, the other University in town, both other campuses for my U, and the public schools have announced closures for tomorrow. I'm either going to have a quiet (slow, snowy) commute tomorrow... or I'm staying under the covers all day.

Our ice storm here turned into torrential rain, at least here at the shore. I'm currently stranded at home and can't get to work--no trains, no buses and no taxis outside the city limits. I live two towns away. I'm going to call my office in a little while and tell my boss that if he needs me, he can come and pick me up. If he doesn't, I think I'll finish my packing today. Otherwise, I'll be packing tonight.

I need some sunshine and sidewalks that aren't covered in snow and ice!

Beth

Our blizzardapolooza dropped 6 inches of snow overnight with some pretty amazing wind. We're still on target for up to another 4 inches today, with local public safety officials saying STAY OFF THE ROADS.

Which was an amusing counterpoint to the U's "we're open! You should try to come in to work."

"...no..." (All eight of us in my office agree)

Yesterday, one of my coworkers said "Sarah & coworker live on a bus route; they'll be here." I snapped at her for that, saying that it is NOT my responsibility to cover for my coworkers as it was their decision to live outside of town (and once you're outside of Ann Arbor, it gets rural really quickly. Thus, cheap). Two coworkers and myself did make some sacrifices to live in town: smaller houses or apartments and smaller amounts of land (ohhh not a punishment) but it doesn't make us everyone else's back-up.

We, too, are going to pack today!

I HAVE ANOTHER QUESTION and you can point and laugh because it's like I've never been to Disney:

-We're going to a park on Friday. Probably Epcot.
-We're coming back in July. We're doing a "package" trip with a dining plan.
-Say we buy a 6 day no expiration park hopper ticket for Friday. Does anyone know if we're going to have to buy another park ticket to get that dining plan for July?

Yes, you have to buy at least a one day ticket for each person to get dining.

Enjoy your packing!

Beth

Alas, that would defeat the purpose, wouldn't it? Too bad; worth a try. (I didn't want the dining plan, but I lost ;))

Well! We're all checked in for our flight! Our stuff to pack is in a heap on the bed! I have 54 minutes left of work.

... we survived the snow storm. The main roads are sort of clear, our subdivision may not see a plow until May, and the airport is open for business as usual...

Letsgoletsgoletsgo!

Hooray!!!! Glad to hear you survived the snow! :thumbsup2

Sitting at the airport, waiting to board. Our flight is delayed for an hour due to equipment issues. Sitting in the the waiting area with about 40 cheerleaders, I have a really bad feeling they are heading to Orlando too. Thank goodness DH brought the Xanax. ;)

Well, I never did get my packing done yesterday, but my new home office/sewing room/art studio/jewelry design studio is all set up and functional. I finished the necklace I started before we moved, and I'm hoping to finish the one I'm working on now, which matches a bracelet I made a few months ago. I have to work tomorrow, and then I'm officially on vacation! We fly down on Saturday afternoon, and we'll be at the Hyatt at the airport.

I think maybe I should start thinking about packing soon!

Beth

Oooh that might be grounds for divorce. After vacation, though. ;)

And, Beth, yes, he sounds like the ideal husband! He's perfected the art of "smiling, nodding and pretending to know what you're talking about"!

I wish something was going on at work. Everyone has just commenced panicking, with the local news site (we have NO newspapers any more!) comments raging about plowing/driving/U refusing to close. I kind of wish I had snow shoes. I called it snowpocalypse, but our friend, traveling with us, called it snowmaggedon. My husband decided it's really blizzardtopia. Hmm. Imagine if we weren't at work.

Anyone have opinions about Old Town Orlando? Our friends are taking us there on Saturday.

Old Town is a lot of fun. Lots of quaint shops, eateries, and bars. There are several amusement park rides as well. And to top it off an Antique Car Show. You will have a blast!

Hi Beth,
Happy to meet another jewelry maker. What medium do you work in? I use polymer clay and have been addicted from the "first slice". Hopefully we will have a chance to exchange experiences while on board.

Yeaaaaaah I was wondering about that. When my friend and I went a few years ago, it was during that cheerleader expo thing. Frankly, the girls were, well, kids... it was the MOMS that were scary!!:scared1:

Hooray!!!! Glad to hear you survived the snow! :thumbsup2

AND! We got home to a cleared street. Like scraped to the bare pavement park the car in the street until you dig out the end of the driveway cleared. Usually the plow waves its blade at our street and it's called clear. (The sun was also out so there's visible pavement! Did I mention that it's a good time to flee? hah!)

You sound like me! "I should pa... oh, shiny!"

Thanks! I'm looking forward to the time with my friends and this sounds fun and different!

See y'all on Sunday! (Why am I still up?)

You should have a lot of fun at Old Town! They have an antique car parade on Saturday nights! Don't expect Disney, its more like a community event and a carnival mixed together, but lots of fun!

If you are a history buff, the Scrambler ride there is the first one ever built!

Ask the operator and he will probably show you the serial number.......00001!

Thanks, Mike!

I'm looking forward to it, tomorrow!

And I'll see all of you on Sunday!

Right now I'm just getting started, and I've been doing beadwork. I did manage to finish the necklace that I was making, and I have enough stones left over that I'm thinking about making a shorter, matching one so that I can layer them if I want to. I've been thinking about doing some polymer clay since I watched some videos online. I got started by accident when I broke a favorite necklace and decided to re-string it! I'll be in room 6076. I'd love to talk to you if you have a few minutes!

As for packing--

After our usual "packing battle"--Jim hates packing as much as I do, and has absolutely no "clothes sense" and is mostly color-blind, it's all done except for what I need for today and tomorrow. AND I reached my goal of one large suitcase and one small one! I found the missing charger for my underwater camera, stuck in the lining of the small suitcase. Thank goodness I decided to take that suitcase or I would have had to leave that camera home. That one was a souvenir of my last cruise, and I didn't really want to buy another one!

Our streets are mostly clear now too. Good thing, too. The city is laying off 37 people today, and a good number of those are the guys who operate the snow plows. I wonder what will happen the next time it snows? And just as an interesting point, they never did plow the street I used to live on. It still has snow and ice on it in places since the blizzard the day after Christmas!

OK, I think I'll do some work here. I have a major report that has to be completed before I can leave!

Beth

Been workin' to pay for this.

See you all on board. Or, to put it another way,

See You Real Soon!

We're almost out of here! Our airport ride will pick us up at 9:30 and then we're on our way! The cell phones, Kindle and computer are all charged up, so I guess I'm good to go. We'll be in Orlando by dinner time and it should be MUCH warmer there, although it isn't bad here. The temperature is actually above freezing!

See you tomorrow!

Beth

Well, we didn't run into anyone this cruise, but we all picked the right cruise to be on. Only 2700 guests, compared to 3800 this 3 day sailing. We hope everyone had a great time and enjoyed their vacation as much as we did. the FE gifts were great, thank you to all who participated!!

Safe travels to everyone going home. Hope you all have some wonderful memories of the fabulous Disney Dream! :yay:

Just got home and unloaded from the cruise! I had a wonderful time, sorry I didn't meet up with you all more. I loved all the FE gifts we got! I realized I forgot to put my name on mine (the pink bags)

We arrived safe and sound at Pop Century! Sorry we didn't meet (although I did spot a few of you here and there;)).

I agree--it was a great cruise to be on! It seems like I broke my weather curse. We had such a good time we rebooked for two more cruises. We booked the 11/26/11 Western on Magic and the 12/4/11 4-night on Dream. Yes, that's right, two cruises with one night at WDW in between!

I took a lot of pictures which I'll upload later on in the week or once I get home. I'm getting ready to head out to dinner at Cape May Cafe. I thought I'd never be hungry again after all the food I ate over the last four days!
