A Dream Come True - 2/6/11 4-day Bahama Cruise

I think the AquaDuck was how Jeremy convinced one of his friends to come on the cruise, too. I know I am looking forward to it!!

Okay, semi-serious question: it's a 4 day cruise in the Caribbean (in February). I have one bathing suit. Should I get another? My goal for the trip are to do as little as possible (no significant excursions, etc), so I think beach/pool time is where it'll be.

I'd have a back up it I were you.

Knit One! ;)

I always carry two bathing suits in my suitcase. I hate putting on a damp suit.

As for the weather--our only Feb. cruise was this February. Our day in Nassau was CHILLY!!!! I don't think the temperature was above 60 degrees. Our day on Castaway Cay was much warmer, and I did wear a bathing suit, and did go in the water. The water at Serenity Bay that day was very, very, very shallow--I guess it must have been low tide. I walked way out from the shoreline and was still in water up to my knees!

We will be cruising on the disney dream on 02/06/11. My DH and I have been on several carnival cruises but this will be our first with Disney and our kids first ever cruise. We have 3 daughters 14, 11, and 7...they are so excited. My best friend and her daughter (13) first time cruisers will be with us also. Any of you past cruisers have any must know info and tips for us? thanks :)

Welcome loriNstephen! :yay:

Your gonna have a blast!
I'll think on the tips. First thing I'd say is make sure
you go to the Pirate's party

Welcome! This will be my 10th Disney Cruise, and my biggest tip is relax--you can't possibly do everything on your first cruise!

It will be DH and me, along with our almost 11 year old granddaughter. We're surprising her with the cruise as a Christmas gift. It's getting harder and harder to keep the secret, but we're really trying!

I'll think on the tips. First thing I'd say is make sure
you go to the Pirate's party

And that in itself is amazing -
being as old as Rosie is - the old bat does not
have a lot of "firsts"
:lmao:

Thanks Wallyb, your post crack me up :) its nice to meet you. Will they have the pirate party on the new ship??

Hi Lori-

WELCOME!!!

Not only is this my first Disney Cruise, it's my first cruise EVER!!!

Its nice to meet you Rosie! We have been addicted to cruising since our very first cruise :) you will love it!!

Tips: Palo for sure!!!!

thanks, nice to meet ya:) Maybe our girls can meet up too... how strict is disney with the ages for each club? My 14 yr will want to do everything with her 13 yr old friend and Im worried about it being a problem since she will still be 13 on the cruise, any advice?
Palo i want to do for sure but my husband is not looking forward to having to dress up in a suit and tie :(

Nice to meet you Beth, Im so glad to hear there will be several other girls my girls age on this cruise. I know they will all have a blast and looking forward to them meeting new friends.

Im really excited and looking forward to meeting yall :)

Just remember I'm the nice one (and the pretty one;))
I can't think they would ever NOT have the pirate party -
it's like a signature of DCL.
Just watch out for Rosie's busty wench outfit. :scared1:

Lori-

From our past experience, it will be easier for your husband to get into Palo without a shirt and tie then for the 13 year old to get into Vibe. The Teen Club/Vibe seems to be pretty strict about allowing anyone under the 14 year cut off in, where the other clubs are very relaxed and actually encourage the ages to mingle. I'm pretty sure they will allow the 14 into the younger Edge (tweens club). My daughter had a rough time of it on our last cruise when she was 13 and ended up spending most of her time with her little sister. Your daughter and her friend can always just hang out around the ship together too! Would love for the girls to meet up, my youngest is going to meet up with Beth's granddaughter! Nice for them to have a pre-connection!!!

Palo is amazing and they aren't as strict as you think with the dress code. I want to say that more than once, my husband wore nice pants and shirt.

Palo does not require a dinner jacket.

A nice button / collared shirt and dress pants will do you fine . ;)

I've also heard rumors that on these short cruises there's no traditional formal night or was that the 3 night cruises?

(I'll say it: I really dislike formal night but then that might have come from my last cruise with 3 formal nights and 3 "smart casual" nights)

With the 2011 prices FINALLY out for the resorts, I really need to book our pre-cruise stay!

Also, welcome to all the new people. I've been remiss in greeting everyone. :)

Only semiformal on this cruise - one night.

Jamie you can wear your good overalls that night! :thumbsup2

I'm booking our pre-cruise night at the Hyatt before the weekend is over. After I get paid on Friday I'll be booking our post-cruise stay at Pop Century. We still haven't decided for sure how many days we're going to stay. It will be somewhere between three and five. Since we're all going back in the fall we don't have to do as much this trip. We may just do one park day (Epcot) and spend the rest of the time relaxing. Epcot is Shannan's favorite park (and has been since her first visit when she was 3 1/2!), so that's a must. The rest of it? Maybe the Animal Kingdom will be on the list. We may wait and see what the weather's like when we get back to Florida. We absolutely froze last February, except for the day that we left for home!

There's no formal night on the short cruises. Jim and I really enjoy formal night, but we can live without it;). We won't be having dinner at Palo this time because we don't want Shannan to have to have dinner alone. We're planning on having Palo brunch, though! We really enjoy both brunch and dinner at Palo. The last few times we've been there, it's been formal night on the cruise, so Jim is dressed in his tux and I'm wearing....well, whatever! It makes a lovely "date night" for us.

Beth-

I have used a site called www.gtahotels.com in the past and I like them. They had really reasonable prices for the MCO Hyatt if you're interested.
