A Double-Dipping We Go--YO HO! Dream 5-Nighter June 10-15, 2012

Ahoy maties! We just got back from our vacation last night. We spent 3 nights at Caribbean Beach Resort and then spent 5 nights on the Disney Dream. A link to my pre-trip report is above.

For me, the vacation isn't just about the week itself. I get a lot of my fun from the pre-trip planning and the post-trip reminiscing. Which is one of the reasons why I am doing this trip report and some music videos of our trip.

Before we get started, I wanted to address some topics I see a lot on these boards:

* We had the Itinerary A Double-Dip leaving on Sunday. On the DCL website, it said Pirate Night was night #4 (Sea Day). Various people on the board had called DCL to confirm that was the correct night, since in the past it used to be on Nassau day (night #4). DCL said that the online sight was wrong, and that pirate night was actually on Nassau day. My travel agent called for me to verify. Well, the DCL website was actually correct. Pirate Night was on the sea day. We had wanted to have dinner with our kids on pirate night, but had scheduled our Palo dinner for the same evening, so we went to Royal Palace at 1 p.m. on the first day of the cruise and changed our Palo night. And it was no big deal and they were very accommodating for both our Palo night change and the accompanying nursery hours change.

* Speaking of the nursery, I had pre-booked 10 hours online. I went to the open house on the first afternoon and they let me book as many additional hours as I needed on that first day. I booked a few more hours that day, and changed my hours throughout the week, and the nursery staff was always very accommodating. I think we used 16 nursery hours during our 5-day cruise. On some days we put our daughter in the nursery for 2 hours in the morning so that we could do some activities with our older sons (like the Aqua Duck and snorkeling) and we also put her in for 2 hours during dinner.

* Shorts at dinner--saw lots of people wearing shorts at dinner. I don't think I would have noticed had it not been for the lengthy discussions I've seen on that topic on these boards. Many boys and men wore shorts and a nice polo, it did not seem to be a big deal at all on board. Just sayin'.

Ok, enough of that!

We had a great time on our vacation! Two+ years of dreaming and planning about this and I can't believe it's over.

In this report I will attempt to give a good description of what we did each day and our likes/dislikes. (I will tell you right now, there were not many dislikes). I will warn you in advance, I will not go into detail about the food. I took a few pictures of some dishes but got tired of doing that. I also did not take many pictures or videos on rides--I prefer to just sit back and enjoy those.

Stay tuned to find out:

* Did any of us get sick?

* Did I complete the Castaway Cay 5k???

* Did I convince my husband to book another cruise?

You are off to a great start! Can't wait to hear more.

Edited to add:

Love the video! Your kids are cuties!

Brian woke up at 3 a.m., and I was up shortly after. Not because we had to get up that early, we just couldn't sleep! We woke the kids up at 4:45 a..m We were in our car heading to the airport at 5:06 a.m. Our flight left at 7:30, and we were planning on eating breakfast at the airport before our flight left.

I had pre-purchased covered parking at the Park n Fly with a coupon I found online (thanks to the advice of a fellow DISer). We were at the parking lot about 2 hours before our flight, so we thought it would be smooth sailing.

When we got inside the terminal, we found it was a complete zoo! Apparently the storm the night before had canceled some previous flights and people were trying to get on new flights this morning. We had printed our boarding passes at home and paid for our luggage online the day before, the only thing we had to do was get Alyssa a lap child note. At the Delta counter, we explained that the online site gave us an error when we tried to add Alyssa as a lap child. They told us we didn't need anything special for her, that was only for international flights. So they sent us to the security line, which was snaking around all the baggage claims it was so long.

After waiting what seemed like an eternity in this security line, we were starting to get worried that we might miss our flight. And our kids were starting to get real whiny since they hadn't had breakfast yet. I had some nutri-grain bars in my backpack, which made them happy for a little bit, but we had no water or juice since we had to dump that before the security line.

Finally, we made it to the front of the security line. And the TSA agent said, "Where is your permit for your lap child?" And we panicked. And explained that Delta said we didn't need one. TSA said we did and we had to go back to Delta.

Um, our flight was leaving in 20 minutes. We had already stood in line for about an hour at security. We were definitely not making this flight.

We had to push ourselves out of security the wrong way in line to get past all the people behind us. Brian was running back to the Delta counter, trying to explain our situation. When I caught up to him I flagged down the lady who initially told us we didn't need anything for Alyssa. She had no clue how to fix this because she insisted we didn't need anything to get passed security. We asked her to walk with us back to security and tell that to the TSA agent. She did, waved her hand, and we were asked to cut in line in front of all these people and go through the security check.

When we got through, they were boarding our flight. No breakfast for us! And we had a 40 minute layover before our next flight, so food wasn't looking like it was on the horizon.

We told our kids that whining and complaining wasn't allowed on vacation. We had to remind them of that a few times the first few days. Sometimes you have to just roll with it!

The airplane was a smaller regional jet, with 2 seats on each side of the plane. I sat next to Nathan (our 8-year-old) with Alyssa on my lap. Brian sat with Joshua (our 4-year-old) across the aisle.

day1a.jpg

After our flight landed in Cincinnati (yes, we flew up North to go back down South, it was for a cheap airfare), we walked to our next gate and found that our next flight was already boarding. We decided we would have to be the last ones on the flight because we needed to change Alyssa's diaper/go to the bathroom/grab some food. So we did all those things lickity split, and boarded the plane at the final boarding call.

This next flight was not full, and there were 3 seats on one side and 2 on the other side. Brian had no one sitting next to him, so we moved Joshua over to his side and Alyssa got to have her own seat.

day1b.jpg

Actually, Alyssa did really well on these flights. (Now our flights home, on the other hand, are another story for later!)

We landed around 1:30 p.m.

My favorite part about the Orlando airport--the monorail that takes you from the terminal to the baggage claim. It makes me feel like we are at Disney World already!

day1c.jpg

We were using Disney's Magical Express transportation to our resort, so we did not have to wait for our baggage. Besides, we got a text from Delta saying that our "bags did not travel as intended" and one ended up in Kansas City. Oh my, I hope we get our bags before we leave for the cruise! We had all packed a swim suit and a change of clothes in our carry-on backpacks in case we ran into this exact situation.

We went to the Magical Express part of the airport and it was empty! I think there was one other family in the entire place. I guess I've never arrived on a Thursday before, everyone must arrive on the weekends.

We waited about 5 minutes to board a bus, then a few families boarded after us and we headed to our resort!

day1d.jpg

day1e.jpg

Our Magical Express bus was servicing 3 Disney resorts, but luckily we were the first stop! We arrived at Caribbean Beach Resort around 3:00 p.m.

I had done online check-in a few days before, so I went right up to that counter and picked up our room keys. There was a children's waiting area in the lobby:

day1f.jpg

I may have mentioned this before in my pre-trip report...Caribbean Beach Resort was the first onsite Disney resort I stayed at (around 15 or so years ago). I've stayed at a few others since then, but in my memories this was my favorite onsite resort. It has over 2000 rooms and is very spread out, serene and beautiful. The resort rooms are divided into different Caribbean countries, all centered around a lake. There are beaches with hammocks around the lake.

day1fb.jpg

day1fa.jpg

I took this picture early one morning:
day1fc.jpg

Ok, so I am not the type of person to be picky about a room location, but according to my research on the DIS boards many people prefer their room location to be close to the main pirate pool. I asked my travel agent to request Jamaica building 45 for us, but I figured I would not be disappointed if we did not get it. Because I don't want to have my heart set on specific things and be disappointed on vacation.

When we checked in, I found out that our room was indeed in Jamaica 45! So just a quick walk over the bridge in the middle of the lake to get to the main pirate pool, and also close to a bus stop. Cool!

day1g.jpg

At the check-in desk they gave us a folder with a map, park hours, and the June resort activities schedule. Who knew there was a nightly campfire and an outdoor movie? I think we could have stayed these 3 days at the resort without ever going to the parks and the kids would have had just as much fun!

We took an internal bus to get to our room, since we didn't yet have our big suitcases and the bellhops had a longer line to transport people by vans.

Our room was on the 2nd floor. This resort does not have elevators, so if you need a 1st floor room you must request it. The 2nd floor was not a problem for us, we just folded up Alyssa's stroller when we needed to go up/down the stairs.

day1ga.jpg

The rooms are just standard hotel rooms. 2 double beds with Finding Nemo bedspreads. Fish wallpaper boarder on top. TV, table/chairs, bathroom. Alyssa's pack-n-play crib was already set up for us.

day1i.jpg

day1j.jpg

day1k.jpg

So our kids had been up since 4:45 a.m. and had not slept at all thus far. Brian decided to stay back in the room to see if Alyssa would nap while I took the boys to the pool.

Here is the bridge near our building that took us to a small island (with a playground and hammocks) which then took us to the main building area with the pirate pool and food court.

day1l.jpg

The main building area at Caribbean Beach resort has a very festive feel to it, unlike the room buildings which are quiet and peaceful. The main pool is really quite large and has several sections. I took these pictures one morning when nobody was there:

day1lb.jpg

day1la.jpg

There is a zero-entry area, a separate 3-foot section for smaller kids, and a bigger deeper section where 2 larger water slides empty. They also had life jackets available, so I strapped one onto Josh (he is used to wearing a swim vest at home) and both boys went down the big water slides. Many, many times.

There is also a kiddie pool for kids 48" or less. Nathan barely made it in there. There were 3 smaller water slides in this pool area, and some water squirters on the back as well. There is also a big bucket at the top that gradually fills up and dumps a large amount of water down every few minutes.

day1m.jpg

day1n.jpg

day1o.jpg

It had started to rain lightly, then more heavily, and the pool started to clear out. We were already wet anyway, so we figured we'd stay. Eventually, lightning was spotted in the area so they closed down the pool and we went back to our room.

It was now about 5:00 p.m. Our luggage still hadn't made it. We showered and got dressed. At 6:00 p.m., we went to the bus stop and took a bus to Downtown Disney. It was really pouring rain at this point. We had umbrellas and ponchos but we still got drenched.

We made our way to Earl of Sandwich to meet our friends, the Clutes. They both work for Disney and their son was in the same room at the orphanage in Russia with our oldest son. We met through our blogs in 2006/2007 and followed eachother's journey as we brought our sons home. I remember meeting their son Victor on one of our visits to the orphanage. He came running over to us trying to tell us something but the caretakers made him go back to the group. We've been so fortunate to meet up with Victor and his family 3 times now since the boys have been in the United States.

Earl of Sandwich was crowded and freezing cold, so we went next door to Wolfgang Puck Express. We got a chance to catch up with the Clutes and the boys were pretty crazy and loud!

day1p.jpg

We would have liked to enjoy Downtown Disney a bit more, but it was still pouring rain. So we hitched a ride home in the Clute's minivan and headed back to our hotel room. We had an early morning the next day, so it was time to get to bed!

And the good news was, when we got back to our room, our luggage had arrived from Kansas City!

Thank you!

PS--I grew up in Littleton, went to college near KC.

It's a small world. :) Moved from KC 4 years ago and live in South Denver now.

Great update...scary about the misinformation from Delta/TSA...glad you made your flight and your luggage finally made it.

Excellent news on the shorts. Packing today for our trip!!! I have a 8 year old boy, so I can't wait to here about what your son liked to do!

He will have so much fun! I asked our son what he liked most about this vacation. His response was: "Everything, except Joshua's behavior!" (he and his brother still had their normal fighting and squabbling on this trip).

He gravitated to the Oceaneer Lab over the Club. He loved the Aqua Duck and the Mickey slide. He saw Avengers in the movie theater. He also liked sitting by the pool and watching movies on the jumbo torn.

For both boys, Scuttles Cove on CC was a big hit! I hadn't heard a lot of positive things about Scuttles Cove on this board, but both of my boys stayed there a few hours each CC day and never paged us to come get them.

(I think I mentioned part of this in my pre-trip report)

When we found out that our trip coincided with Star Wars Weekend, we knew we'd have to take Nathan to Hollywood Studios before our cruise. We kept debating about what to do with our other kids. Hollywood Studios is not my favorite park for little kids. There are a lot of shows there (my kids have historically not had the attention spans for shows), and the rides are a little over their heads. My 4-year-old also likes Star Wars, but would he be afraid of the characters?

After many back and forth discussions, we decided that I would take Joshua and Alyssa to EPCOT while Brian took Nathan to Hollywood Studios for Star Wars Weekend.

I have about 40 pictures from our EPCOT day to share, so I will break this down into 2 posts.

I forgot to mention, the previous night after we returned from Downtown Disney, I hopped the bridge over to the main building to get breakfast for the next day from the resort food court's "Grab and Go" section. The Grab and Go section was convenient--they had cereal, bagels, donuts, nutri-grain bars, yogurt, drinks, etc. I just got some juice and yogurt since I had brought nutri-grain bars from home.

Brian and I woke up at 6:15 a.m. (5:15 a.m. back home!) Once we started stirring Alyssa popped up out of her crib right away (she's a really light sleeper) and then in no time the boys were up. We had already showered the night before, and we had our clothes laid out, so we just got dressed and ate breakfast in the room.

Now I was a little nervous about going to EPCOT by myself with a 4-year-old and a 1-year old. I had no idea how they would do, how I would do, or how long we would make it that day. But EPCOT is my favorite park and I think it's a a great park for little ones, so we may as well just go for it! I really wanted to make it to all the countries around the World Showcase that day, since we hadn't been able to accomplish that the previous 2 times we were at Disney World with kids. I also really wanted to see the singers at the American pavilion. But would that be possible today?

We got to the bus stop shortly after 7 a.m. EPCOT had an extra magic early opening at 8 a.m. for Disney resort guests only. There were a handful of people at the bus stop already and we saw this frog on the wall:

day2a.jpg

When the EPCOT bus arrived, I took Alyssa out of her stroller and proceeded to fold up the stroller for the bus ride. This was going to be the hardest part. A kind lady saw I had my hands full and took the stroller on the bus for me. Yay! I would learn today that I needed to depend on the kindness of strangers to survive this park outing.

When we were on the bus, Joshua insisted on going all the way to the back row where the seats span the entire width of the bus. Sitting just in front of us was a sweet family from South Carolina with the most curious 5-year-old girl with a deep southern accent. "Ma'am, how many are you?" "I'm 39". I should have said 29, based on her reaction! "Is that a girl or a boy?" (referring to Alyssa. I get that question a lot. She has no hair.)

We got off the bus and walked to the front gate. Joshua saw the monorail circling above and asked if we could ride on that. I said maybe later, because the monorail goes to the Magic Kingdom and we were not going there today.

It was about 7:45 a.m. and a small crowd had gathered waiting for the park to open early at 8 a.m. Just before 8, some cast members started checking resort room keys and they opened more turnstile lines. Despite the crowd, we were inside the gates at 8:05 a.m.

day2b.jpg

I wanted to get our picture taken at the front of the park in front of the "big ball", but there was only 1 photopass photographer out there and we waited in a short line for him. Joshua was not too happy about taking this picture and so he stood there with a big sour face. Oh well.

Most of the people were heading over to The Land building to ride the Soarin' ride. We couldn't do that one due to height restrictions, so my plan was to get on Spaceship Earth first. When I got close to it I could see that it hadn't opened yet. I asked and they said it would be 20 or 30 minutes until it was ready. So we headed over to The Land building to ride the boat ride inside. Then we stopped in the foot court there to share a muffin.

Next we went to the Living Seas building. We looked at the Nemo stuff outside and then got on the Finding Nemo ride:

day2c.jpg

The ride dropped us off inside the aquarium. The kids played for a while in this interactive room. Joshua wanted his picture inside Bruce the shark.

day2d.jpg

I expected the kids to want to stay a long time in The Living Seas, since it is so big and my kids usually love aquariums. But Joshua said he wanted move on, so we did.

Our next stop was the Journey Into Imagination ride. Joshua loved this one and asked if we could ride it again. The kids also liked the interactive play area after the ride. (I have some video of them there).

day2e.jpg

At the gift shop on the way out, we bought 2 purple Figments. After all, where else can you get a Figment? They were happy.

day2f.jpg

Then we went outside to the part of the building where Captain EO is and enjoyed the fountains for a while. This is one of my favorite spots at EPCOT--it's never very crowded and the jumping fountains are very entertaining!

day2g.jpg

After enjoying the fountains for a while, we went to ride Spaceship Earth. The sign said the wait was 30 minutes, but our actual wait time was only about 15 minutes. (I should mention that until Spaceship Earth, none of our previous 3 rides had any lines, we walked right on). While standing in line for Spaceship Earth, in the weaving queue, I saw a friend from high school! What a surprise to see someone I know from so far away in such a busy place! I had planned on waiting for her after we got off the ride to chat more, but unfortunately my kids took off in different directions and I went to chase after them. What a small world, though!

Joshua liked Spaceship Earth. He liked the interactive part at the end where I let him be the one to choose our space adventure.

As I was chasing after both kids, we saw that Daisy and Stitch were signing autographs not too far from Spaceship Earth. I asked Joshua if he wanted to meet them, and he said yes. (I wasn't sure about this, because last time he was at Disney World about 2 years ago he hated the characters and screamed and cried if they came near).

But this time, he did great!

day2h.jpg

day2i.jpg

Alyssa just kind of stared at the characters, she didn't know what to think.

Next we dropped by Club Cool for a bit. Club Cool has several different Coca-Cola flavors from around the world that you can try for free. A big hit on a hot day!

day2j.jpg

day2k.jpg

After Club Cool, we went to the Brave playground/games section. This area just opened on June 1.

day2l.jpg

There was a small line to play the games that we didn't wait in, but the kids enjoyed the playground and I think Alyssa needed a break from the stroller.

day2m.jpg

day2n.jpg

It was getting close to lunch time and we had a lunch reservation, and Alyssa had a stinky diaper, so I went in search of a bathroom. I ran into this companion bathroom that was vacant, so that made it real easy for me to change Alyssa's diaper while Joshua went to the bathroom. (This sounds insignificant, but when you are doing the parks alone with small kids, a bathroom we can all fit into together makes it so much easier!)

day2o.jpg

We had 12:00 lunch reservations at Les Chefs de France in the France pavilion in the World Showcase section of EPCOT. I decided early on that I would make a sit-down restaurant reservation for lunch because carrying a fast food tray with a stroller or going through a buffet line with 2 small kids just wasn't going to be easy on me.

Here are the kids right outside "France":

day2p.jpg

We got seated very quickly, as the restaurant just opened at noon. We got a table in the corner and had nobody else sitting next to us for our entire lunch.

day2q.jpg

As soon as we were seated inside, we could hear it start to rain very hard outside. Whew, we ducked that one!

I had a quiche and a salad. The kids had chicken strips and fries. And we shared a delicious chocolate mousse for dessert.

day2r.jpg

Of course the highlight of this restaurant is the roaming dessert cart, with Remy (the rat from Ratatouille).

Here is the video I took at lunch:

Thanks for posting the nursery info. Haven't seen that before and even though we are not cruising with our infant next year I do forsee future cruises with her. Great info!

How cold was the AC in the dining rooms and other public areas? Do we need a light sweater with our summer dresses?

Thanks

Yhea! A trip report about the same trip I was on!

Hi.

I was there. On the same boat, same dates. And in the parks (only at Coronado Springs) the days before. I also ran the Castaway Cay 5K (Monday) and I did FE! :)

Can't WAIT to see your pics! We had such an amazing trip........

I miss it already!

Nice video (and all the rest of the photos :thumbsup2 )... what software did you use for your video?

Thanks...

I cannot say enough good things about the nursery! The staff was great with our daughter. I would not hesitate to bring an infant or toddler on a Disney Cruise. Our daughter also enjoyed the open house at the Oceaneer Lab.

We did not have a problem with being cold inside the Dream. Me and my daughter wore sleeveless dresses a lot. (We were cold inside a few places at Disney World, however. Our resort food court was freezing!) If you have the room, I'd throw them in your suitcase just in case.

Too bad we didn't meet! How did you like the 5k? I was towards the back of the pack huffin' and puffin'. I'm glad you had an amazing time!

Thanks! I used iMovie on my Mac laptop. It's really easy to make the video. The harder part was sorting through 1700 photos and videos and organizing them and picking which ones to put in!

OK, where were we? We had just finished up our lunch at Les Chefs de France. And luckily, the rain had just stopped! I wanted to see if we could make it around the World Showcase. I was hoping that Alyssa would fall asleep in her stroller for her daily nap while Joshua and I toured the world.

So we started our journey. Joshua has amazing stamina for being only 4 years old! No stroller for him!

Here we are in Japan overlooking the lake:
day2s.jpg

We walked to the American pavilion and I was excited to see that the Voices of Liberty were performing in 4 minutes! YES! I would get to hear them again.

No strollers allowed inside, so I parked it outside and we went in. The first song they sang was This Land is Your Land. Fantastic! If you haven't heard this group sing, I highly recommend it.

day2t.jpg

So Joshua was just sitting down enthralled with these singers, but Alyssa had other plans. She kept running for the exit and leaving the building. And there were 2 ways out, and she kept alternating and I kept chasing. She was not happy about being in there and had no problem vocalizing that. She was being a little disruptive to their performance, so after the first song I decided we needed to leave. Joshua was not happy, he wanted to stay and so did I. Maybe next time!

Close to Italy there are some bridges and I let Alyssa run off some steam there.

day2u.jpg

day2v.jpg

We stopped for a few minutes to watch these entertainers in Italy:

day2w.jpg

We also stopped in Germany to watch these model trains. I've never done that before in all the times I've been at EPCOT. It's actually quite a big display, with several running trains.

day2x.jpg

Of course we had to stop at the gift shop in Norway, which is probably the most fun gift shop in all of EPCOT! (Alyssa was not tall enough for the boat ride in Norway--maybe next time!)

day2y.jpg

day2z.jpg

And lastly, we made it to Mexico and road the boat ride inside. Mexico is my favorite country in EPCOT. The theming inside the pyramid is outstanding!

So we made it all the way around the World Showcase! And Alyssa hadn't fallen asleep and didn't show signs that she would. So, I figured we'd just continue as normal. It was time to go to Innoventions and go to the special picture area for Disney Visa cardholders. This is a perk with this credit card--a special character greeting and a free 5X7 picture.

When we found where it was, there was a line. I kept Alyssa in the stroller while Joshua went off to play some games nearby me in Innoventions.

We waited in line probably 20 minutes, and during that time, of course Alyssa fell asleep. I got to chatting with the mom in line in front of me to pass the time. Alyssa was still asleep when we got to meet Goofy and Minnie.

day2za.jpg

But I still liked the way our picture turned out!
day2zaa.jpg

While we were standing in line, I saw some people get in line that looked familiar. So after our picture we went up to them and sure enough, it was Bret and Sherri from our DIS cruise group! (I think their DIS names are Time4Disney and Capttigger). I had recognized them from their pictures on Facebook.

Since Alyssa was still asleep and it was really cool inside, I let Joshua play in Innoventions for a while. I hadn't been in Innoventions in years--I remember going there back in the '80s as a kid and it seemed like every video screen was broken. It was so different today! They had several interactive games to play, but unfortunately I could not take the stroller into some of those areas and I did not want to wake Alyssa up.

day2zb.jpg

day2zc.jpg

Time for an afternoon snack--a Mickey ice cream bar of course! We went back to the fountains by Journey into Imagination to eat our snack and hang out for a while. Alyssa had woken up.

day2zd.jpg

day2ze.jpg

It was getting to be later in the day at this point--around 4:00. I asked Joshua if there was anything he wanted to ride again. He decided we should ride the Nemo ride again. So we did.

day2zf.jpg

Then we went to the photo area to pick up our free picture. I ran into the same family that was standing in line in front of us at the photo shoot earlier in the day.

Joshua kept saying he wanted to ride the monorail. And I thought, what the heck?! I guess we can ride it to Magic Kingdom and then just ride it back. So I talked to the Cast Member at the monorail and he said we could take a round-trip ride and just stay on it at the Magic Kingdom. So that's what we did.

day2zg.jpg

We got off the monorail at EPCOT and went to our bus stop. We decided to get off at the food court stop at Caribbean Beach and grab a quick dinner. Here is the food court at Caribbean Beach:

day2zh.jpg

Now I had Alyssa in a stroller and was trying to also carry one tray with all our food on it. And who did I run into, the mom from the photo shoot in EPCOT! She was also staying at our resort. She offered to carry our tray and I was so grateful!

day2zi.jpg

Joshua wanted to go to the resort pool again before bed. So we had to go back to our room to change first. On the way back, we decided to stop on the island and hang out on the hammocks and in the playground for a while:

day2zj.jpg

day2zk.jpg

When we crossed the bridge to get to our building, we saw some people fishing in the lake:

day2zl.jpg

We changed and went to the kiddie pool. It was easier for me to keep track of both of them in this pool since it's gated.

day2zm.jpg

day2zn.jpg

day2zo.jpg

The kids loved that pool!

Overall, I have to say that we had a great time at EPCOT. Despite the brief period of rain, the weather was really, really pleasant. It only got up to the mid-80s (so unusual for Orlando in June!) And EPCOT was not crowded at all! I think this is the least-busy I've ever seen EPCOT. I'm guessing it's because one of the main rides, Test Track, is closed for the summer and that detracts people from visiting. I love Test Track, but EPCOT has so many other cool things to see! I think it's a great place for kids, too. We didn't even do the Phineas and Ferb interactive game that's spread all over the park or the kidcot stations. Maybe next time.

So the next installment of this trip report will include details of what the other half of the family was doing on Day 2--Star Wars Weekend at Hollywood Studios!
