I have been to DL two or three times over the years but not in a few years.

I am considering a couple of options for this year.

I would love any and all info the DL experts could give me. I will be traveling with my wife and 3 sons (11, 5, 3).

Option #1. Drive to DL (from Iowa). Stop at the GC and Las Vegas spending a day or so at each. Then on to DL for about 3 days. Then a couple of days doing other things in the LA area. Be gone a total of about 10-11 days. I would start this trip on August 2nd or 3rd.

Option #2. Fly to DL for 3 days and spend about 2 days in LA area. Fly out on Friday and come home on a Wednesday. This trip would start on November 2nd. This option would also require the two oldest to miss 3 days of school.

Which one would you do and why. I just have some boys who would LOVE the new Carsland and I would really love to be able to get them there. I want to do it on a reasonable budget and I just feel like if we are driving, then the cost of the 10 day trip would be pretty close to the cost of the 5 day trip.

I would want to be in DL during the summer on week days, and see well more sites in California and along the way. In DL during max hours, entertainment too there will be crowds but using early and late hours and FastPass it is workable time to visit.

In Nov, you will probably have a few rehabs, short hours and no fireworks, and it will be when Halloween Decoratioins are going down and Christmas going up. But low crowds.

The major reason we want to go is CarsLand. My son who is 3 and will be at the time we go, turns 4 in Oct. He is about the same size as my 5 year old. Will he be able to enjoy most of CarsLand's rides? Is there a place where the height requirements are listed?

Radiator Springs Racers is 40"

Luigi's Flying tires is likely to be in the 30s

I saw an unofficial indication that Mater's Junkyard Jamboree will be either 32" or 36" but can't remember exactly what was said.

We are set to go this summer and have been checking airfare non stop everyday for months. The fares are just so high! Well, I have been checking on flying to Vegas or some other place and then driving the rest of it. It finally happened. Denver to LAX right now is $72 each way. We are going to drive to Denver and take in Colorado Springs and Pike's Peak and then fly the rest of it. We are going to save over $1000 in doing this. We can usually fly between 1000 and 1500 but this year with gas prices it just wasn't going to happen. We debated driving out but it would take us over 24 hours in a car alone. If we did we could hit vegas and Grand Canyon like you stated but there is more we want to do in SoCal so we did the other. Good luck on deciding. I would fly if I could. Ages 5 and 3 won't appreciate the Grand Canyon and other stuff along the way. I would get there as fast as possible. Just my two cents.

Thanks for the input.

Airfare is a killer right now. We fly out of Minneapolis of Des Moines and just cant find a decent deal right now. I am just so torn on what to do.

Why can't you fly in august ?

I would fly if possible, add 1 more day to DLR , and use only one day to see the ocean if that is a priority.......

Try pricing with Southwest or Alaska airlines vacations packages.
