**A Disney Salute! June 2011 Military Discount/Anniversary PTR!** Update 6/23 Pg 12

Hey, I understand you not wanting to be tied down with reservations especially when you will have nice weather.

I look forward to reading about your CS choices as well as the ADRs you do keep :)

LOL, I was wondering if you would post about this today! :rotfl: Yay, I'm so happy for you! I really want to do the same thing! Although, I suppose once I'm there, I could cancel an ADR and do something else if I really feel the need to! :confused3

I've been pricing things out with the DDP vs OOP...it seems like you pretty much break even. And I've been doing some research on the DIS and it seems like you only save money if you order the most expensive thing on the menu. I'm going to bring it up to Brandon and see what he says, but I'm guessing I'll keep the DDP for this trip, and hopefully not do it for the next one.

That being said, I'm going over my itinerary and ADR's tonight to see if I can free up some time and cancel and/or shuffle around some ADR's so we have a little more freedom to just do whatever! It's hard though, because honestly, our park hours for the week we are going are awful! I love EMH nights, and there are 3 in a row when we first get there, Sunday, Monday and Tuesday and then that's it for the week. So I'm having a tough time planning this trip!

Ugh...sorry, I didn't mean to hijack your PTR! :goodvibes I definitely think you made the right decision, canceling the DDP! :dance3:

Thank you! :) I'm really happy about this choice!

It's good to know that you pretty much break even too, because now I don't feel guilty!

I hope you are able to free up some time on your trip to relax. I know that you must be stressed about all of those bunched up EMHs! I always try to do every EMH on our trip but it gets exhausting if they're right there together!

Don't apologize! I love hearing about your plans!

As much as I love TS meals, I completely understand your feelings! Getting to ADR's can be stressful at times, especially if it's an in-park restaurant and you're trying to time out what attractions you have time for (as we've both experienced). Sometimes, I feel like my whole day is built around our meals! I think after being on the DDxP, not doing the dining plan and having less structured meals will be nice. :thumbsup2

That's exactly how I feel, like my whole day is planned around food! I'm looking forward to some freedom! :goodvibes

I am excited because my mom just told me she wants to stay at POR for our big summer trip next year! I am SO excited for the refurbed rooms!!! :woohoo:

I am so excited about that discount!! :yay: The Poly has always been on my Disney "bucket list," so I am thrilled to finally stay there!

I just bought Tangled on DVD today!!! I can't wait to surprise my lil' sis! :goodvibes

I own the first six seasons, and I watch them ALL the time! That show is so great. Reminds me of my childhood. :lovestruc

And as to dropping the DDP, I say go for it. Keep a couple of your favorite ADR's, and then do CS for the rest. Try some of the places in WS that you never have, I've eaten at most of them and loved them all! :thumbsup2 Plus, doing mainly CS will give you a lot more flexibility and free time. :wizard:

That's so cool that you get to stay at POR next summer! :thumbsup2

The Poly is on my Disney bucket list too!! I am hoping we can stay there for a really special occasion like our 5th anniversary or something! :goodvibes

Yay for getting Tangled! I bet your little sis was so excited!

That's why I love Full House so much too; it reminds me of my childhood! I am about the same age as the Olson twins, so I remember watching when I was little and thinking they were SO cool! :lmao:

I definitely want to try some CS restaurants in the WS! I have only ever had the Mexican place, so I need to experiment!

Having also done the DxDP in December, I know exactly what you mean! We spent way too much eating, and during the busier times, you already get less accomplished in the parks, so add in 6 hours of eating everyday, and you are left with not enough time. If we don't get free dining for our trip, we will be doing all OOP too. The prices seem to be pretty even paying OOP and buying the plan. Of course, I am still hoping for free dining in the fall, because if it's free, we will definitely take it! :lmao:

You are so right! This is why we ended up missing so many attractions in December! All we did was eat!

Free dining, however, is a whole different story! :thumbsup2

Good for you! I'm glad you figured that out before you got there and regretted all the ADRs. Everyone is different and trips can be different too. Have fun and eat good food wherever you are.

Thank you! :) I am really glad I decided this when I did because today is our 45 day mark, so we would have been charged a fee if I had waited!

Hey, I understand you not wanting to be tied down with reservations especially when you will have nice weather.

I look forward to reading about your CS choices as well as the ADRs you do keep :)

Yes, I am definitely wanting to be out in the warm weather after our freezing cold trip last time!

I am getting ready to post that update now! :)

I'm so glad y'all were so understanding about my DDP cancellation decision! I was worried everyone would think I was crazy! :rotfl:

Now that I have decided on that it was really easy for me to decide on ADRs! Once I stopped worrying about using all my dining credits I just thought about where I really wanted to eat and went with it!

Day 1- June 11, 2011

newptr18.jpg

I decided to change our Planet Hollywood ADR to an earlier dinner at T-Rex. John is a dinosaur nut, so this is pretty much his favorite restaurant. Now that we are off the DDP I didn't have to worry about paying for it OOP! :thumbsup2 We will be eating her at 4:00 on our arrival day.

Day 2- June 12, 2011

newptr4.jpg

I kept our plans for Sci Fi, but I changed the reservation from dinner to lunch. I actually like the lunch menu here better than the dinner menu, and it will save us some money! Our ADR is now at 11:45. That was a little too early for my taste, but I figure by the time we're seated and everything it will be after 12, so it's okay.

For dinner on this evening we had originally planned for Tony's Town Square, but I decided to cancel that. Instead I want to try a CS restaurant at Magic Kingdom that we've never had before. It might be one of these two:

newptr14.jpg

"Casey at the Bat" is one of my favorite poems. I always teach it to my students when we study narrative poems because it's a nice break from reading "The Raven" over and over again. I'm not sure why I've never eaten here before!

newptr15.jpg

There's nothing John likes more than a good burger, and I've heard awesome reviews on the DIS about the fixins bar here, so we might have to give Pecos Bill a try!

Day 3- June 13, 2011

We no longer have and ADRs for this day. We will be at Animal Kingdom in the morning and DHS in the evening, so I know there are tons of great places to grab a yummy CS meal, not to mention great snacks! :thumbsup2

Day 4- June 14, 2011

newptr10.jpg

For this day I kept our lunch ADR at Tokyo Dining. Like I said before, John loves the sushi here so I'm not going to cancel it. I was planning on paying for this meal OOP anyway, so it's all good!

For dinner I am sure we will try one of the many delicious CS options in the World Showcase. I also plan on doing a ton of heavy duty snacking at this place:

newptr17.png

Day 5- June 15, 2011

newptr6.jpg

I decided to keep the 10:00 breakfast ADR at Grand Floridian Cafe for this day. I think it will be a really special breakfast and it's totally worth paying OOP for it!

I am still a tiny bit unsure about dinner for this day, but I am thinking we will probably just eat in the POR food court. Plus I want to walk over to the POFQ food court and get some of these babies:

newptr16.jpg

Yummy! :lovestruc

Day 6- June 16,2011

This is our last full day, so I cancelled all ADRs. We are just going to have CS meals at Magic Kingdom and Epcot. There are more than enough choices, so I'm sure we'll be very happy. Also, this gives us tons of park time! :goodvibes

Alrighty folks that's it! Those are my finalized dining plans. I will be posting our daily schedule plans in more detail later, I promise! I know our park hopping plans are probably pretty confusing.

Thanks again for all of your input! I really appreciate it! :grouphug:

By the way, I got all of these pictures from Google!

Up Next: MORE trip shopping! Stay tuned! ;)

Your dining plans look great, Joni! You picked so many good places. Grand Floridian Cafe looks beautiful.

Your ADR's look great! I'm glad your happy about your choices now! :thumbsup2

TRex looks like so much fun, I love the Rainforest Cafe, and TRex sounds even better!

And the GF Cafe will be fun, it's always nice to visit the GF! I would really like to find the time to resort hop a little on my trip, but...my schedule is so packed, I don't know where I can do that!

Do you know, in all my trips to Disney I still have not eaten at Casey's? I want to try those corn dog nuggets I keep hearing about! :)

Yay on your new list of dining choices! :cheer2:

I hope you don't mind but I feel compelled to go through the choices and comment.

I love T-Rex and having read so many great reviews if it was on the dining plan we would have definitely be eating at this Restaurant-o-saurus! (My lame attempt at humour! :upsidedow)

I am glad you have kept Sci-fi and get to dine at the movies! The time sounds okay as like you said by the time you get seated etc it will be past 12.

I like the look of both Casey's and Peco's Bill but the latter would sway it because of the famous toppings bar!

Looking forward to the yummy snacks you choose - will it include a yummy Starring Rolls Cupcake! popcorn::

Ooh Karamelle Kuche - my ideal living place! It sounds soo devine! :rotfl:

Yay on keeping GFC in order to relive Full House moments and am also looking forward to trying the Beignets :thumbsup2

Got to love more shopping! ;)

Haha, just to let you know, I went to the Disney Store within the past 2 weeks and ended up buying 2 new shirts. I'm going to blame it on YOU so that I don't have to take responsibility for my actions, haha. Maybe I've been hanging around middle school kids too much ...

I love the update you wrote about meeting Jim Shore. I saw the pics on FB, but this was so detailed! I love how he was so so so sweet. I'm curious to know the demographic of the other people who were there waiting to meet him.

Wow, you have a lot of decisions to make regarding your ADRs! Haha, I'm excited all over again about seeing your food reviews, especially for the places you didn't try last time. I think for the upcoming trips Howard and I will have, we're going to try new restaurants even though we loved the ones we tried this past trip (and that was only 2: Le Cellier and 'Ohana). There are so many options! We won't be able to try many restaurants at a time because we won't ever do DDP. I do like the freedom of ordering whatever I want especially since there are some restaurants where I'd rather order 2-3 appetizers instead or split meals. I'm hoping to try 1 new one (TS or CS) during the trip with my family, and then maybe we can try 3 or so on our Disneymoon (incl BOMA since we'll be at AKL!).

My only suggestion is to not do 'Ohana so late because when I did all the research for this place, I know some people complained that the food wasn't the greatest when it was later at night. I was so worried that it would ruin the experience for us, so that's why I made sure we had an ADR around 7pm.

HAHA, and then I get to your next update and see that you've cancelled DDP! I'm curious to see which ADRs you did keep. We all liked only having those 2 because the other times were so freeing. We ate when we were hungry. If we were only slightly hungry, we split a meal and then later on, we would split something else.

As I've mentioned before to you, I think, I really like "Casey at the Bat"! I don't think I could ever get my 8th grade ELA class into "The Raven" though. They prefer the short stories with the bloody murderous revenge, haha.

PECOS BILL WAS SO GOOD! I mean, I had just a simple cheeseburger, but it was so fun being able to add whatever toppings I wanted. I know it sounds weird because it's not that that special. I mean, they're onions. Haha, I don't know why I thought that because the onions I had were so good. I thought they'd be mushy, but they were still crispy, which I really liked. Plus, I <3 cheese sauce on burgers AND fries.

Your choices look great! I only have experience with a couple of them, Casey's and Sci-Fi.

Caseys was good. Typical hotdogs, but they were good. And the kids loved the little corn dog nuggets.

Sci-Fi was really good too. :)

Sounds great!!! :thumbsup2 I usually eat at mostly CS places to ensure that I get as much park time as possible, and you chose two of my favorites! Casey's Corner and Peco's Bill's - if you go to Casey's, you MUST try the corn dog nuggets! They are amazing!!! :cloud9: Ahhh, to be there now... :rotfl:

Your updates have been so photo-rich. Not a word, probably not even a hyphenated word. I just didn't know how else to describe them. I'm loving it though! Where are you swiping your pics from? Or have you actually gone around taking pictures of all the Disney eateries as well as the FP stations? :goodvibes

Other than that, my mouth is now watering. I am thinking of trying some of those beignets on our Christmas trip in 2013 as I plan on touring several of the resorts just to see decorations and try "local" foods.

I think your ADRs look really good! I totally understand about the DDP. If we planned another trip so close, I doubt I would do the DDP and just pay OOP for places we really wanted to eat at. I think you'll have so much more park time by picking CS over TS. I can't wait to hear all about it. I am so dying to eat at T-Rex one of these days!

Yay! :welcome: I'm so glad you're here! You will hold a special place in my heart forever, my first DIS meet! :)

Aww, that's sweet of you to say. I'm happy to have met you.

Your reasoning behind canceling the dining plan makes sense. Save the planning around ADRs and TS for a future trip, besides having it everyday makes it less special - especially if you aren't eating it all.

I'm very interested in hearing about dinner at T-Rex. All in all your final dining plans look excellent.

Great plans! :thumbsup2 I like how flexible the QSDP can be, especially if you only want a few ADR's. I'll have to actually try it one day!

I love Casey's Corner! It's a classic. And Pecos Bill's fixin's bar is my fave. :)

Enjoy your beignets and Karamell Kuche. I want those marshmallows with chocolate and caramel SO BAD.

T-REX and Sci-Fi are sooo yummy! And nicely priced too! :yay:

I've never eaten at Tokyo Dining, and I rarely see reviews on it, so I can't wait for yours. It looks like a place I would definitely like!

The WS QS options are my favorite. :goodvibes I love all the variety!

I'm glad you stuck with the GF Cafe. :cloud9: Enjoy your Full House moment and mimosas!

Joining in! Your PTR has been so much fun to read.
Amusingly enough, my DF and I went to Disney in December and didn't think we'd be able to go back again, but with the military discounts we were able to snag a quick trip this summer, as well. :thumbsup2 Gotta love Disney giving such wonderful discounts.

I think you made a wise decision by taking off the DP and paying OOP for the TS restaurants you want. You'll be able to relax a little more and enjoy the atmosphere without being preoccupied by so many reservation times.

Love that you kept a Sci-Fi ADR, though! The lunch there is so delicious and the atmosphere can't be beat!

Your dining plans look great, Joni! You picked so many good places. Grand Floridian Cafe looks beautiful.

Thank you! :) I'm really looking forward to Grand Floridian Cafe!

Your ADR's look great! I'm glad your happy about your choices now! :thumbsup2

Thank you! Oh, and thanks for helping me with my DDP decision! I know I was blowing up your phone with texts for a while there! :rotfl:

I love Rainforest Cafe too, but I definitely like T-Rex more!

I have never been to GF so I am really excited! I know it's going to make me want to stay there though! :rolleyes1

I am really excited to try Casey's! I have always called those things "corn puppies"! :lmao: I'm weird.

Nice ADRs!!! I'm glad the stress is over with now!!

Thank you! :) I am so glad to be stress free now!

:upsidedow)

Got to love more shopping! ;)

I don't mind at all! I love the comments, and I really appreciate how in depth you are!

Hopefully someday T-Rex will be on the DDP! I don't see why it isn't already! :confused3 I love your joke, by the way!

I was a little hesitant about such an early lunch at Sci Fi, but I think it will be okay. I love eating there! It's my favorite!

The toppings bar at Pecos Bill's is tempting! Maybe I will get to try both, since we will be at MK more than one day!

I think my snacks will definitely include a Starring Rolls cupcake! The Butterfinger cupcake is AMAZING!

I agree on living in Karamell Kuche! That would be heavenly!

I am really looking forward to reliving Full House, but I know I am going to embarass John! I plan on acting out all of the scenes, including Steve tripping in the lobby! :lmao:

Haha, just to let you know, I went to the Disney Store within the past 2 weeks and ended up buying 2 new shirts. I'm going to blame it on YOU so that I don't have to take responsibility for my actions, haha. Maybe I've been hanging around middle school kids too much ...

Plus, I <3 cheese sauce on burgers AND fries.

:lmao: I don't mind one bit if you blame me for your Disney Store shopping! I will gladly take the blame. I am a bad influence when it comes to spending money!

I'm glad you enjoyed the Jim Shore update! It was such a special experience. The rest of there people there to meet him were pretty much old ladies. Honestly, I think I was one of the only people under the age of 50 there.

There are so many restaurants at Disney, I don't know if I'll ever try them all! Especially since I have some favorites (like Sci Fi) that I MUST have every trip! I think it's a good idea to try a few new places each trip.

I am looking forward to having a lot of freedom without the DDP on this trip!

I understand about your students. Mine love the depressing revenge stories too! Their favorite story we read was "A Rose for Emily" by William Faulkner, when the crazy old lady keeps the dead body of her ex-fiancee and sleeps next to it for years.

I love your Pecos Bill review! We definitely need to eat there. I get what you're saying about the toppings bar. That can be very satisfying! Plus, I really love a place with fresh non-mushy toppings! :thumbsup2

I like T-Rex, we actually have one here in town that we have been to a few times. I know they are owned by the same people as Rainforest Cafe, but I think their food is way better than RC!

We tried Casey's last year and it was good. The line moved SLOOOOOWLY though, so try to hit it at a less busy time! I had the corn dog nuggets, and they were delish!

Maybe we will try Pecos Bills too... it sounds yummy!

Your choices look great! I only have experience with a couple of them, Casey's and Sci-Fi.

Caseys was good. Typical hotdogs, but they were good. And the kids loved the little corn dog nuggets.

I'm so glad you are enjoying my updates! These are not pictures I have taken, though. I always get them from Google images. I just make sure not to use any pics that have a copyright on them.

The beignets are WONDERFUL! :lovestruc I had them for breakfast almost everyday on our honeymoon!

Thank you! :) I am looking forward to extra park time. I think you would love T-Rex! It's one of our favorites!

I feel really good about our decision. We will probably go back to the DDP our next trip, but it's just not right for this one!

Thank you! :) We ate at T-Rex on our last trip too, so there will be an update about that in my TR!

Great plans! :thumbsup2 I like how flexible the QSDP can be, especially if you only want a few ADR's. I'll have to actually try it one day!

I love Casey's Corner! It's a classic. And Pecos Bill's fixin's bar is my fave. :)

I wouldn't mind trying the QSDP someday too!

I am excited to try those CS places. I hope that we can try both of them, because I'm not sure if I could decide on one!

Beignets and Karamell Kuche are some of my favorite WDW snacks! :lovestruc I can't wait!

You're right, I love that T-Rex and Sci Fi are affordable! Plus, the atmostphere in both is great!

John and I both love Tokyo Dining! We're big sushi fans though, if it's made right!

I am looking forward to trying some CS in WS!

I am so excited about GF Cafe! I can't wait for Full House moments and mimosas! That sounds like a TR chapter title! :lmao:

:welcome: I am so glad you are enjoying my TR! That is so cool that you were there in December and going back this summer too!

What branch of the military is your DBF? I love meeting other military couples!

Thank you! I am really happy with our decision! :)

Sci Fi's atmosphere is so great! :goodvibes

Okay, here's the thing about me waiting for a Disney trip: I tend to do A LOT of shopping. I am already what some may call a compulsive shopper, so planning for something like an exciting trip to Disney makes me even worse! :rotfl:

So, without further ado, I'm going to share with you my newest purchases! None of these are my actual pictures, but everything I got looks the exact same. I just got the pictures from Google Images to save time!

I really wanted to have some comfortable new flip flops for the trip, so the first thing I bought was some Nikes with some really nice squishy bottoms.

newptr19.jpg

They feel great, and I love the colors! Purple is my favorite color, so I'm really excited to wear them!

Next I did some shopping at OldNavy.com I love Old Navy, and I usually have a lot of luck when I buy things online because I wear the same size pretty consistently.

I got two new pairs of shorts. One pair is a very thin material that I plan to wear as a bathing suit cover up. The other is a khaki pair with a really comfy elastic waistband. I think they are going to be great park shorts!

newptr20.jpg

newptr21.jpg

After picking out the shorts I decided it was time to bite the bullet and buy a new bathing suit. I hate shopping for bathing suits, but I haven't gotten a new one in a few years and all of mine are getting a little old. Here's what I picked:

newptr23.jpg

newptr22.jpg

I love that shade of purple! I am really looking forward to soaking up some Florida sunshine by the POR pool in my new swimsuit!

I bought one more thing from Old Navy that I think I will wear on our first night at Disney when we go to DTD. I love soft summer dresses, and I thought the pattern on this one was gorgeous!

newptr24.jpg

The last thing I bought (for now) was one more pair of flip flops. I have a nice brown pair now, but I really wanted a black pair too! I've heard lots of great things about Teva, so I decided to try their "mush" flip flops out. They're called mush because they're, well...mushy. I really like them and I think they will be very comfortable for the parks!

newptr25.jpg

Well, that's all for now. I will probably be doing some more shopping pretty soon. Last week I won an iPod and a set of fancy headphones on the radio, and since I already have an iPhone I decided to sell that stuff on Ebay. I am thinking about using the money I get from that to buy a new Disney Dooney & Bourke bag. What do you think?!

Up Next: I promise I will start posting our plans for the parks soon! :upsidedow
